Nokia's new 5165 phone is a worthy successor to the company's hallmark 5160i, one of today's most popular phones. Like its predecessor, the new Nokia is a lightweight personal phone with impressive talk and standby times that's loaded with classic, simple-to-learn features. Its changeable faceplates, 30 different ringers (and room for five downloadable tones), and an expansive world of accessories add up to a fun general-purpose phone. The addition of predictive T9 text input, wireless business cards, and e-mail capabilities make it a business communications tool as well. The 5165's dual-band/trimode operation ensures you'll be able to receive cellular service anywhere it's available. Like Nokia's other AT&T phones, this model does not support Web browsing.

Weighing in at 6.2 ounces (including battery), the highly portable 5165 measures 5.2 inches high, 1.85 inches wide, and 1.2 inches deep, not counting a stubby antenna that extends another 0.7 inches. Extremely rugged, it should stand up well to being thrown into bags and briefcases or occasionally dropped.

Four buttons handle most menu navigation: a hefty "Navi" key in the middle, up and down arrow buttons that control volume during calls, and a key marked "C" for "clear". Menu navigation is very intuitive. A tap of the Navi key brings up the first of a series of graphical menu items. Hit Navi again for additional menu options, or tap the up or down arrow keys to select a different menu. Top-level menu choices are a phone book, messages (SMS and voice-mail alerts), call log, settings (for calls, phone, and security), system, games (Memory, Snake, and Logic), clock, tones, and keypad lock. The brightly backlit display works well with the control keys to simplify finding and making choices. In text mode, the phone provides five 16-character lines.

The 5165 lets you choose from 30 preprogrammed ringer tones. You can also download an additional five from your service provider's Web site, if applicable. Although there's no internal vibration mode, an optional vibrating battery is available. You can store electronic business cards in your phone book. Any friend or associate can forward his or her name, number, and e-mail address to your phone, and you can automatically store the information with some deft menu navigation.

One caveat regarding faceplates: In theory, all 5100-series faceplates should work with this phone, but in practice, only Nokia-brand faceplates seem to work. The problem is the keypad, the thin rubber pad inside the phone on which the actual keys are mounted. We tried several different faceplate models (both Nokia-branded and after-market models) and found the 5165's original keypad will not accommodate non-Nokia faceplates.

The 5165 supports the usual array of call and messaging features. If the services are supported by your carrier, you can use this phone with caller ID, call waiting, call forwarding, and voice-mail alerts. A call history stores the last 10 numbers dialed, the 10 most recently received calls, and the last 10 missed calls. The phone supports two-way SMS text messaging, but isn't WAP- or Internet-enabled.

The 5165 offers four basic security features: an initial security code, a keypad lock, call-restriction modes, and a lock code that can activate or deactivate memory and menu options. The lock-code feature lets you store numbers in a secret unlocked location, allowing you to make calls even if the phone is locked.

The 5165's NiMH battery is rated to last up to 180 minutes of digital talk time and 200 hours of digital standby time. In our testing, we achieved 180 minutes of digital talk time and over 225 hours of digital standby time.

How We Tested Battery-Talk/Standby Time

When reading our reviews, you should view the test results of mobile-phone battery talk time and standby time as relative information only. Many variables, including carrier signal strength at your location, signal consistency (including incoming and outgoing calls), display and ringer settings, and battery-charging methods and history, will affect performance. When handset manufacturers and mobile-phone carriers list talk-time and standby-time ratings, they usually include disclaimers about variable performance and often refer to the times they publish as maximum times. Some quote expected battery-life ranges, and in this case you're probably safe to assume you'll experience at least the minimum rated range. Note that manufacturers of dual-mode digital and analog handsets publish battery-life rates for both digital and analog modes, as analog mode consumes much more power than digital mode.

Our Tests: We tested digital-mode talk and standby times with each phone. Prior to each test, we fully charged the phone's battery according to the manufacturer's directions. To test digital-phone talk time, we turned the phone on, established a digital-carrier signal, dialed a number in our test lab, and, when the call rang through, took the receiving phone's handset off the hook. When all went well, we simply recorded the time when the phone died. In a couple of cases, the phones lost the signal and dropped the calls. If we were right there and could redial, we did so immediately and continued running the test. Otherwise, we halted the test, recharged the battery, and restarted the test. Assuming consistent carrier-signal strength, this test should represent best-case talk time. It's worth noting the talk-time performance of several phones significantly exceeded the manufacturers' ratings.

To test digital-phone standby time, we turned the phone on, established a carrier signal, and left the phone in standby mode. We checked the phone every few hours (for what was often days on end) until the phone finally cut out. As no outgoing or incoming calls occurred during testing, and because the phone was not moved, this method should represent best-case standby time, again assuming consistent carrier-signal strength. ... Nice old-fashioned cell phone
It's a little unfair to compare this phone to the latest and greatest, since it's a very old model at this point.I wanted to say that I used this phone for several years without changing to a new phone or getting a new battery, despite the huge leaps in technology.Only this last year did I finally cave in to get a tri-band phone so I could use it on vacation in another country.That is because if you don't need the new-fangled bells and whistles, this phone is extremely durable (dropped innumerable times and kept on ticking) and very easy to use.You can lock the keys so that accidental presses don't dial a number when you least expect it.The navi key and other shortcut keys perform every function with the least amount of key presses possible and it's easy to remember.My new phone is the Motorola V300 and its menu system is much too complicated and cumbersome in comparison to my old Nokia, a result of trying to accomodate all the features in too evenhanded a manner.

this phone blows chunks

Design
The phone features a traditional clamshell design with a large 128 x 128 color display with 65,000 colors. Can be good but can be disappointing
The Virginmobile payment non-plan plan can be good for those who use a mobile phone infrequently, which I do.It could be terrible for those who use it most days. After getting used to the interface, this can be a likeable phone.If you happen to be where the signal is strong, clarity can be excellent.However, even well within the service area I have had weak signals and broken calls. That's not surprising in the building where I work.It is surprising in my apartment. The voice volume is low, even when set to level 5.It can be fine in quiet surroundings, but it's a struggle to hear in moderately noisy environments.
There are no roaming fees, because there is normally no connectivity outside Sprint's digital service area.According to the manual 911 calls can connect in the roaming areas. I have not tested this.
Battery life is disappointing.In standby the 1000mAH battery supplied is only good for about two days between charges.I bought the optional 1700mAH battery from Audiovox.It's twice as thick as the standard battery, and it extends standby to three days between charges.
The minimal features of this phone don't bother me, but deficient signal strength, volume, and battery life make me covet a real phone from another company.

That other review above about the "warning of the customer service" is ridiculous. Once I had my phone stolen and customer service helped me through it, were quick in replying to my order for a new phone, and even paid for the minutes the thief used! It's the best customer service I've seen for any company, hands down. This phone has great features, and cool ringtones. It's a great deal for it's price and it has cool color screen backgrounds. I would give this phone the best rating possible!

Pleased So Far...
This phone and Virgin Mobile as a whole are obviously targeting an age group other than my own. Quite frankly, I don't care. I dropped traditional land-based phone service in February, and went with AT&T CallVantage VOIP service instead...a tremendous savings, but when the power goes out, VOIP phone service goes as well. Also, with CallVantage as of this date, 911 calls do not provide the answering call center with your phone number and location automatically.

The Audiovox 8610 phone, coupled with Virgin Mobile, seemed like an inexpensive supplement to CallVantage, filling some very unpleasant gaps...and E911 service is provided. Features such as speed dial, caller ID, and even a speakerphone are included, and I'm extremely pleased with the voice quality. It's almost indistinguishable from a corded phone.

For the age bracket that this phone is marketed towards, there are also two games included, and several wallpaper designs. A ton of downloadable ringtones are available at the Virgin website, provided that you don't mind spending $2.00 to $2.50 apiece for them...want to hear the "Meow Mix" ad when a call comes in? It's available for download at the Virgin website, as are ringtones involving such oddities as bodily functions, none of which will be discussed in detail here.

Per minute pricing is high enough to keep me from ever using this phone other than when it is absolutely necessary (25 cents for the first 10 minutes each day, 10 cents per minute afterwards), but that's okay with me. Unexpected emergencies were the sole reason for making the purchase, and the added peace of mind that it brings more than makes up for the airtime that must be purchased from Virgin every 90 days to keep the service active...and I'm still saving money each month over traditional phone service.

I would recommend the Audiovox 8610 phone and Virgin Wireless to anyone who needs a cell phone for similar reasons.

Great Phone
This phone has great downloads and already has cool stuff on it when you buy it.it is very light and very very durable.the outside is sort of rubberized which helps you grip the phone better. this phone is also pretty small.it is a good deal. the camera is great and has good pictures in low light areas.

I think this phone is great. It has a great camera, color screen, speakerphone, and the list goes on and on. However, I'm not a big fan of T-Mobile due to their coverage (you might wan't to make sure the coverage is in your area). T-Mobile is not good for me because I do alot of travling. Hot on the heels on the ubiquitous 8260, Nokia has introduced the 3360, a fun, shapely phone with several new features, including picture messaging and changeable front and back faceplates.Truly, there aren't many other phones under $100 that can match the 3360's design, components, and overallvalue.

Here's the tale of the tape: the 3360 measures 4.4 by 1.9 by 0.8 inches, and it weighs 4 ounces. This means the phoneis slightly longer than a business card and weighs the same as today's ultracompact phones. It also has an internal antenna--whichpeople either love or hate--though we never had trouble with call reception. To us, everything about this phone isexecuted correctly; the keypad is well-spaced, it has salient features (even though it can't access theInternet wirelessly), and it's inconspicuous while in use.

Three buttons handle most of the menu navigation: a central oval-shaped key activates the main menu and lets you selectoptions as they appear; the roller-bar navigation key scrolls through menu options; and the "C" (clear) button jumps backa step and erases text-entry mistakes.

Menu choices are: Phone Book, Messages (SMS and voice-mail alerts), Call Log,Profiles (so you can choose how your phone behaves in different environments), Settings (for calls, phone, and security),Forwarding, Games, Calculator, Calendar, Composer (for DIY ring tones), and Keyguard Lock. With the backlit, five-linedisplay (three lines of text, two lines of icons and indicators), we found it easy to navigate through menus and make selections. Call logs maintain the last 10dialed numbers, 10 most recently received calls, and 10 missed calls. PIM functions includea clock, currency converter, calculator, calendar with room for 50 appointments and reminders, and a 250-entry phonebook.

But, as we said, the 3360 offers a couple of new features (at least for Nokia phones). We logged on to AT&T Wireless's site from our PC so we could download additionalring tones. The 3360 also has eight preset images you can e-mail to your friends--but in order to take advantage of it both people need to have a 3360 that supports picture messaging. You can also download additional images from AT&T Wireless' site, provided your service plan supports this action.

The front and back faceplates are separate, so you can have a two-tone phone if you desire.It was a minor challenge to remove the faceplate on the first try, but it was worth the effort. And while the phone's included gamesweren't enough to take us away from PlayStation 2, we enjoyed Space Impact (sort of Defender meets SpaceInvaders), one of the 3360's four new games. It also features Snake II, Bantumi, andPairs I.

The NiMH battery is rated for up to 160 minutes of digital talk time and 7.5 days of digital standby time. In ourtests, we got the phone to hold a call for just about three hours, and it lasted for a full seven days in standby mode.

We highly recommend the 3360, and we don't want to give our sample phone back. It looks different from the rest of the herd and has the features we want and need on a daily basis--all for under $100.

Phone very unreliable
Phone has excellent features but has bad reception.Just after a month (right after the store exchange policy expired) the charger is not working.Some loose connection may be. I read somewhere else that others are having similar issues. It is frustating to have your cellphone breakdown because of the charger issue.How can I recommend this to anyone with this kind of issues ?

Unreliable PDA phone
I am now on my THIRD Treo 600.The first two were replaced because the phone would turn itself off and back on again, go out of service when calls were being made or received, and losing my programmed data.My third treo is only a week old and is dropping calls constantly.I have been happy with the phone when it works, but, reliability is a serious problem.Verizon Wireless has been no help either other than in replacing the phone under warranty which takes no less than 2 hours of my time and two days to ship.Battery life is less than expected and I'm usually recharging the phone by late afternoon.Another annoying feature is the low battery warning that must be cleared from the screen if you're trying to dial in codes to check voice mail or other dtmf services.It will interrupt you every 10 seconds.Also, the person on the other end can hear your low battery tones, voice mail notifications, etc.Annoying.

Better than I thought it would be
I got my Treo 600 (on Sprint) from my work. I always preferred the flip phones to these lareg PDA phones so my first thought was, "Well I can't complain... it's free". However the more I used the phone the more and more I found it to be a really good little device.

First off it might be large, but it's actually a good deal thinner than most phones I've used. Thinking the large size would be a problem in my pocket I first tried the phone on one of those horizontal belt clips. Kept the phone out of my pocket, but the clip itself was rather bulky so I took a chance at just pocketing the phone. The slim design fit better in my pocket than any of the cell phones I've used before, which actually surprised me. It fits in my hand rather well too.

The keypad took a little getting used to... like maybe a day or two. Once you get a feel for the little keys everything actually makes sense in the design. Also the large screen it touch sensitive to so technically you don't even need to use the keypad unless you are writing in contacts or something. The navigational buttons along with the hot buttons make it easy to get to contacts on the phone, emails, the camera functions, and more.

As a phone it's neither better nor worse for me than any of the better cell phones I previously used. I live in Houston and only a few occasions have I not gotten a signal. I suppose the speaker could be a bit more powerful, but I can see some tradeoffs here for the sake of the design. The speakerphone function has become really usefull in the car or when I need my hands free. Battery life seems pretty good. I only need to charge the phone maybe once a week with regular use.

I don't have too much use for the PDA functions aside from getting work email. I have found that a game of solitaire does kill the time when having to wait around for stuff like getting an oil change and what have you. I have found some uses for basic things like the calculator and calender, but aside from that most of the extra function stay unused.

I have made good use of the vga camera though. I never expected high quality megapixel images so the image quality actually was better than I thought it would be. I wouldn't make photo prints out of the pictures I take from this thing, but for email and such it's fine. The camera has been extra useful during those moments you wish you had a camera for since I always carry my phone around. The amount of memory on the phone is enough to store over 400 snapshots. That's pretty cool.

You can surf the web on this thing, however I wouldn't recommend it. The connectivity is rather slow and takes me back to the old 14Kbps modem days. Still it's better than nothing if you need to get a quick map/directions or movie times. The email on the other hand is fast. The phone connects to the company Exchange server so maybe that has something to do with it.

The phone is pretty sturdy. More than once the phone fell five feet onto the concrete and didn't so much as flinch on the inside. The chrome looking parts on the outside however are prone to scratching. Looks like even having keys in the same pocket as an unprotected Treo can leave minor scratches over a period of time.

I don't know what else to say. When I first got the phone I didn't think I would like it. An hour later I find that I really like it. Lots of functionality in a slim package.

Very Poor Signal Strength
The Treo 650 I bought is ALWAYS two to three bars below other phones (at the same location) in signal strength. Sprint has been totally unhelpful in this regard saying they can find nothing wrong with the unit.

I would reccommend against the Treo 650 unless one is sure, very sure, they will never be in any but the strongest signal areas.

Sprint support has been a joke, except that I am not laughing.

The most perfect smart device I have ever used!!!
The New-Age Treo's are the best smart devices ever made! I have used the T-Mobile Sidekick, the AT&T Motorola MPX, a Nextel Blackberry, a Samsung i600, and even an older style Treo in the form of the Treo 300. And out of every smart device I have ever used, the Treo 600 and 650 are 1000 times better then any of them!

1# The Treo's have large color screens with full keyboards, but are still small enough to fit in your pocket.
2# The battery life is insanely long! Both of the new Treo's claim four to five hours talk time, I have found even longer. I often lay in my bed at night surfing the web for hours and hours, and by the time I am ready to go to sleep, my Treo 600 and 650 still have enough battery life to go a few more rounds.
3# Because the Treo's are so popular the prices for accessories, software, add-on's, ect are Much cheaper then those for the other types of smart devices on the market. There is even talk by Palmone to start using Linux as the Palmsource software core, so there will be even more software available. And because Linux is open source, the phones will eventually be cheaper then those running the Microsoft Pocket PC. With the added bonus of the dependability of Linux!
4# Because the Treo's are of the Candy-Bar style design, they are much easier to talk on. Because there is no flip, or antenna to fumble with.
5# There is a software lancher called "ZLauncher" which has many features for your Treo's software interface. One of which allows you to see the exact level of signal strength. By using this tool you can so how much better the Treo's antenna and related components work, compared to any other phone on the market. I get a great signal with Sprint, but with Sprint and my Treo, my service is even better! I get signals with my Treo in places where my Sanyo and LG did not. In fact, I get better signal strength with my Treo, then my friends get with their phones!
6# Palmone has a patent on a new design of smart device that they are working to bring to the market. A design nothing like the designs currently available. A PDA phone that will be thinner and still able to have a large full color screen and keyboard. SO the next generation of Treo's will be even better!

The only downfall to the Palmone Treo's today, is price. That is because they are still new to the PDA phone market. Once they start making more and more phones, the prices will come down. And once they restructure their PDA manufacturing and company purpose in general, the prices will come down. I don't normally write reviews on phones, because I used to be a Die-Hard Motorola phone fan, and I guess still am. But if Palmone keeps making phones this perfect, then I will only buy their phones for the rest of my life! I can not say enough good things about these phones! 2 Cute!!
I have had this phone for about 6 weeks now and I think it's great! The only thing I don't like is that you have to actually flip the phone open to see who's calling. It's small enough to fit in your pocket and you don't even know it's there! This is a nice lil' phone if you are looking for the basics.

Good Phone, Worst Company Around
Let me first state that I do not work for any mobile provider and have used them all. Sprint is about the worst company on the face of the planet. Do not under any circumstances support this company in any way. I've reported them to the BBB for their shady practices.
They constantly "lose" payments and when they decide to penalize you its in the middle of the month. They just turn your service off! No warnings, no emails, SMS to your phone or calls. You just try to make a call and it puts you through to 611 collections. I originally purchased a phone from sprint for their DATA service and wanted a voice account as well. The sales person didn't think twice of taking my money and then telling me that they couldn't suport that on my account. Whats worse is they tried to penalize me for early termination!! (They even have a published policy about letting you try their service for 30 days.) When I tried toreturn the devices they refused to take them back! (After 2 days)
I had to spend a week calling them and forcing my way up the chain to talk to anyone that knew anything. It took reporting them to the BBB and writing letters to the PUC to get them to not charge me the $200 early term fee.
Sprint is by FAR the worst company out there and the PUC/FCC should shut them down for illegal business practices! Please learn from my mistakes! Go to another provider.

Good phone, bad service.
I've had this phone for about four months now and I have mixed thoughts about it. Often times when I'm talking, it'll automatically lose signal which is pretty annoying. Also, my phone seems to be roaming in places where other cell-phones that use the Sprint service don't. I actually compared it with other Sprint phones that my friends have and those ones get service easily but it takes a while for mine to find service, and when it does, it's usually roaming. My second biggest problem is that the phone gets hot extremely quickly. Usually after 5 minutes of talking, you can feel it getting warm and that really bothersome and also unsafe. As many others before me have mentioned, the lack of caller-ID on the exterior of the cell-phone is a negative especially when you are at school or at work and someone calls you, it would have been a lot easier to see who it was that called. The number pad is awesome, easy to text message but what good is that when half the time, the message wouldn't get send because there is no service? The battery life is also pretty crappy, I have to charge it every night and I don't talk on it that much so I expected it to last longer than it does right now. The games are all demos but I don't really care, it's not an important feature to me. I've dropped this phone several times (by accident, mind you) and it's still as good as new. I like the simplicity of it, the size is also very nice. I can't even feel it in my pocket when I carry it around. The color screen is very good. The alarm clock is very useful, and the voice dialing feature is awesome and I use it all the time. This Samsung phone itself is pretty nice, but the Sprint service that comes along with it is not. Best phone I've ever used!
I have been using V66 for 2 years. It has been the best phone I have ever had.Although I have just received a new V188 I am still using V66.I have not had any problems with this phone. It is small for pocket and easy to operate. It also has a nice loud tone which is a bliss in crowded areas.

Outstanding workhorse
I have owned this phone for over 2 years. It has taken every kind of abuse I can imagine, including being dropped and kicked 30 yards down a concrete Chicago subway platform. This is not a fragile cell phone.

I have large fingers, and have never had a problem with the size of the dialpad. I have never mistakenly dialed a wrong number. I have never jumped out of a menu by hitting the wrong button.

This is not the phone to own for bells and whistles. If you primarily use your cell phone to talk, this is an excellent choice. I charge my phone perhaps every 4 days and have never had to replace the battery.

I have consistently been surprised by the resilience of this phone and would not hesitate to recommend it to someone looking for a solid, single-use cell phone.

worst phone ever - almost
This phone is almost the worst phone I have ever owned.It _is_ small,and thats its only saving grace.The simcard cover pops off regularly on both phones ive had, the hinge is flimsy and has already caused me to replace the phone once.The mic stopped working after 8 months, and reception was horrible when i used the phone open, so I had to start using it with the earpiece exclusively.That broke after another month, forcing me to get a complete replacement.Battery life headed south starting around the six month mark.

This review has nothing to do with this phone. I am very unhappy about their service.
1. You have to pre pay for a month of service and they are rude enough to refuse to prorate you last month service. You are definitely going to be ripped off on average of half month of your service fee. (about $45 for me, could be more)
2. Their coverage is bad. Constantly drop signals. I came to a sprint shop, they said I need to upgrade my software. After that things are not improving ...

Ups and downs, overall great economical PDA/cell
The keyboard format is awesome, because I can't stand graffiti.My cover has never broken, but I would advise anyone to purchase a case for this phone.The battery isn't easily replaced, but a little googling and you'll find websites that sell replacement batteries for $25 and include instructions for installation.It's not rocket science, trust me.Otherwise, some people get their undies in a twist over the lack of voice-dialing, but I don't mind.I just use the shortcut keys for the speed dial option.It's not a great driving phone.If you're a commuter cell-phone chatterbox, this is not your phone.If you're a professional or a student with PDA experience, a little patience, and a budget, this would be perfect for you.Don't buy it new...MAJOR RIPOFF.Get it used here or on ebay.

It is a prototype not a real consumer product
This phone is a great concept but a terrible implementation. I've owned this phone since it first came out. First, the cover breaks so easily that I had it replaced three times before my insurance provider canceld my insurance. I'll qualify this with saying that I'm an above avarage careful person and have never broken a phone before. The cover is a well documnetd issue in other reviews but this is only the least of my dislikes. For instance, the battery is built in and after a couple of months of use the average battery life goes down to about 20 minutes of talk... I do not believe that this phone is allowed to be sold as a $450 real phone and not a prototype?
I hope the Treo 600 has gone through some phenominal improvements to rise up to an acceptable level.
I've owned a Keyocera 6500 5 years ago and I loved the intelligence and careful thoughts that were put into that thing so early on in the PDA evolution days. If I have to guess, their newer PDA phones must be way better, although I have not owned it myself. I've also heard that the Samsung i500 is a hot product.

About the Nokia 6800

The Nokia 6800 is simply a phone made for text input. The basic looking phone hides a full QWERTY keyboard (though obviously with smaller keys than you're used to) under the numeric keypad. Just flip it up and turn the device 90¼ to use the keyboard. Its unique design is only featured on the 6800 series and offers the largest full keyboard of any consumer level mobile phone in the US. The only problem with the keyboard is that because it's quite wide, it's hard to handle with one hand. If you want to jot a text message while walking, you'll have better luck by using predictive text on the numerical keypad. While sitting down, or stationary, the keyboard is very hard to beat.

It's hard to beat the Nokia 6800 keyboard's ease of use.

Besides the hidden keyboard, features of the Nokia 6800 include:

Even though the Nokia 6800 is made for text, it does a great job at voice. Call quality is excellent and dropped calls should be few and far between. It has the standard Nokia series 40 operating system that should be familiar to users of past Nokia models. A joystick in the middle below the screen serves as the main navigation tool. When the keyboard is flipped out it makes using the joystick slightly awkward, since it's to the side of the screen.

The Nokia 6800 ties in very easily with your existing email account and it even supports IMAP which is email technology that keeps email in sync across multiple devices (your phone and computer for instance). It doesn't have fully push email like a BlackBerry, but you can set email to be automatically checked at short intervals. Text and data plans from T-Mobile USA are some of the most affordable in the industry, which is a good thing since you will find yourself using these services a lot.

Great tiny phone; just one problem.
This is a tiny phone; it fits in a pocket very well. The sound quality is great, and people can hear me well. The "Shorty" is a great little phone (with the exception of the screen--it's difficult to read the time of day display). I particularly like the loudspeaker feature, which enables me to put the phone down next to me while driving and hear and be heard well.It's easy to navigate through all the features, although it might be more difficult for someone with bigger fingers; I use my thumbnail to push the buttons.Easy to find out my balance, too.I just use the phone for making and receiving calls and not for the downloadable features and games, so I haven't tried all those.The existing ringtones are I suspect aimed at a younger crowd--they sound kind of hip hop.They also sound kind of tinny.But, as I said, I'm using it mainly for a low-use phone; so this didn't discourage me.

What did discourage me was the one little problem:My particular phone has a little problem of powering off on its own without warning every few days--even with a full battery charge. So I'm walking around with a phone that is not on thinking I can receive emergency calls when actually I can't, because it has spontaneously turned itself off. Nothing I do gets it to turn back on.It is just dead. I figured out I just remove the battery and put it back in (which the trouble shooting page on the nokiausa website confirmed), and this enables me to turn it back on. I find this unacceptable in a phone and am returning it. Virgin Mobile customer service was kind and polite and offered to give me a new "Shorty," but I declined, because I found the minutes disappearing too fast with the Virgin Mobile prepaid plan.I believe, because they start counting off your time the second you push send when you make a call.So, you are paying for the 15 or 20 seconds it takes your party's voice mail to connect AND the message you leave on his or her voicemail.This adds up.Had I not been unimpressed with the Virgin Mobile plan, I probably would have taken them up on the replacement offer, because I really like the phone.

This super compact phone is great!, It is not a sophisticated model, great for people who needs just a phone. Lousy performance
The problem with Virgin phones is they use the Sprint network.It's highly unusual that I don't get a dropped call or someone complaining that I'm cutting out real bad.I work very close to the Sprint campus and tower.I can't even stand outside in the parking lot and call across the street without the other person saying I'm cutting out.Don't be a sucker--choose a better phone.

I mean blue and black and red and pink are my favorite colors and it's a bargain to have the screening BLUE!! Before I sent it to him (Long distance relationsip), I was playing with it and it's SOOOOO cool. Currently, I have a Camera Virgin Mobile phone and i'd trade it for the one I gave him..hmm better check up on that!

The Kyocera K9 is being replaced by the K10 with a color screen and more features.This phone is a bargain price wise compared to the K10.You can send and receive text from other phones or email addresses.There are tons of downloadable stuff from the web site as well.Other features include a built in flashlight, jack for an ear piece and one of the games is get this, TETRIS!Anytime your curious about how money you have left on your account you can check your balance right on the phone.It takes about 5 seconds for the account information to be zapped back to you in a text message.You can also access your account on the web site.

Really really like my phone
I've had this phone for two years now and I really really like it.

So the ring tones are a little high pitched. Whatever. The important thing is that I get clear reception, light weight, and long battery life. It is easy to use - the buttons feel good to me and the menus are intuitive. The blue backlight is also really nice. Sometimes I use it as a flashlight in the dark!

The one issue I have had is that once in a while when I speed dial a number, it somehow changes who I'm calling to a different number. Not sure why or how that happens, but it is so infrequent its not a problem.

I don't need a camera phone or bluetooth, so this has been great phone for me. In fact, I have the option of upgrading to something new right now, and I'm reluctant to swap it out! :)

worth the money
I never did want to take my time to write a review for anything, but now after I read the comment by Mr. David H. about this phone, I just have to throw out some opinions as well.

This phone's setting and navigation system are quite simple to figure out. Here is how you can set or adjust the clock:
Menu --> Organizer --> Clock

Basically I don't have any problem with this phone, including its ringtones. The reason I give it only 3 stars out of 5 is that although its small size makes it look nice and easy to carry around, all the keys are placed too close to one another, which makes it a bit hard to punch a # while driving. Also, internet capability would be nice to have.

I recommend this phone to anyone who just wants a phone that works great, with a reasonable price, and doesn't care much for new technology, i.e. internet capability, bluetooth, and camera.

Good basic phone
I think that this phone works perfectly fine if your looking for a basic cell. I havent had any problems with it, and it has good reception as well as clear voices. If your looking for a basic phone, this phone is great.

What A Turd!
Dear Consumer,
Run for your very life.I am the bewildered owner of this crappy cell phone.This device is the modern equivalent of, well, (insert your favorite torcher device here.) The heinous organization and navigation of the phone book, and the various settings menus is enough to make your teary with insanity.Even the ring tones (when the phone actually rings that is) are horribly ear piercing.Friends call and the neighborhood dogs cower.You even have to set the clock on the phone, WTF?!(I know clock setting my sound like a crappy gripe, but it was impossible to figure out how to set the clock.) Oh yeah, and don't expect to make more than one call on a charge because two minutes into your second call you will be deafened by the chime that ends your call as the battery falls as dead as a bucket of fried chicken.

Cool toy
Okay, I'll admit, there are some significant shortcomings for this phone, ie, no 3rd party text messaging, 3rd party email, etc.
These things cost $30 to $50 to purchase.I got the SnapperMail download, they have a 30 day free trial.But be aware that once you decide to purchase it, you must purchase the Premiere edition or higher for it to work. Overall though, really cool phone. The PDA portion of it is very nice.
