Amazon.com Product Description

With video playback, gaming, multimedia messaging and a VGA camera with digital zoom, the Motorola V220 is an affordable and powerful way to get in on all the mobile fun. It's the perfect companion to AT&T wireless service. What's more, it's a quad-band phone with global coverage support.

Design
The phone features a sleek clamshell design with a large 128 x 128 color display with 65,000 colors. The outside cover of the handset sports a supplementary 96 x 32 blue monochrome display that can display time, call information, battery and signal strength, and more. The VGA camera lens is housed below this display. A stub antenna is placed on the top right side of the unit. Volume buttons are placed on the left side, as is a USB port for data connectivity. Most of the phone's features and on-screen menus are controlled by a five-way center button on the handset's control pad. There's a standard jack to accept universal hands-free headsets on the bottom of the handset, next to the phone's charging port.

Calling Features
The V220 allows you to assign pictures to your most common callers. It also supports polyphonic ringtones as well as MP3 ringers, allowing you to use portions of your favorite songs to alert you to incoming calls. A number of ringtones come preloaded on the phone and more ringtones can be downloaded from AT&T Wireless' mMode service. There's even an included application, MotoMixer, that enables you to mix your own ringtones.

Speed dialing, which allows you to call pre-programmed numbers with one button is built in, as is a vibrating alert. A built-in speakerphone makes it easy to talk without having the phone to your ear. Voice activated dialing makes calling your friends, family and associates as easy as saying their names.

Messaging, Internet and Tools
The V220 features support for ICQ, AOL and Yahoo! instant messaging applications (AT&T messaging charges apply). There's also a built-in web browser for mMode downloads and mobile web browsing. AT&T's mMode service lets you receive and send emails, read news headlines, get sports updates, download games and ringtones, and more. Traditional text messaging, as well as picture and sound messaging (MMS) are also supported by the phone. When used in combination with the phone's built-in camera, MMS opens up a whole new world of messaging fun. iTap text entry, which is a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit-- a plus for mobile email and text messaging users.

A number of handy software tools are bundled with the V220 including a voice memo recorder, a calculator with currency converter, a calendar and an alarm clock.

Imaging and Entertainment
The V220's USB connectivity can be used to transfer pictures, sounds and graphics to the phone's 1.8 MB memory from your PC. Screensavers, themes and wallpapers can be set to your tastes. The V220 is Java enabled, meaning it supports games and application downloads written on the Java platform. The phone ships with a single game, Bejeweled, and additional games are available via the mMode service. For extra gaming fun, the phone is haptics enabled, meaning the phone's vibrate system is activated by crashes or other events in games. The V220 also supports MPEG4 video playback. Load video clips from your PC or download them from a wireless web provider and enjoy video on the go.

The phone's built-in camera features VGA (640x480) resolution and a 4x digital zoom for getting great shots on the go.

Vital Statistics
The V220 weighs 3.76 ounces and measures 3.29 x 1.73 x .94 inches. Its lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 7.2 hours of digital talk time, and up to 380 hours of digital standby time. It runs on the 850/900/1800/1900 MHz GSM/GPRS frequencies. The phone comes with a one year limited warranty.

4-0 out of 5 stars read this!
this is some important information left out of previous reviews!

DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE UNLESS YOU ALREADY HAVE AN AT&T PLAN!!

if you do not already have an at&t plan you will not be able to activate this phone, as at&t is now part of cingular you will have to sign up for a cingular plan, thus having to buy a new phone.

but if you do already have an at&t plan, this is a great phone.well worth the asked price.

also, you can add multiple numbers to one name, just go to the phone book menu and set the "view by" option to "primary contact".

the screen could be bigger, but this is just a minor drawback, and the features are quite good for the asking price.menu is difficult to get used to, but once you do it isn't bad at all.

the only major drawback is not being able to switch to speakerphone when you are not already in the call.

4-0 out of 5 stars Motorola V220 GSM quadband
I had read the reviews of the other people here before I got the phone, but since it was a good deal I went ahead and got it.
I have to say that I am quite satisfied with it and do not plan to return it.

Good things about the phone:

-Small size, light weight
-displays clock on front screen
-cool menus, lots of options
-really nice ring tones
-port to hook up your phone directly to computer
-decent camera
-GREAT battery - lasts for 4,5 days with regular usage

Bad things

-screen is too small
-some keypads are too small so if u have big fingers too bad!
-cannot deny calls without flipping the phone open
-camera is not top quality

All in all I like the phone and for the price I paid it's fantastic!

2-0 out of 5 stars There's better phones out there
I got this phone after years of being with Nokias.I wanted a nice, cheap, flip camera phone.Only get this phone if you don't plan on using the camera functions or looking at the screen too often. In other words, if you're just looking for a basic phone, this one's for you.
Here's what I didn't like. The screen is very tiny and has a fuzzy, somewhat washed out appearance.Whatever is on the screen doesn't appear very crisp.Which means that whenever you take a picture, it won't show up very well on the screen.A major disappointment for me.There's room for the screen to be larger, but for some reason it isn't.
The volume is pretty low.At it's highest volume, I couldn't hear my phone in the next room over the TV, a problem I never had with Nokias.
The menu is somewhat limiting, I just felt the phone should do more. But the speakerphone was a plus, especially when you're on hold with customer support. And it is small and lightweight. But I couldn't get over the bad screen, which made the camera a waste, and the volume.I returned the phone to get the V400.It was a bit more money, but well worth it. The bright vivid screen made almost every picture look good. The volume is better, but still not as good as Nokia. But overall, the V400 is much better than the 220.

1-0 out of 5 stars Waste of money...
I recently upgraded my old Nokia to this phone because I wanted something a little higher end, ie flip design, camera, etc. I took it home that night and played with the camera and it was sub-par at best. The menu had an awkward "haze" over it. A bit washed over, in my opinion. Also that night, I was entering my phonebook names and each number has to have a separate entry. You can't combine multiple numbers for one person. Very irritating considering that no where in the booklet was this explained. Very poorly written as well. I was hoping that when I actually used the phone in normal, everyday life, I'd love it more. Fat chance. The volume level only goes to "7" and it is very, very, very low. I could barely hear my other party and vice versa. This gave me the opportunity to use the speakerphone, which (not that it really matters to me) must be activated after the call is made and is a mixed bag. It is quite loud, but can be spotty at times. I found myself fighting over which mode to find the best results with. Quite fustrating considering a paid almost 240 dollars for an "upgrade". Many other cons, but they're mostly quirks (USB port is useless without software that is much extra, tiny photo caller ID display, etc). I'm returning this today, so I suggest you do the same if you've made the same mistake that I have by buying this phone. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars cute, but fragile
I got this phone because it was the smallest available -- It fits into any pocket. I have never seen anyone else with it.
You have to use a lock code to keep the buttons from being pressed. The speaker on mine has a volume problem so I have to use the headset all the time - which drains the battery very fast. I like its features and the menus are easy to navigate, but the Calendar/Alarm program is terrible and I never use it. It's very cute but I am going to have to buy a new phone with a working speaker and a better locking system, this one is not convenient as a cell phone should be.

2-0 out of 5 stars Cute but not the best
Got this phone for $20, AT&T shipped within 2 days.
- mMode button on base keypad is HORRIBLE. I kept accidentally connecting to the Internet, which was not part of my plan. I got sneaky, went on AT&T's site, and found out how to configure my Internet settings. I set everything wrong. SO when I hit the button it cannot connect. Problem solved. But still a wasted button.
- took me a few days to figure out how to lock keypad. If not, I was calling everyone in my address book from my purse. Opps.
- battery life is very poor, after 2-3 hours talking need to recharge right away
- cannot find replacement battery
- buttons too small for text messaging regularly
- cute design--I've never seen anyone else who has one. Get lots of "cool phone" comments, if you're into that.
- fairly dependable reception. Only a few dead spots, spots that seem consistent with other people's phones.
- generally little interference, although does occur occasionally
- every once in awhile it will have a "reverb" effect, where everything you say is repeated so it sounds like there's 2 of you saying the same thing. Creapy.

I wouldn't get rid of your landline for this one, but it's a fun little phone. Of course, now mine's broken because I dropped it in a river. Oh well. Go figure. Add that to the list: not waterproof. :-)

2-0 out of 5 stars First time buyer, rethinks Motorola C333
I bought this phone a little over 7 months ago. I thought that the Motorola company was a respectable company to buy from so I invested in the C333. It's actually a little awkward using in the hand - the buttons are located too low. I almost feel like it's slipping out of my hand. I do though enjoy the lighted number keypad. Lately, I've been told that many people can't reach me. The phone doesn't ring so I don't know someone is calling me. I only find out after talking to the irate person in person. I don't know if this is a problem with my service provider or with the phone. But because no one else complains, I have to think that it's the phone. The battery lasts a few days for me, so that is not a problem as is the case with other reviewers of the C333. I think my next phone will be a Nokia.

3-0 out of 5 stars Does this phone use SIM card then I can change to another ?
Does this phone use sim card? If so, I can changed to another phone for just use the sim card?
Thank you for your reply.

1-0 out of 5 stars Torture.
I feel very strongly that my life would be better had I never purchased this phone. It drops nearly 50% of my calls. The reception is terrible and fuzzy. It makes making a simple phone call an horrible ordeal. The purpose of a cell phone is to make calls and this fails at that. But it has a flashlight.

4-0 out of 5 stars Every cell phone company has problems...
AT&T/Cingular:This poor phone is suffering from a rating that is based on some guy saying how he doesn't like AT&T. I've had issues with them too (even issues including identity theft that ended up costing me a lot of money), but I hear horror stories about all cell phone companies. One thing AT&T/Cingular does right is that they don't outsource their customer service (yet) so you can call and speak to someone who you can understand.

Phone: I've been using a 3620 for a while and have had some mixed reactions. Most people really like it, until they get upset when you sneak pictures of them. Visually it's getting to be a bit dated, it is neither small nor sleak. Performance wise, this phone does very well with signal, and I find that I can make/receive calls where other people cannot. There is a problem I have had with the battery and a friend has had the same issue with the 3650. If you set it down somewhat hard or slide your hand wrote across the battery the phone will shut off. In 14 months this has happened to me all of about 6 times during a conversation, and probably 200 times in my pocket. It's annoying to be expecting a call and realize your phone has been off for a few hours.

Recommendation: This is not a bad phone, but my recommendation is you click on the "motorola" section and get a RAZR V3 (they're only $99), they are very sleak, the camera image quality is better, more talk time, and most importantly, a firmly set battery. My brother has been using one for about 4 months and loves it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great and Powerfull Phone !!
I was using the older version the Nokia 3650 with the round keypad when I moved into my new home .. I was receiving marginal service. A friend of mine walked in with the 3620 and was able to use the phone with full bars al lover the house !! .. I switched to the 3650 and BAM !! perfect signal everywhere !! Great phone .. !!

5-0 out of 5 stars Nokia 3620 - Great Phone
I bought this Nokia 3620 about a week ago. Now, I know you are thinking "Well, hasn't had enough time to really see how this phone is going to work," and you are right.I don't know if this phone will stand the test of time, but I do know a few things.

1.This phone's camera is the best that I have seen.My mom just got a Samsung E316.She paid a lot more for her phone, and the picture isn't as good.

2.The phone's big screen makes it easy to read.

3.There are quite a few menu's, but each menu item has a picture, and a caption, so you are sure what each one is.All the menu's are easy to understand. If you are in the text messaging inbox you can see who wrote you the message in bold, and then a preview of the written message below.

I will say though that not everything about this phone is great. The reception of course will vary from service to service.I can't personaly say anything about Amazon or AT&T because I bought my phone at the Suncom store, and they are who I use for service.I will say though that the speakerphone isn't all the great (people often times say they can't understand me), but when I have it on the handset they can hear me just fine.I will also say that this phone is very technical. It requires a lot of patience to learn how to work, but if you have the time, the experience will be rewarding.

So when it comes down to it, buy this phone if you want a good quality phone, that takes good pictures, has good reception, but is difficult to use, and requires a lot of patience.

1-0 out of 5 stars Amazon is great.. phone is great, just say away from AT&T
WARNING: AT&T representatives ("Dawn: R361" and "Max: N360") themselves said during my troubleshooting (as detailed below) that I should NOT have bought through Amazon, and that they have received a barrage of complaints from Amazon buyers!I still really like Amazon, but they're integration with AT&T is non existent.People should not have to wait 2-3 days for service after they receive the phone.Buy the same phone on Amazon, but a different carrier.

2-0 out of 5 stars Nothing special
In my opinion the phone sucks. The camera is pretty decent quality not the best i might add, the menus are annoying and make every action you try and perform a prolonged task, and the voice dialing is non existant. The video recorder is definatly not worth the space on the phone because it is a puny 10 seconds long and has incredibly bad graphics to the point the thing your video taping isnon recognizable. The signal is ok in most places with the gsm from at&t (for once) but everything else isn't worth the money.the only time this phone is worth it is from a one day sale off the at&t website.......hoped this help! ... Amazon.com Product Description

With an ultra-high-resolution main display, a color outer display, a camera with flash and video capture capability, 6.5 MB of internal memory, and a speakerphone, the CDM-9900 is a powerful mobile companion. For those looking for high-end features, this Verizon phone delivers.

Design
The phone features a traditional clamshell design with a very large 240 x 320 color display with 260,000 colors. The rear of the flip-up cover houses a camera that can snap shots at 640 x 480 resolution, also known as VGA resolution. There's also a secondary color LCD display on the back of the cover that displays incoming call information, picture IDs, network signal strength and more. Most camera features and on-screen menus are controlled by a five-way center button on the handset's control pad. Meanwhile, the top left side of the unit houses an extendable antenna while a charging port is housed on the unit's bottom edge. A 2.5mm headset jack is also provided, as is a USB-compatible data port.

Calling Features
The 9900 has all the latest calling features folks have come to expect. The built-in speakerphone makes it easy to talk without having the phone to your ear. Voice activated dialing makes calling your friends, family and associates as easy as saying their names. There's also a built-in address book that can store up to 300 contacts for quick and easy management of phone numbers and email addresses. Perhaps most importantly for users in rural areas, the 9900 is a tri-mode phone, meaning it can operate on Verizon's digital networks, as well as analog networks that serve many outlying areas.

Messaging and Internet
The 9900 also covers all your messaging needs with support for sending and receiving text and picture messages. T9 text entry, which is a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit-- a plus for mobile email and text messaging users.

Getting on the Internet anywhere is easy with the 9900. Verizon's optional Mobile Web package allows you to read and send e-mails, exchange instant messages and view your favorite web content on your phone. You can check your e-mail, trade stocks online, compare prices while shopping, access flight information, get movie listings and find directions to the theater.

Verizon's Get It Now wireless download service is also fully compatible with the 9900. This pay-per-download service features application downloads, games and productivity tools. You can also personalize your handset with ringtone downloads and digital photo-sharing tools using the Get It Now service.

Imaging and Entertainment
Plenty of good times are built right into this handset. Its VGA camera makes it easier than ever to snap good pictures and share them with friends via picture messaging. The camera also supports video capture of clips up to 15 seconds in length. Polyphonic ringtones are included with the phone and there are plenty more to be had using Verizon's Get It Now service.

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice design, great battery life, but..........
I actually give this phone 2.6 stars, so I figured I would give it the benefit of the doubt and round it up to 3.It feels good and solid and has the right amount of weight without being bulky. The display screen is big and bright.During calls, the phone needs to be PRECISELY placed by the ear in order to hear the party on the other end.Major issue for me.Nice to have a speakerphone, but it must be held close like a walkie-talkie to hear, even in the quietest conditions. This sort of defeats the whole hands-free thing. With the exception of being all the way in the back of Walmart near the camping supplies, the black hole of cell phone reception, I always get at least 2 bars of signal. The menu functions are o.k. (at best) and can be a bit confusing; starting in one application and being directed to another. The battery life is excellent.I can go for almost 4 full days of consistent use before needing to charge the unit. The battery door is weak and flimsy, and prone to opening without meaning to, and the battery will likely pop out if the cover comes off. This model phone should have been designed with a battery pack that just fits the back of the phone without a cover, like most LG phones. To sum things up:

Pros:
1.Bright, crisp display
2.Excellent battery life
3.Good reception
4.Good solid feel
5.Speakerphone (see Cons as well)

Cons:
1.No Bluetooth
2.Requires precise ear placement
3.Menu confusing
4.Speakerphone sound quality
5.Battery door
6.Not a lot of accessories available
7.No PC connectivity or FTP without expensive Verizon
software.

I hoped this helped. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A decent phone by Nokia, but nothing special
This is a very good phone for anyone who is a Nokia fan or who doesn't want anything fancy. It will call people and receive calls. It has a color screen, downloadable ring tones and games, and has a decent audio quality. There is no camera or bluetooth or advanced organization tools. It is growing increasingly outdated and by a year from now hardly anybody will be using it anymore, but if you own this phone I wouldn't go running to throw it out just yet.It gets the job done, but isn't going to wow you in the process.

2-0 out of 5 stars Surprising ... Junk from Nokia?
After owning solid, reliable Nokia TDMA phones for several years, I migrated to AT&T GSM and accepted this as a "free" promotional phone.Unfortunately, "free" isn't cheap enough ...

Disadvantages:

- TERRIBLE audio quality!Severe echo, white noise, and frequent garbling.Just barely usable.
- Cheap, flimsy construction
- Awkward and error-prone keypad design
- Unreliable volume control - frequently defaults to high volume despite user setting
- And more ...
Nokia would have been better served to put their effort into higher quality audio, a sturdier case and better keypad, rather than focusing on useless features such as "polyphonic ring tones," wallpaper for the 1" square low-res screen, crude wireless web features, games, and the like.

There are better Nokia alternatives in GSM, but at steep prices, and you will be paying for other "vital" features like a crude camera, fold-out keyboards, etc.If you want a phone that is primarily designed to reliably MAKE AND RECEIVE PHONE CALLS (!!!), and not play games .. you are probably better served by traditional TDMA service and the more robust and simple Nokia TDMA phone offerings.

3-0 out of 5 stars A minor, but annoying, glitch:
I really liked this phone when I first got it.Of course, it was free and that helps, but I also liked its simple and straightforward interface.I didn't want a lot of useless gadgets and this is a pretty bare bones phone. It sounds good to me and has a long battery life.BUT, recently I've had a problem with my phone. After about three months I noticed the phone would fail to re-locate coverage after losing it.For example, in an elevator I lose coverage and that's fine. But, when I exit the elevator I must turn the phone off and then on again for it to re-establish a connection with the satellite or whatever. It can be a minor inconvenience unless you forget to check it or if you don't realize you've lost coverage.I find myself having to constantly check the screen. It's annoying. My girlfriend has the same phone and is having this problem too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best bang for the buck
I have owned this phone for a year now and absolutely love the sound (excellent reception) and build quality. The interface is quite user friendly and wonderful to look at...although it is sometimes hard to see in direct light. Plenty of downloadable apps and games for it, and just enough bells and whistles to keep me happy. Highly recommended.

3-0 out of 5 stars Boring
The phone actually works great and is easy to use.Lacks features compared to most phones today (no camera, no speaker, small screen, no bluetooth, strange look...)If you just want a reliable phone I would recommend this Nokia.Software is easy to use and it sounds very clear and loud.Basically, the phone bores me, other than that, it is fine. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Still going, but...
I'm hoping I can upgrade to a better phone.

+
After several Nokia bricks, I was happy to own a light clamshell-design phone. No more accidental dialing! Caller groups and assignable rings are very useful as well.

I like the silver exterior, the outside caller id screen, the color display and the outside light.I've accidentally dropped this phone several times with no noticeable problems afterwards, so it's sturdier than it looks.

=
Reception is not thrilling but I live in a hilly area which seems to have spotty reception for everyone.

-
Functional problems:First, the phone book takes forever to initialize, as others have noted. Second, the clock has to be set manually and it becomes more inaccurate as the battery slows down.I miss the way my old Nokias used to grab the correct time.
Aesthetic problems: The obnoxious ringtones that shipped with the phone were also a step down from the Nokia. (The pop songs available for download through T-Mobile aren't much better. It's truly sad when you have to search and download a ring that just sounds like a ring. )

4-0 out of 5 stars All right...
This phone isn't that bad. It's very small and sleek. East to download things on T-Zones. The cons of it is that sometimes when I close it, it turns off (I hate that!). And when you first turn it on, you have to wait about five minutes to get the phonebook and text messaging option to work. That sucks! But it's very durable; I dropped it a couple of times (it only got a few scratches, including a few very ugly holes on the cheap plastic outside window). And I also dropped it in a bathtub full of water, and after drying it off (I dropped it in the water about 6 months ago) it still worked(s). But overall, I like it.

5-0 out of 5 stars an amazingly light and reliable phone
One year completed without problems. I like its light weight. Easy to carry in pocket.....a robust phone..

the cons are its low range of features.....but its battery life, reception.....is great

5-0 out of 5 stars Great phone
I was surprised to see some bad reviews on this phone. I have NEVER had problems with the phone. I own the phone for almost 16 months now, no complaints. I dropped it several times and yet it was in perfect condition. Very light in weight and so sleek it fits in any of my tiny purses. Charges fast too.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good Phone
Overall I really like this phone. I've dropped it a million times but it keeps on working. Even worse, I've dropped it in the toilet twice! After two days of dry-out time (each time) I turned it on and it worked perfectly! I find that pretty unbelievable! I was shocked actually. And relieved. I thought for sure I'd have to buy another one. Unfortunately, in one of my droppings, the antenna broke off. T-mobile said they would fix it for $60! Instead, I went on E-bay and bought a replacement antenna, unscrewed the back and changed it myself.

I agree with some of the complaints:

*Screen is hard to see in bright sun

*phone book takes too long to "initialize" after you turn the phone on

*scrolling numbers across the screen is annoying

*reception can suck (though I think this is more a function of T-Mobile's coverage than of the phone itself. I think this is true because I've had other phones with TMo service and had the same problem)

*very juvenile selection of rings tones.

On the other hand:

*I like the"one-touch" txt msgsing -- just push the left key and you're ready to type-- bang!

*T9 feature (the default) for text messaging is great! For those who say it gives them the wrong word and then they have to go to Alpha Mode -- WRONG! If you finish a word and it isn't the one you want, BEFORE you put in a space, push the down key and it will begin giving you alernate choices. Example: if you want the word "food" it will actually give you the word "done" first -- which isn't what you want in this case. So simply push the down key and it will change to "food", push it again and it will change to "fond", push again and it will change to "dome", etc. When the word you were trying for comes up, just put in a space and keep typing the rest of your sentence.

*Another T9 tip: for contractions, such as "can't", type in c-a-n-then the number "1" key (which will give you a period) - then "t". As soon as you hit the last letter ("t") the period will magically change to an apostrophe. Neat!

*Still another tip: Sometimes you don't realize you've got a wrong word in your sentence til after you've finished. No worries! Just scroll back (with the left key) until the cursor is positioned just after the last letter of the word you want to change. Now push the "down" key to get all the other word options.

*But that's not all: For punctuation, hit the number "1" key. It will give you a period. Push the "down" key and you will get a comma, a dash, a question mark, and exclamation, an apostrophe, an @ sign, a colon, a semi-colon, a slash, and a number 1. You simply keep pushing the down key until what you want is displayed.

*Remember in T9 you can access numbers from all keys too. If you press the "a" key for instance but really want the number "2", just push the down key for options and keep pushing til the "2" displays.

*Here's a T9 feature I discovered by accident: If you're spelling something weird that is not in the phone's dictionary (and by the way you can add your own words to the dictionary), then type the first part of the word (let's say you want the name "Darrel" which isn't in the dictionary) -- simply type in the first part of the word "Dar", it will first display "Far", now push the down key multiple times until "Dar" appears. Now, push the # sign to get a space. Now push the Clear key to back up. Now type the balance of the word "rel" and you will have the complete word. It seems that putting a space after a word, then hitting the Clear key to move back, somehow locks what you just typed from changing anymore. Now only the new letters you add on will change when you push the down key. It's VERY fast once you've done it a few times and keeps you from having to go into Alpha Mode.

*I like the fact that the ringers are very loud. And so is the earpiece volume.

*Once person said that there is no way to send a person to voicemail without opening the phone, which is then of course, the same as answering it. WRONG! When your phone is ringing, push the button on the side -- it silences the ringer -- but the phone is still actually ringing and will continue to ring as long as it normally would, except now you can't hear it.. When that time elapses it will click over to voice-mail.

*This can be handy if you're in a place where you need time to look at the screen to see if you want to take the call but need to silence the ringer immediately. Even if you have silenced it by pushing the button, you still have as much time to decide to take the call as you would if you could still hear it. If you decide not to, it simply goes to voice-mail.

*Someone else said they needed a special headset to fit the phone -- but I bought one at a thrift store and it worked fine. And unlike another's complaint, it allows me to answer and talk on the phone without flipping the phone open. It's great.

*Another tip: Type up a little sticker on your computer that says "If found, please call (friend/spouse name) at (their phone number)." I have inadvertently left mine several times, and someone always calls my friend to say they have the phone. I made my daughter do this to her phone and one time I got a call from the Phoenix airport in the middle of the night telling me they found her phone.

*To keep names together in the phonebook, I put a common word in front. Example: for restuarants, I put "Eat." in front of each one, then their name (like "Eat.Outback Stkhse"). This keeps all the restaurants together as I scroll through my phone book (I don't really like having the extra keystroking to find them in a "group" -- I just like to have them right there with the rest of my numbers).

1-0 out of 5 stars Major pain in the you-know-where
Pros:
-Looks pretty.

Cons:
-UI lags behind button presses in every area.
-Reception sporadic, especially in cars.
-Camera is awful (even at highest resolution, images always look blurred and are sometimes unrecognizable).
-Bluetooth frequently causes phone to freeze up (must be restarted).

And most annoying of all...
-Causes interference with anything with a speaker from up to five feet away.I don't know if it's checking if I have voicemail or what, but almost anything within five or six feet that has a speaker chirps a little machine song every minute or so.I've never had this problem with a phone before and it drives me NUTS.

Either spend the extra money for the T637, or get a different phone entirely - just don't waste your time and patience on THIS.

4-0 out of 5 stars For ringers, can I still use
the muwap.com site they mentioned here a while ago?

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful
Sony's products are known for being very stylish, and this phone is no exception.Everything about it is organized, compact, and very very sleek. The menus are logical, however they take a little getting used to, but overall is very good. One thing that I like in particular is that you dont have to worry about random little things- for example if you're trying to store a number and get a call, it will handle the call, and once you hang up everything you were doing i the contact book will still be there and ready to go.Anyway, overall it is a great phone. The only problem I've experienced i the 5 months I've had it is that the joystick became slightly stuck in the past. It's not much of an issue, but somewhat annoying (although I've read that you can purchase a cheap replacement part if it's really an issue.)Overall, an excellent little piece of technology.

4-0 out of 5 stars Feature Packed Phone
The feature packed t616 cell phone from sony ericsson packs so many features into such a small place that you wonder how the makers did it. With bluetooth, camera, gprs, and other key features, the t616 makes your phone fully capable of doing everything you would want it to do besides making toast. My t616 works very well however sometimes I find it hard to view the screen when I am outside because the sunlight makes it difficult. THe bluetooth is sometimes hard to use but the phone overall works fantastic.

2-0 out of 5 stars Desperate to upgrade.
Just one thing to clarify.Unlike what the previous reviewer said. There is 1 button voice mail retrieval with AT&T wireless. If took me quite a while to figure out... and for the life of me i don't think i could find it again.Just ask a cs rep.

Positives.
-Nice Design, compact easy to carry.
-Pleasing looks.
-Attractive Display.
-Nice standby time.
-Sturdy design.Feels solid.

Negatives.
-Slow button response and sometimes no response.
-The end call button and back button are different buttons. So when ending a call and then starting a new one or using a different function, you have to press 2 different buttons to get to the main menu. With the slight delay in button response and sometimes the buttons don't click when you think they do, it means you have to be looking at the screen otherwise you'll end up in a completely wrong menu.No easy navigation simply by getting used to the feel or buttons.
-This leads into the next and most frustrating problem.Glare.The phone is impossible to see in any sort of overcast or bright situation. And in Seattle, overcast is every day of the year.I've put away my phone in disgust many times because i simply can not read who's calling or can't see who to call or what menu i'm on.Even if you're covering the phone with one hand it's very hard to read.
-This would be less stressful if it had a true speed dial. But the only 1 button speed dial is to voicemail. All other speed dials are 2 buttons. And speed is definately not the key word.Apon starting a speed dial... it takes almost 5 seconds to even start dialing.
-A typical calling situation would be something like this.Grab the phone press 2 buttons to unlock, 2 buttons to speed dial, wait 5 seconds for it to start dialing... wait a little more... look at my phone, cover my phone with other hand and look harder at my phone... realize I still haven't even dialed because one of the buttons didn't respond or it stored a random number before it locked, then get locked out again and start over.
-Photo quality is weak.Photos will look good on screen then look awful when sent.
-Not enough memory and slow storage. If you use the camera, you will constantly be deleting text messages, photos and sounds to make room. And when you do take a picture... it will take 10-15 seconds to take the next picture.
-Poor to average reception quality. It's nice to carry an internal antenna phone, but not to talk on one. Will commonly have 1 bar less than some other phones on same service.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nokia 6310i cell phone
I'm not sure if this Nokia 6310 is the correct designation as the write-up on it does addresss bluetooth and infra-red capabilities which I know the 6310i model does have. As the other reviewer points out, other than being a great work horse of a phone and good value for the price there's not much more to say. If your looking for a phone that's a party in your pocket, this isn't it. But if you want a phone that's reliable, takes voice commands, stores more numbers than you'll ever need, has great reception, and just does what a phone is supposed to do, this is it.

3-0 out of 5 stars A good phone, but very outdated
This is a solid phone all around. It doesn't have a color screen, it doesn't have a camera, it doesn't have wireless bluetooth technology or the hottest games around, but what it does do it does very well. It has very good audio quality and good singal strength. It is all around a great phone, but does little else but act as a great phone. For someone who doesn't need lots of fancy features and just wants to be able to make calls, this is a good deal. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars BestPhone
This NEC 525 is the best cell phone I have had in my life. I got good service. It also had a great camera that is better then my Nokia 3200 that I have now.

4-0 out of 5 stars CELL PHONE
I have had this phone for about a year and I treat my phone with a lot of care. I rarely drop it, (everyone drops it once in a while.) There a a lot of great qualities but there are some things that can get a little tough to deal with. There is barley any reception on these phones, many will have 4 or 5 bars on their other model phones, and mine will have two. The front LCD panel ( the front of the phone) never worked from the day i bought it, and my phone calls are dropped all the time. Randomly my phone will just turn off in the middle of a text message or dialing a phone call and turn back on about a minute later. And the phone doesn't hold a charge for very long. Some of the other reviews say that it is hard to navigate and you can't add a number after writing a text message without having the number in your hand because you can't get to it once you have written it. That is untrue I find it easy to navigate and you can find the phone numbers once you have written the text message. I write about 40 text messages a day, it is pretty easy, they just need to be shown how to do it. But I know a few others with my phone and they also like it but would rather have a different phone then what they paid for.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst Phone Ever
I hated this phone the minute I brought it home, but due to pure laziness I never exchanged it. I wish I had. I have had it for a year and it has been nothing but troublesome. Calls are constantly dropped, the menus are confusing to navigate and not at all user friendly, the camera only works in rooms with bright lighting, and even then are at a very poor quality. The ring tones all sound like polka music, and I have the WORSE coverage of anyone I know. I can be in a room with another AT&T user and they have full antenna, while I have no antenna at all. After only a year my phone has completely died, so now I have lost all of the numbers in my phonebook. DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE.

1-0 out of 5 stars This phone is the worst phone I have ever had!!!
Just get on attwireless.com and search for NEC 525 Dropped Calls and it says it all.

1-0 out of 5 stars MK
I did a lot research with phones, I was very exciting to get this one cause it seem very high-tech and it has things that I want. But once I receive I wasn't too impress with that. The phone has two LCD and it is qual-band which is nice. But I found it is easy add things such as phone number and picture but once you added then I had a hard time to find ways to delete the data that you put in. it is not as easist like adding. I wonder why?It only has one game that come with phone, there is one other game but that is just a demo. It will stop after you play for it while. Which it suck. The battley life did not last as long as I think. It is very hard to hear like you have to put it perfect position to your ear other wise it is very hard to hear. Don't even think you can hear while you are at shopping or at the gym. Cause I had a hard time. Sending text message it hard because there is not find function to help you search for the person that you want to send message from your phone book. You always has to be prepare with the phone number before you send a message. I found this very user-unfriendly and I have to return it within two days. My old phones seems much more easier to access that the new one. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great phone...
I have had this phone for about a year and a half with Cingular and I have been very pleased with this phone. While this phone is kind of old, it has stood the test of time. I have several friends who hove the recent color screen phones, but the often get dropped calls while this phone keeps its great reception. Hence, I am a little reluctant to upgrade from it unless I truly am sure my new phone will be better. Plus, there are not too many phones that rival the 6590's small size (Please do not complain about the small number keys, how else could they make such a small phone? Plus they are not even too small.)

PROS:
- Excellent reception
- Excellent battery life
- Small size (Big plus)
- Easy to use

Cons (Only a couple minor ones):
- Power button doesn't quite push in that well (It has nothing to do with the size of the button)
- Not too many advanced features (i.e. No bluetooth, no color screen, no camera). This phone was made before these technologies really caught on though. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

The BlackBerry 7100t is the first of its kind-- a fully-featured mobile phone that delivers the power of BlackBerry e-mail. This is one sweet little phone, loaded with all of the cool features you want, like integrated Bluetooth connectivity, speakerphone, and downloadable ringtones. Plus, surf the Web the way it was meant to be surfed with an ultra-large, high-resolution color screen.

Design
Design-wise, the 7100t is a departure from the form factor of previous BlackBerry models. This BlackBerry is far more phone-like, and RIM's engineers have managed to fit a QWERTY keyboard onto the handset's slim frame. Each button on the keypad shares two letters and the unit automatically determines which letter is the intended one based on what it predicts you are trying to spell. This unique predictive text technology, known as SureType, enables the 7100t's diminutive size. SureType also learns the words you use most often, further enhancing your typing speed.

The 7100t sports a large 240 x 260 pixels screen with 65,000 colors-- plenty of real estate to view your emails, web browser content, messaging sessions and attachments. The venerable BlackBerry jog dial is located on the right side of the unit for quick scrolling through menus and emails. A speakerphone is housed in the top portion of the rear of the handset, just above the removable battery door. There's also a standard 2.5mm headset jack that can be used with the included headset.

Calling Features
All the calling capabilities folks have come to expect in a wireless phone are present in the 7100t. As mentioned, the unit's speakerphone makes it easy to use the device handsfree, or if you prefer, use a wireless headset via the 7100t's built-in Bluetooth capability. A vibrating alert, speed dial, and a contacts list/address book that is limited only by the unit's 32 MB of internal memory, are also included. Any of the phone's 32 included polyphonic ringtones can be used to create caller-specific ringers so you can know who's calling without having to look at the handset. More ringtones are available from T-Mobile's t-zones mobile web service.

Messaging, Internet and Tools
While the 7100t is a different kind of BlackBerry, it still delivers the legendary BlackBerry email experience. With T-Mobile's BlackBerry service plans, you can receive emails instantaneously from up to 10 email accounts (personal and enterprise). With BlackBerry push technology, you don't need to retrieve your email. BlackBerry devices are designed to remain on and continuously connected to the wireless network, allowing you to be discreetly notified as new email arrives. Support is also built-in for viewing email attachments (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, WordPerfect, and PDF formats).

If your company has BlackBerry Enterprise Server installed, you can take advantage of the power of wireless calendar synchronization. Your calendar events are exchanged wirelessly and automatically so that your desktop calendar and BlackBerry device calendar are synchronized. All your Outlook meeting requests, changes, and updates are instantaneously synchronized instantaneously with your desktop. Make meeting requests, invite new attendees and more, all on your 7100t. 5-0 out of 5 stars I have used most PDA phones. The 7100t is the BEST
After being pretty happy with the Treo 600 I moved on to the Treo 650 with Cingular. Some of the issues I had with the 650 may have been related to Cingular but as a consumer who has the time or patience to sort through that.In general the 650 with Cingular was a total disaster. The phone had to be reset 2-3 times a day, bluetooth usage was hit or miss and I tried 3 different headsets.Worst of all, Palm just allows you to install whatever application you desire and does not manage any conflicts that may occur.Your first indication of a problem is the phone repeatedly recycling.

Now for the 7100t on T-Mobile.It's been nothing but goodness.Getting corporate e-mail configured on the phone was fool proof and having other e-mail accounts set up to sync with the phone was a breeze. The phone has NEVER frozen or reset.I have never had to reset the phone myself. The Treo manuals have an easy to access 'reset' button because it's such an issue for them. The keyboard requires a little bit of patience, but like a high tech car, if you want high performance and a good ride you have to take some time to learn.Yes, there are two letters on most of the keys and in the end that serves to provide a smaller device and also means you don't have to move your fingers around alot to type words. This becomes a nice benefit.I find I can type faster than I could with the Treo keyboard.

If you are used to a stylus, then it takes getting used to.The blackberry just does not use them and what that means is you can do almost everything with 1 hand.

A few words of advice to get productive with this phone:

1) download the user manual from the web site.it has lots of detail about the phone.be sure to read all the detail regarding how to use the keyboard.

2) don't be so concerned with 3rd party applications to put on the phone.this phone comes with most everything you need to be productive.i found with the Treo that I needed about $100 worth of accessory software to be productive and to make up for small software features that were not packaged with the phone.

3) learn the short cuts with the keyboard. you can scroll up and down by hitting 3 or 9 and can go to the top of a list or the bottom of a list by hitting 1 or 7.

5-0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable PDA...
I bought my 7100t several weeks ago because I was impressed with the size. I could easily use it as a phone and also have my contacts, calendar, Internet, and the huge bonus of email all with me at once. This little device has transformed my organizational capability and made my life a whole lot easier. I use the Internet for work purposes quite a bit and I have found typing easier than expected. No, you can't type like on a PC but the QWERTY keyboard is very serviceable and great for quick responses.
I have never loved a device before but when you experience the critical functionality that this unit provides it is easy to see why some call them CRACKBERRIES. This is one very cool device that has had a significant impact on my productivity. There is NOTHING like it on the market and the T-mobile service has been a pleasant surprise. This is a superb device. Highest recommendation.

5-0 out of 5 stars The NEW next best thing!
Being a Palm junkie, I was entirely ready to junk my PDA, cell phone, and Blackberry for a Treo 600 (the 650 wasn't out at that point). However, after using a Blackberry and appreciating the functionality, I decided to look into the 7100t before I jumped on the Treo...I'm glad I did.

The form of the 7100t is tops in the BB line (I have a colleague who has the 7100g...not the same), and, at the same time, has the power to handle all the necessary tasks of a busy executive. Although the keyboard, with its "SureType" technology takes some practice (not much), it is a little bit of heaven once you get it down.

A little more about the form...this is the first BB that actually has the shape and feel of a cell phone. The original BB I owned was not conducive to phone use, even though it was offered. The 7100t is just about the same size as the Treo, making the basis for comparison very good...and compare I did. The 2.1-inch, 240-by-260 color display is probably the best I've seen in this size a device, and beats the lower res Treo like a whipping post. A friend of mine bought a Treo 650 recently (after seeing my 7100t) and came to me boasting about the "better keyboard." When we put them side-by-side, he was almost embarrassed at the screen quality of his Treo vs. my 7100t.

I use my 7100t extensively for organization purposes (PDA)...calendar, address book, and task list daily. The 7100t interface is extremely friendly and syncs perfectly with Outlook on my office PC. And, although the 7100t has IM and web browsing options as standard features, I don't make use of them due to the lack speed and screen size (although in a pinch, you can engage the browser and Google whatever you like).

A bit about the keyboard and Suretype...RIM's literature indicates that to make the device more "phone-like," they opted for the 20-key hybrid keypad in which the keys are relatively small, flat, and close together. Most keys have two letters and a number on them, but are arranged in the familiar QWERTY format. I've got fairly large hands, and don't have much trouble with the keys. RIM's proprietary SureType is leaps and bounds ahead of most predictive text systems previously offered. Its database has incredible breadth and is actually quite adept at discerning the word one is typing. Honestly, it takes less than an hour to get used to the predictive nature of the typing interaction, and then you're off and running.

As to cell service and functionality, perhaps I'm the lucky one here. I have had none of the difficulties expressed by other reviewers relative to dropped calls or static reception. Frankly, the quality of this cell is better than the last two cell phones I've owned (Samsung and Moto).

Although I wasn't overly excited about having to switch to T-Mobile to get this phone, the service has been excellent (so far) and their plans accommodating. Beyond that, this device has been absolutely wonderful and it is a constant companion.

Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a beauty
Okay I have read the reviews here and am shocked by some. I have had this phone for a couple of months now and I havent had any of the problems that some people are reporting. The phone wokrs like a charm...the pda part works great....sending text and emails is a breeze once you get used to it and yes it is possible to type fast with the keyboard and I have big fingers I never miss a key...so dont be hesitant, if your looking for a good joining of a cellphone and a pda this is it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Unstable phone.... Drops calls and reboots
This is a good phone as far as features it provides as a PDA. BUT this has a biggest problem. It does not work well as a phone. It reboots itself while taking. Just like old Windows 98 machine 'blue screen' problem. Its really annoying when you are on a conference call or interview call and it takes another 5-10 mins to join back.
T-mobile customer care is now going to replace this phone with another refurbished phone.

Early Adopters Pick:March 2003One of the most-feature packed cell phones in the world, the P800 integrates a slick PDA, digital camera, MP3 player, and a MPEG-4 video player into an elegant package.

Sony Ericsson’s long-awaited smartphone is here and there’s no question that the P800 lives up to its pre-release hype. The body is a little clunky for using the phone features, but the bulk can be excused when you consider that the P800 integrates a tri-band GSM phone, Symbian-based PDA, digital camera, MP3 audio player, and MPEG-4 video player into one handheld unit—and does it very well.

At first glance, the P800 appears to have a small screen and few features besides dialing and viewing your call list. However, flip down the translucent blue plastic keypad and a full 40-by-61-millimeter screen with a loaded menu is revealed. The buttons on the flip-down keypad are tiny and difficult to fully depress so we recommend accessing the phone features from the touchscreen with the stylus. This makes dialing on the run more inconvenient, but the touchscreen functionality is much more polished and impressive. For those who prefer to only use the touchscreen, the flip is detachable. A trim panel included with the phone replaces the flip for a clean appearance. Accessing the your contacts is easily facilitated with the jog dial, keeping all your phone numbers quickly at hand.

The P800’s integrated digital camera is simple to use—just aim the CommuniCam at your subject and press the Cam button on the right side of the phone to release the shutter. Photos can be assigned to a contact in the phone book; doing so will enable picture caller id for incoming calls. Images can also be sent to friends’ email addresses or phones that are equipped to handle images. In our tests, e-mailing an image to our laptop was instantaneous. This smartphone’s 12 MB of internal memory can store about 100 photos at the best quality level (640 x 480) and double that for lesser quality photos. An additional 16 MB removable Memory Stick Duo ups the ante, providing additional storage space for more pictures, data, and applications. Max resolution on the CommuniCam is 0.3 megapixels, and it lacks a built-in flash. However, it’s great for taking spur of the moment shots or close up images. In comparing images taken with the P800 against those taken on competing camera phones, we found them to be a bit more grainy and with slightly less color saturation.

MP3s were easy to load onto the P800 and transfer speed was a few minutes per file—about what we’d expect. We tested the volume on an MP3 of Fred Eaglesmith’s Carmelita while driving on a noisy highway and found that this phone can really crank the tunes. The sound is pretty sharp when using the phone’s built-in speaker, but a little muddied when listening through the included headphones. A pre-loaded video clip showcases the wide range of motion and sound that the P800 can handle. We were impressed with the crispness of a child’s laugh and the boom of an announcer’s voice on a movie trailer. The fast movements in the video clip are easy to follow but, similar to the issue with photos, the picture lacks vivid color on the 12-bit display and is a bit fuzzy.

The PDA functions of the P800 are integrated very nicely. The P800 comes with a docking station to sync up information with a desktop computer, or you can use either the built-in IR or Bluetooth connection. Resting the phone in the docking station took a bit of practice, as the phone rocks back into position. There is a convenient notch to store the stylus in as well. The calendar, task list, and jotter are easy to populate using the excellent handwriting recognition tool, or a virtual keyboard as an alternative. We were able to write notes and schedule appointments pretty quickly with both. Installation of the included software suite was straightforward and successfully synched information between the phone and our laptop. The PC Suite software only works with Windows 2000, Me, and XP so Windows 98 users will want to wait for an update before purchasing this smartphone.

The P800 has a multi-functional browser that allows Internet access and supports e-mail and MMS. A button on the right side of the phone gets you right to the browser and while connection time is not swift it’s comparable to that of competing phones. There are four games included with the phone: Chess, Solitaire, Men In Black 2:Alien Pursuit, and Stunt Run. The first two are basically what you would expect, and the second two are pretty capable Java-based shooting and driving games. The large touchscreen lends itself very well to this application, and many more games & applications are available for download via the Internet. Additional P800 goodies include support for animated screensavers, 10 preloaded wallpaper images, and 16 rich polyphonic ring tones.

This phone is designed to appeal to the business set, but the ideal owner for this phone will be an early adopter with a craving for the latest elegant innovations in smartphones.

How We Tested Battery Talk/Standby Time

When reading our reviews, you should view the test results of mobile-phonebattery talk time and standby time as relative information only. Many variables, including carrier signal strength at your location, signal consistency(including incoming and outgoing calls), display and ringer settings, andbattery charging methods and history, will affect performance. When handsetmanufacturers and mobile phone carriers list talk-time and standby-time ratings, they usually include disclaimers about variable performance and often refer tothe times they publish as maximum times. Some quote expected battery liferanges, and in this case you're probably safe to assume you'll experience atleast the minimum rated range. Note that manufacturers of dual-mode digital andanalog handsets publish battery-life rates for both digital and analog modes, asanalog mode consumes much more power than digital mode.

Our Tests: We tested digital-mode talk and standby times with each phone.Prior to each test, we fully charged the phone's battery according to themanufacturer's directions. To test digital-phone talk time, we turned the phoneon, established a digital carrier signal, dialed a number in our test lab, and, when the call rang through, took the receiving phone's handset off the hook. When all went well, we didn't do anything else except record the time when thephone died. In a couple of cases, the phones lost the signal and dropped thecalls. If we were right there and could redial, we did so immediately andcontinued running the test. Otherwise, we halted the test, recharged thebattery, and started the test over. Assuming consistent carrier-signal strength, this test should represent best-case talk time. And it's worth noting thatseveral phones' talk-time performance significantly exceeded the manufacturers'ratings.

To test digital-phone standby time, we turned the phone on, established acarrier signal, and left the phone in standby mode. We checked the phone everyfew hours (for what was often days on end) until the phone finally cut out.Since no outgoing or incoming calls occurred during testing and because thephone was not moved, this method should represent best-case standby time, againassuming consistent carrier signal strength.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good phone, average PDA

I have had this phone for about a year and a half.I bought it because I didnt want to carry a phone and pda in my pocket. The phone is good, as good as any other phone. With a handsfree, the volume is excellent but without the handsfree, not so great.Reception wise, its good but not as good as most Nokia phones. I know a friend who lives in a remote area who has trouble with it but doesnt have trouble with the Nokia phones.

The best part about the phone is the ability to write on the screen - better than the Palm pilot series - i have got so used to writing on the phone that i can write almost at normal speed.I just use my fingernails to write in fact.

The cover of the phone is problematic - the buttons on the phone numbers are hard and not so easy to press.the cover rests on the sides of the phone by two little knobs that jut out - these have broken off twice - the cover then doesnt work because the buttons are no longer aligned with the touchscreen - i know a friend of mine had the same problem.

The camera is easy to use but Im not sure who wants to have a camera with this kind of resolution - its good for kicks and if your somewhere and absolutely have to capture something and dont have a regular camera handy. For the business user, cell phone companies should drop the camera from the phones.

The syncing with outlook is a major problem - when i synced it, all 2000 odd email addresses on my outlook loaded here - though i have bought extra storage, the phone takes about 5 minutes to load if its switched off and put on again.

I have not figured out the email and Im not sure I want to install it if the address book syncing is any indication - i would love to have a blackberry type facility with new emails coming into the gadget automatically but im worried that if i sync the emails, several thousand emails will land into the phone and jam the thing.

I enjoy the writing on the screen bit and the pda functions - i can have a huge address book and can dial or message out from the contacts folder.

the sms facility is wonderful - I can store over 5000 messages whereas with most regular cellphones, its about 30 or so.

Overall, if (a) you want to have a phone cum PDA; (b) are not interested in accessing email the way it works with blackberry; (c) want to write on the screen rather than use miniscule keypads; then this phone is worth it.I would rather however look at Sony Ericson's later offerings and see if they provide the blackberry facility.

4-0 out of 5 stars The phone is great but T-mobile service area is lacking
I have had this phone for roughly 1 year. I find the phone to be a very good phone and a average PDA. I enjoy many of the phone features such as bluetooth which works well with the jabba bt headset and outlook synchro. The ring associations with contacts I love and I also use it to retrieve smtp email. All of which work flawlessly if I am in a Tmobile area.

I highly recommend this phone or the upgraded P900

4-0 out of 5 stars What a phone!
It almost has it all. I like the cam, PDA, the browser, MP3 player with the unlimitted storage space thanks to the Duo Stick. When I finish palying with all the toys that this phone has, I simply download more fun things from the different vendors, like a video capturing software, TV remote control, unlimitted games, etc. The only 2 weaknesses in this phone are the price and the key pad, but it's detachable.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good mobile Phone
p800 is a good mobile phone, but service is poor.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good Phone...Poor Service
Since I travel to Europe often, I purchased this so I can swap SIM cards between countries. It works great in the UK, Iceland and Germany but T-Mobile's coverage in the Hampton Roads, VA is still in its infancy.I've also noted in other parts of the US that I travel, coverage is less than desirable. I think T-Mobile needs to spend more money on towers and less on advertisements.I'd have to give the phone 5 stars, and T-Mobile only one star. ... Read more

Instant messaging, MP3 ringtones, dual displays, USB connectivity and gaming support are all here-- a significant step up from entry level phones of the past. It's the perfect companion to AT&T Wireless service.

Design
The phone features a sleek clamshell design with a large 128 x 128 color display with 65,000 colors. The outside cover of the handset sports a supplementary 96 x 32 monochrome display that can display time, call information, battery and signal strength, and more. A stub antenna is placed on the top right side of the unit. Up and down buttons for volume control are placed on the left side. Most of the phone's features and on-screen menus are controlled by a five-way center button on the handset's control pad. A USB-capable data port is housed on the unit's top edge. There's a standard jack to accept universal hands-free headsets on the bottom of the handset, next to the phone's charging port. Face plates are available so you can create the look you're after on the phone's outer casing.

Calling Features
The V180 supports polyphonic ringtones as well as MP3 ringers, allowing you to use portions of your favorite songs to alert you to incoming calls. You can also assign pictures and ringers to your most common callers. A number of ringtones come preloaded on the phone and more ringtones can be downloaded from AT&T's mMode service.

The V180 has all the bases covered when it comes to messaging and Internet connectivity. The phone features support for ICQ, AOL and Yahoo! instant messaging applications (AT&T messaging charges apply). There's also a built-in web browser for mMode downloads and mobile web browsing. AT&T's mMode service lets you receive and send emails, read news headlines, get sports scores, download games and ringtones, and more. Traditional text messaging, as well as picture and sound messaging are also supported by the phone. iTap text entry, which is a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit-- a plus for mobile email and text messaging users.

A number of handy software tools are bundled with the V180 including a voice memo recorder, a calculator, a notepad, a calendar and an alarm clock.

Imaging and Entertainment
The V180's USB connectivity can be used to transfer pictures, sounds and graphics to the phone's memory from your PC. Screensavers, themes and wallpapers can be set to your tastes. 5-0 out of 5 stars I'm happy
This is my third cell phone and 3 weeks into using it I'd say it's the best one I've had.My main complaint about phones this size is that the number keys are too small, but I've not had a problem with this one.

The only thing that I would change is the manual (some of the instructions are a little on the brief side) and the address book (seems to sort by first name, and not last name).

Overall, a decent phone.

1-0 out of 5 stars Battery life claims are no where near true
I have 2 of these (and got one replaced). All 3 have HORRIBLE battery life.I have to recharge every day and a half, after only 20 mins of talk time in that day and a half, and the rest stand by.7 hours talk and 14 days standby is a huge lie.I could see recharging every 3 days with modest use, but this is pathetic.

If my batteries are bad and others are fine, it is weird since all 3 of mine are like that.

Be aware.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a great compact basic phone.
I got two V505 and one V180 from AT&T corporate store for free with family calling plan. So far, I am impressed with this little phone.

Pro:
-Good Battery life. It has lasted over 1 week under modest use.
-Speaker phone. It's pretty clear and loud.
-Size. It's compact, easy to hold and nice keypad.
-Quad band.
-Reception is pretty strong and clear.
-Mini USB port. I can use my Canon camara's cable to connect to PC using Motorola software.
-Price(Free or make money depends on contract)

Con:
-Screen could be better or bigger. But it's not too bad for a basic phone.
-No blue tooth
-Address book could be better.

Overall, this is a great phone if you are just looking for a good no frill phone.

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice Small One
This was one of my first phones and i loved it. It was small enough to put anywere and was so fun to play with. it had great ringtones and wallpapers on it plus i had sports updates to get all the latest game score it was an awsome feature. But the on thing i didnt like was that with no external antenna there was always a very weak signal indoors so you would very often loss you connection and miss calls while inside a building.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent phone. By far my favorite yet!
This is by far my favorite cell phone yet. I live in Cen. NY and have Cingular. I thought I had lost this phone and was very upset to see it was discontinued. If you're like me and don't want a flip-phone, this ones awsome...I also like the way the keypad lights up to the ring tones. I also subscribe to a weather forcasting svc w/ dopplar radar (on a phone) its great for boating or if away from tv during summer storms. The built in speaker is neat but limited to quite settings. Overall- Its Excellent!!!!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good phone and good service
I really like this phone. It's not the highest quality, but it's still a really good phone. Like all Nokias, you can throw it around and drop it a lot and it will still work. It has a good color screen, unless you are one of those stupid people who expect your cell phone to have a screen like your laptop. The buttons are really small, but I don't have a problem with them at all. Also I really like AT&T. So many people reviewing phones say they hate AT&T, the reception is bad, and they are on hold for an hour when calling customer service. I don't have ANY problems with the service. I would recommend this phone to anyone who wants a basic phone.

4-0 out of 5 stars AT&T GSM - Some dead spots with THIS phone!
I purchased the Nokia 3100 on May 29 and was happy with it as soon as i turned it on. I recently had a Nokia 1260 and i hated it. It did have really good service, though. The Nokia 3100 has a lot of good fetures. I perticulally like the speakerphone. I've never had a speakerphone, in my life but when i got this, i was amazed at how loud and sensitive it was to sound. The voice recorder is great for those moments when you want to record, say your baby laughing and have it as your ringtone.
I go camping and i usually go up to the mountains. When i went up there, in the Poconoes, i had to go all the way from my campsite and walk to the campstore and it still took about 10 minutes to get service. My friend has a Nokia 3595 and his got 1 bar of antenna at the campsite. i wasn't very happy.

The petite T720i fits in a pocket but still offers some big features, such as a large, color screen; GPRS data transfer that supports EMS, SMS Chat, and MMS; and downloadable games, graphics, and ring tones. Possibly the most exciting feature of the T720i, however, is the included digital camera attachment, which lets you take photos from the phone itself and wirelessly send picture messages.

This phone has a sleek metallic gray exterior and a delicate clamshell design that requires a little more care than Motorola’s more rugged phones, such as the V66. When the cover is closed, an external LCD screen conveniently displays the date, time, and caller ID, plus signal and battery strength. When the flip phone is opened, the stunning 4,096-color screen is revealed.

The 7- to 9-line screen is a large enough palette to take advantage of some of the phone’s key features, such as viewing photos, surfing the Web, or playing rich Java 2-powered games. (MotoGP is included, but more are downloadable from Motorola’s Web site.) A button centered just under the screen takes you to the main menu, which has an intuitive iconic interface. This button is flanked by two other navigational buttons and another round, multi-directional button below helps you navigate through the menu or get right into four different features from the main screen according to your preference. Buttons are well-spaced but the multi-directional joystick-like button was a little bit difficult to control, even for small fingers.

The T720i was one of the easiest phones to set preferences for that we’ve encountered. We programmed all of our buttons to go to the features we used the most and found it very handy. In addition, we customized the color of the main screen to pacific blue, a color choice that offered the best contrast, and set our screen saver to an EMS file of a devil. For our ring tone, we chose Deep Purple’s "Smoke on the Water," which, with the rich harmonies of polyphonic ringers, sounded almost like the original. The phone comes loaded with 50 different ring tones, so you can choose a more conservative ring or download additional choices.

The sound during calls was a little bit tinny but not overly so. Our tests of the voice-activated dialing proved excellent. We recorded the name of our contact with a child screaming in the background and the phone still detected the contact’s name later in a quiet room and dialed her number. The 720i holds up to 500 phone book entries, which is a large amount for the average caller. However, phone numbers and email addresses for one contact are stored as separate entries, filling up those 500 slots much more quickly. While a small letter icon designates which of your two entries is the email address, we still found it confusing.

We sent a text message from the 720i to a friend from our address book and got a quick response, confirming that data transfer was fast. Inputting the message was tedious, but the phone includes a handy list of 10 Quick Notes with common text phrases, such as "Where is the meeting?" and "I am late and will be there in __ minutes." You can even compose and save your own phrases to save time on keying them in.

The hot feature on this phone is its ability to take photos using the camera attachment. The picture-taking feature seems more fun than functional, but might be appealing for professionals such as home inspectors or insurance adjusters who need a cell phone and lightweight camera for their work. The camera snaps onto the bottom of the phone and has an 180-degree rotating lens to photograph everything from shoes to sky and store them as jpeg images in 640 x 480 resolution. It stores up to 48 pictures at a time, which you can then e-mail to friends or view on the T720i’s color screen as a photo album or slideshow. The only downside is that the digital camera shares memory with other digital applications on the phone, so storage space is limited.

Overall we think this is a great phone for early adopters who want all the most recent innovations in one phone—Web access, Java 2 games, MMS, and a digital camera. It’s great for business use but the hip features will likely appeal more to the social cell phone user. --Cristina Vaamonde

Pros:

  • Separate camera attachment for taking photos and sending picture messages
  • Fast GPRS data transfer
  • Java 2 for playing graphically enriched games
  • Easy to customize

Cons:

  • Phone number and Web address for one contact are separate entries in phone book
  • Camera attachment shares phone’s digital memory

1-0 out of 5 stars too bad there is no 0 stars...
I have just one advise: do not buy this piece of crap. You turn your head, and it loses the reception completely. You are in a supermarket, and it has no reception while people around are walking and talking on their phones. I don't know if this is a phone problem or AT&T service, but I quite often get a "Network Failure" error message 5 minutes into a conversation. I never had any of this with my TDMA phones.
Verdict: total crap.

2-0 out of 5 stars bad bad phone
I bought this phone because of my good experience with a previous Samsung phone (made in 2000). But it turned out that some things I liked about my old phone were removed from a new one. Plus the phone had glitches which required me to take out the battery and put it back to get the phone into the working condition. I later on needed to exchange the phone.
I should admit that the phone looks great.
Also note that the phone doesn't have an external display which prevents you from checking the time easily.

5-0 out of 5 stars Never experiened any problems at all.Great phone!
This phone is perfectly reliable and I have never had problems with any of my 426's (dropping them will probably cause damage--as if dropping your computer, your TV, or any other electronic device wouldn't. So my best advice is to not drop it). The audio and video quality is excellent and Samsung has great support. The only drawbacks are that it doesn't have a camera, nor does it have a speakerphone. The hands-free headset that Samsung makes is great, however, and the phones are meticulously customizable. These phones are great for handing out to family members (especially student) and co-workers alike. It isn't stuffed with tons of extra games and applications, but if you are looking for a good phone to make calls from rather than to plan your life with, this is a great buy.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT PHONE; SLEEK LOOKSAND SOLID RECEPTION
Dont believe the naysayers, this is a great little phone and is perfect for those who just need a solid, reliable phone without the frills... samsung easily makes the best-looking and best performing clamshells, and this phone blows away my previous nokias and motorolas. great looks and performance, lots of bang for the buck... reception up and down the east coast is solid, and is superior to other carriers i've experienced.yes, it doesnt have the external lcd, but it hardly matters.

1-0 out of 5 stars Pathetic phone, pathetic service
I would prefer to give this phone no stars. Today I am to receive a third replacement. I bought the original in March, 2004. Think of the worst voice quality you have ever heard, multiply it by 10, and you will have an idea of what to expect with this phone and AT&T service. Calls drop even when the signal strength is full, and don't be surprised if you have to constantly ask the voice at the other end to repeat him/herself. Since AT&T will soon merge with Cingular, (which will no doubt result in many layoffs) apathy runs rampant in their customer service ranks.

The early versions of this phone had defective firmware, which AT&T prefers you don't know about. Press *#9999# and make sure the version number is 1.6 or later. There are a few things to like about the phone. It is small, and the colour screen looks good, and it is easy to use. Connection to a computer via a data cable is easy, and the GPRS software can be downloaded for free from Samsung's website. Too bad it will not sync with MS Outlook. There is, however, nothing to like about the combination of this phone and AT&T's service. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars College student's review
For a free phone, this is about average. It's pretty small and is not flimsy.

Sound - good. I've never had a problem. It's always clear, and never too quiet. As far as the phones ringtone capabilities, they're sort of weak. They don't even have good ringtones available unless you're prepared to pay for the little program through get it now, AND the tone for $2.99

The response time to the keys being entered is insanely annoying. Also when you recieve a text and are currently writing one, you have to get out of it and go all theway back into your saved messages, and then you have to key over the entire length thus far to begin to write again. Bad text messaging phone for sure.

the background is tiny so don't be prepared to put anything cool on your wallpaper, you will hardly be able to tell what it is. surfing the web on this phone would be a pain.

OVERALL the phone, for basic functionality, is quite nice. If you are looking for something to play with though, get a phone with more capabilities. I've never had reception issues except where Verizon in general sucks for service.

I would recommend this phone to someone who doesn't talk much on one (batterly life = not good) but is looking for something to maybe call the wifey from at lunchtime. Like I said, it's pretty sturdy too, i've dropped mine quite a few times. If you are going in for a 2-year contract, probably spend the extra to get something that won't be outdated in a couple weeks.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great phone!
I got one of these for free with a one-year contract, and I must say it is a great phone. It does everything a phone should do. The voice quality is outstanding on both ends, and it has competent voice dialing and phone book capabilities. Verizon's coverage is pretty good too. My only complaint is that the screen is a bit dark, and you generally need the backlight to see it. Although it can function as a Web phone, the screen is a bit dinky for that. If all you want is a phone, and you don't care about gimmicky features, then this is a pretty good bet.

2-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Mediocre
When my brother signed up for service with Verizon Wireless they were running a BOGO free deal on phones. He got an expensive camera phone and I got stuck with the KX414.The phone isn't terrible but it would be much better with some improvements.

Although the screen is color, it is tiny and hard to read. The ear piece is also rather small and has to be directly on your ear to hear properly. I've had the phone for about six months and the blue "mask" that surrounds the screen is loose and ready to fall off. Many of the numbers on the key pad are fading color and chipping. It will probably need to be replaced.

When I have it on the vibrate setting I end up missing calls because the vibration is so weak. The ringers that come with the phone are annoying so if you plan on buying this phone prepare to spend extra money on ones you can tolerate. If you like games you'll also have to download and pay for them because they don't come with the phone.

I have to charge it every single night so that I don't lose power throughout the day.I do get pretty good service and it is rare that my call is dropped. That is really the only positive.

It is very obvious to me why this phone was free. If you're shopping for a new phone I would spend the extra fifty bucks and get something with a little higher quality. It will pay off in the long run.
