The 8200 sports a higher-resolution built-in camera. Picture quality is also improved. The old 8100's pictures often had streaks and distorted colors. The 8200's pictures look much better. The speakerphone is definitely a great addition for those of us who like to multi-task yet dislike headsets. The volume and clarity could be a little better, but given the compact size of this phone, it's not bad. Reception on the 8200 is great, thanks to its external antenna. Battery life is good, unless you save a lot of things in memory, which depletes battery faster the more stuff it holds. The phone is attractive and can be customized in many ways, not to mention it comes in three colors. To Sanyo, I suggest you use the iPod Mini color scheme, because not many people like big red! In summary, the 8200 delivers lots of improvements over the already-excellent 8100. If you have Sprint or plan to get Sprint, this is the phone. If you want video recording, check out the Toshiba phone for Sprint.
Beyond the reception, the phone is stacked with features. The camera is a nice one, and I like to take pictures of places I am at and share them with people not with me before I erase them. The quality is not of a digital camera, but for someone just using them for kicks like I do, its alright. The zoom on the camera is a little tricky, but another nice touch, as is the flash and the frames you can put around the pics. Another great feature is the speaker phone- it is way clearer than landline speakerphones that I have used, and is a great alternative to a clumsy headset. Also, the screens are tight, with brilliant color and clear resolution. Still, what happened to some free screen savers and games. Even the games on here are trials - you get interrupted in the middle with a clever reminder that the game must be purchased using Sprint online. I am surprised sometimes that you dont have to pay a fee to just open the phone sometimes. Another problem with the phone is the lack of accessories, partly due to its newness- I blew 30 beans on a Sprint leather case, but it can't hold a torch to the Bodyglove Ion or Cellsuit cases. Still with time this I am sure will be fixed. I got the phone with a lot of rebates and think the cost/benefit is phenomenal. Still, I dont know about the 280 price tag. Overall, though, this is a great phone, as far as Sprint phones go, that is.
While Sprint's total coverage area of america isn't as good as Verizon's, we're here to talk about phones rather than service (although i could argue for Sprint's superiority)... So after going Sprint, I saw this phone and saw the price. At first I thought I was seeing things, because a feature-equivalent Verizon Wireless phone would sell for easily one hundred more dollars. Well, after the initial shock, I did some research on this little phone, and after purchasing it, verified some things... Incredible battery life (advertised as 3.5 hours talk time, 12 DAYS standby); although I haven't tested these numbers, I've had this puppy on for a long time and have yet to go under two out of three bars of battery life! Compact and lightweight...It's a LITTLE smaller than most phones I've encountered, yet the buttons are not too close together at all for someone with big fingers, nor is the screen too small for people who cannot see well. Nice looking to boot! Definitely the nicest looking phone I've seen in a while (only one that maybe compares is the LG VX6000). It's sleek, and the blue looks really sharp both up close and far away. Now onto the best parts...The features! Ready link...Not that I use it, but it's great to have such a thing included if I ever decide to go ready link. Speakerphone! One of the nicest features about the phone, the speakerphone is VERY loud compared to other phones I have used, and as far as I've been told, I sound pretty decent from my end. Camera...Has a flash, zoom capabilities, the ability to send picture mail, link a photo to a caller ID (so you see the photo when a particular person calls), etc etc. It's got all the camera features you'll ever need! Quality of sound...I don't know what other reviewers are talking about, because whether I'm using my plantronics headset, using the speakerphone, or just talking normally, everyone sounds crystal clear! Very rarely will you get some distortion in the way the person sounds, but that may just be a result of the service and not the phone itself. In fact, I would say that is likely. Key layout...I couldn't rate this high enough! The speakerphone has a dedicated key, as does the camera. The buttons are all spaced out nicely and are big enough for those with big fingers. In terms of layout, this baby trumps all of the verizon phones I've ever used. Menu layout...Superb! Everything is easy to get to, and the most commonly used menu items (settings, downloads, messaging, and contacts) have one button shortcuts built into the phone! The menu itself is really nicely put together, with every setting put in the logical place (unlike many phones i've used, unfortunately). What complaints do I have about the phone? Sometimes the button on the side that's used to answer the phone is a little annoying. Why? Because if you just press it quickly, it'll mute the ring (which is a nice feature). But if you press it quickly, because you're not used to it yet, you'll be sitting there struggling to answer the phone. It's just something that needs some getting used to. I guess the only other thing I could possibly be disappointed about is that you can't have the date and your personalized 10ish-character greeting display on top of your custom background. You'll still see the time, battery life, service, etc, but not those two things. Why????? It should at least be an option to turn on/off. So..to summarize...It's the nicest/most reliable/most fun phone i've owned, scoring high in every category. Battery life A+, features A+, layout A+, aesthetics A+, sound quality A (would be a + if I could verify the distortion I SOMETIMES experience is a result of sprint, not the phone). Oh and one last thing: Unlike most phones you'll buy today, this one doesn't actually seem fragile; it has a very durable feel to it. To be cliched, go get this phone now!

This was the best phone I've had. I wish I didn't have to switch to the GPRS system, it's not nearly as efficient yet.
1. Awesome battery life - a color screen would be nice but the battery life is more important to me. Also shows up better in the sun than a color screen would. The cell phone sales people are trying HARD to sell those GSM phones but stay away from that for another year or two. I got a good deal on this phone as a longtime customer by threatening to leave and go to another provider if they didn't at least come close to the deals offered to new customers. Hey, and where do I find that Star Wars Imperial March for a US phone??? :-)

Amazon.com Weighing in at 6.2 ounces (including battery), the highly portable 5165 measures 5.2 inches high, 1.85 inches wide, and 1.2 inches deep, not counting a stubby antenna that extends another 0.7 inches. Extremely rugged, it should stand up well to being thrown into bags and briefcases or occasionally dropped. Four buttons handle most menu navigation: a hefty "Navi" key in the middle, up and down arrow buttons that control volume during calls, and a key marked "C" for "clear". Menu navigation is very intuitive. A tap of the Navi key brings up the first of a series of graphical menu items. Hit Navi again for additional menu options, or tap the up or down arrow keys to select a different menu. Top-level menu choices are a phone book, messages (SMS and voice-mail alerts), call log, settings (for calls, phone, and security), system, games (Memory, Snake, and Logic), clock, tones, and keypad lock. The brightly backlit display works well with the control keys to simplify finding and making choices. In text mode, the phone provides five 16-character lines. The 5165 lets you choose from 30 preprogrammed ringer tones. You can also download an additional five from your service provider's Web site, if applicable. Although there's no internal vibration mode, an optional vibrating battery is available. You can store electronic business cards in your phone book. Any friend or associate can forward his or her name, number, and e-mail address to your phone, and you can automatically store the information with some deft menu navigation. One caveat regarding faceplates: In theory, all 5100-series faceplates should work with this phone, but in practice, only Nokia-brand faceplates seem to work. The problem is the keypad, the thin rubber pad inside the phone on which the actual keys are mounted. We tried several different faceplate models (both Nokia-branded and after-market models) and found the 5165's original keypad will not accommodate non-Nokia faceplates. The 5165 supports the usual array of call and messaging features. If the services are supported by your carrier, you can use this phone with caller ID, call waiting, call forwarding, and voice-mail alerts. A call history stores the last 10 numbers dialed, the 10 most recently received calls, and the last 10 missed calls. The phone supports two-way SMS text messaging, but isn't WAP- or Internet-enabled. The 5165 offers four basic security features: an initial security code, a keypad lock, call-restriction modes, and a lock code that can activate or deactivate memory and menu options. The lock-code feature lets you store numbers in a secret unlocked location, allowing you to make calls even if the phone is locked. The 5165's NiMH battery is rated to last up to 180 minutes of digital talk time and 200 hours of digital standby time. In our testing, we achieved 180 minutes of digital talk time and over 225 hours of digital standby time. Overall, Nokia's 5165 is a noteworthy and reasonably priced addition to its 5100-series phones. Choose your favorite faceplate color and ringer tone and start dialing! --Brown Consulting Associates & Thom Arno Pros: Cons: How We Tested Battery-Talk/Standby Time When reading our reviews, you should view the test results of mobile-phone battery talk time and standby time as relative information only. Many variables, including carrier signal strength at your location, signal consistency (including incoming and outgoing calls), display and ringer settings, and battery-charging methods and history, will affect performance. When handset manufacturers and mobile-phone carriers list talk-time and standby-time ratings, they usually include disclaimers about variable performance and often refer to the times they publish as maximum times. Some quote expected battery-life ranges, and in this case you're probably safe to assume you'll experience at least the minimum rated range. Note that manufacturers of dual-mode digital and analog handsets publish battery-life rates for both digital and analog modes, as analog mode consumes much more power than digital mode. Our Tests: We tested digital-mode talk and standby times with each phone. Prior to each test, we fully charged the phone's battery according to the manufacturer's directions. To test digital-phone talk time, we turned the phone on, established a digital-carrier signal, dialed a number in our test lab, and, when the call rang through, took the receiving phone's handset off the hook. When all went well, we simply recorded the time when the phone died. In a couple of cases, the phones lost the signal and dropped the calls. If we were right there and could redial, we did so immediately and continued running the test. Otherwise, we halted the test, recharged the battery, and restarted the test. Assuming consistent carrier-signal strength, this test should represent best-case talk time. It's worth noting the talk-time performance of several phones significantly exceeded the manufacturers' ratings. To test digital-phone standby time, we turned the phone on, established a carrier signal, and left the phone in standby mode. We checked the phone every few hours (for what was often days on end) until the phone finally cut out. As no outgoing or incoming calls occurred during testing, and because the phone was not moved, this method should represent best-case standby time, again assuming consistent carrier-signal strength. I'm frustrated with this experience and miscommunication from the customer serivce.
The big stuff - RF and sound are great. Battery life I have found to be good (they clam something like 300 hours in the specs - but I would say more like 150 - still this is pretty good). The camera is only decent - but I don't consider this a big deal - its for fun and it achieves that goal fine. The menus are fast and access to numbers is easy. The phone is small and stylish, is smaller than my old T720 - if you include the antenna which you must! (ouch!). Obviously you can pay more and get better phones - but for the great price its selling for now (net $50 return with new 1yr contract), I don't think you can go wrong, especially if you want a candy-bar style. best of luck!

I think Audiovox 8610 is perfect for almost anyone. The price is okay but right now i just send in rebate for $50 back from Sam Goodie. Up front cost with tax is about 130.00/119.00 without. So I figure it perfect deal. Plus I actually got this phone cuz I thought lost old one. It turn out i just had hiden with under my bed. I love the color screen it has 65k which look great. The ringtones are cool to. I prefer techno since im in my 20's. Phone book is also a plus, speaker phone also great feature if dont want to listen directly into from the phone. Speed dial is good incase you drive you just press the pre-set number you program press send it dials that person #. It also has to games blackjack. It pretty easy for me. I always like playing it. The other game magic hexa have not spend much time. I wish put more game than 2. The wallpapers are okay. But they should include more. --------------------------------- 20 /30/50/100 top cards for when you run out minutes. They also have auto top if count goes below certain it automatically up more minutes or you can purchase from retailer like best buys or 7-Eleven. I suggest using for emergercies or calling your parents to tell where your at and when going to be home. Because you can use up your minutes fast with 20 or 30 card. If you want to talk a bf or gf have them call but tell you call them from home phone so you dont have buy a new top card the next day. If long distance call you better off using the cell. Remember it same rate 25 per minute. One last thing you have to top up once every 3 months.
Features- INCLUDED IN BOX: A holster for this phone is available for $9 at Car Charger, Spare Battery, Travel Charger, Headset also available at VirginMobileUSA.com. GREAT RATES!
1.) The service kinda sucks. AT&T's was better. But I look over it seeing as how the cool phone makes up for the lousy service. 2.) It's a tad bit spendy if you talk more than 20 minutes a month! I'm not the type of girl that likes to chatter away on my cell phone, but I do average about 10-14 minutes a day which (isn't a lot) and I've already, in the past month, have boughten three $20 top up cards and one $40 one! That's expensive for a poor college girl! 3.) The highest the volume on the phone gets (High & Vibrate) isn't that loud. Sometimes I can't even hear it ring when its in my purse or when its in the next room. 4.) It doesn't work in Alaska. Now, a lot of you are probably like "What the hell, who goes to Alaska?" Well that's where I'm from, so when I go home, it doesn't work and that sucks.
Honestly, I really did want to like Virgin Mobile. This Audiovox 8610 is without a doubt the best cell phone I have ever used. The features are amazing and state-of-the-art. If you want to know more about this phone, please read some of the other reviews. Those reviews are what inspired me to purchase this phone. While Virgin Mobile is one of the cheapest prepaid services out there, there are many holes in their service. Virgin Mobile uses the Sprint PCS network, which in Michigan has rock solid coverage along major interstates and in metropolitan areas. The catch is, the phone will not work outside the Sprint PCS network. "No Roaming", as their website says, does not mean no roaming charges. It means the phone will not work at all when outside the Sprint PCS area. This claim in not necessarily misleading on Virgin Mobile's website, but it can easily be misinterpreted, since an average cell phone user will assume a phone will be able to roam. Taking this phone on vacation with me was a mistake, since a few miles off the interstate, coverage disappeared. I also found it very ironic that a local department store sold Virgin Mobile Top-Up cards, while the nearest location with Virgin Mobile/Sprint PCS service was at least 70 miles away. I was actually forced to spend $100 on a different prepaid phone, since I did not want to be without a phone for a week. The phone number I was given by Virgin Mobile, although in the same area code, was not a local call from my landline phone. Virgin Mobile was absolutely no help when I e-mailed them, so I called about the problem a couple days later and didn't get much more help. I was only told that my phone company likely charges long distance for cell phone calls and that I should contact them. All other cell phones I have called from my landline phone have been local calls as long as they are in the same area code. I felt as though contacting the phone company would do no good, since I want friends and family throughout my local area code to be able to contact me without being charged for a long distance call. Another complaint came when I was trying to receive incoming calls. I had no problem receiving a call made from a landline to the Virgin Mobile phone (minus the long distance charges), but I could not recieve calls from other cell phone users. An error message would come that said I was not available, and the caller couldn't even get to my voice mail. This happened during all times of the day. This was essentially the last straw for me. People who wanted to get ahold of me would have to use my Tracfone number, even though I had spent $120 on a brand new phone and service from Virgin Mobile. It sounds as though other users have had more luck with this service than I did. If I could rate this phone, I would give it 5 stars undoubtably. Virgin Mobile's service, on the other hand, would be 1. ... Read more | |

Amazon.com Product Description Overview Compatible with Nextel cell phone service, the ultra-durable Motorola i530 packs all the really necessary features of a modern cell phone into the world's first weatherproof clamshell frame. This phone is so hardy, it actually meets military standard durability specs. If that's not enough, there's also Internet access, speakerphone functionality, a 600-entry phone book, voice recording, voice activation, and more. Durability The i530's Military Standard 810 F certification means that the phone can function normally in environments with high degrees of dust, shock, and vibration. Its hard rubber encasing and interior linings and seals all work to protect the phones antenna, speaker, keys, battery door, and accessory connections. The i530 also sports tough, rubberized keys designed to be both easy to use and durable in their size and resistance to accidental depression. Calling Features Used simply as a phone, the i530 sports a handy 4-way scroll key and two command keys for relatively easy navigation. It also includes a speakerphone function, important for the outdoor/industrial user, which has its own dedicated key. In its closed position, the i530's external screen lets you preview calls before you answer. The phone can also be set to connect to the last Direct Connect call or to a previously assigned Direct Connect contact, by pressing the PTT button. Other calling features include vibrating alert, downloadable voice activation (allowing users to speak a command or number and the phone will respond without a key being touched), recent calls list, call hold, call waiting, a 600-entry phone book, and keypad lock.
