Amazon.com Product Description

Billed as an entry-level phone, the Motorola v180 is actually a feature rich black beauty with quad-band global coverage capability. Instant messaging, MP3 ringtones, dual displays, USB connectivity and gaming support are all here-- a significant step up from entry level phones of the past. It's the perfect companion to T-Mobile service.

Design
The phone features a sleek clamshell design with a large 128 x 128 color display with 65,000 colors. The outside cover of the handset sports a supplementary 96 x 32 monochrome display that can display time, call information, battery and signal strength, and more. A stub antenna is placed on the top right side of the unit. Up and down buttons for volume control are placed on the left side. Most of the phone's features and on-screen menus are controlled by a five-way center button on the handset's control pad. A USB-capable data port is housed on the unit's top edge. There's a standard jack to accept universal hands-free headsets on the bottom of the handset, next to the phone's charging port. Face plates are available so you can create the look you're after on the phone's outer casing.

Calling Features
The V180 supports polyphonic ringtones as well as MP3 ringers, allowing you to use portions of your favorite songs to alert you to incoming calls. You can also assign pictures and ringers to your most common callers. A number of ringtones come preloaded on the phone and more ringtones can be downloaded from T-Mobile's t-zones service. There's even an included application, MotoMixer, that enables you to mix your own ringtones.

Speed dialing, which allows you to call pre-programmed numbers with one button is built in, as is a vibrating alert. A built-in speakerphone makes it easy to talk without having the phone to your ear. Voice activated dialing makes calling your friends, family and associates as easy as saying their names.

Messaging, Internet and Tools
The V180 has all the bases covered when it comes to messaging and Internet connectivity. The phone features support for ICQ, AOL and Yahoo! instant messaging applications (T-Mobile messaging charges apply). There's also a built-in web browser for t-zones downloads and mobile web browsing. T-Mobile's t-zones service lets you receive and send emails, read news headlines, get weather updates, download games and ringtones, and more. Traditional text messaging, as well as picture and sound messaging are also supported by the phone. iTap text entry, which is a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit-- a plus for mobile email and text messaging users.

A number of handy software tools are bundled with the V180 including a voice memo recorder, a calculator, a notepad, a calendar and an alarm clock.

Imaging and Entertainment
The V180's USB connectivity can be used to transfer pictures, sounds and graphics to the phone's memory from your PC. Screensavers, themes and wallpapers can be set to your tastes. The V180 is Java enabled, meaning it supports games and application downloads written on the Java platform. Games are available via the T-Mobile t-zones service.

Vital Statistics
The V180 weighs 3.26 ounces and measures 3.43 x 1.75 x .91 inches. Its lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 5.83 hours of digital talk time, and up to 275 hours of digital standby time. It runs on the 850/900/1800/1900 MHz GSM/GPRS frequencies. The phone comes with a one year limited warranty.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great phone, but some flaws
My last phone was the AWESOME Samsung S105; a full featured phone that I miss..but not too much. The Samsung E715 is certainly better, especially the screen quality.

Pro's:
1. Great design and good build quality
2. External display
3. Flashlight feature with LED external light that is also used as the camera flash
4. Fairly quick internet connection with T-Mobile service
5. High quality head phone

Con's:
1. When closing the flip phone during a call it doesnt disconnect for a few seconds so if the other party starts to say.."wait hold on a minute"..it in effect gives the impression that you've heard them and then choose to disconnect them. Trust me this has happened several times. It's annoying.
2. The camera makes this ANNOYING and LOUD snap shot noise when taking a picture. It's due to regulatory requirements in Korea so it cannot be turned off or lowered. Very annoying.
3. The battery life is hardly that good. Buy a car charger. They are only about twenty bucks.
4. There are ZERO "regular" ring tones; ie - a "ring ring" or a "buzz buzz". Most are odd ball tones and songs that sound immature for anyone not in highschool. However, T-Mobile offered to credit me back for the cost of downloading one off the net.
5. You cannot assign ring tones to specific callers; something that was offered on the S105. This is by far the worst feature I belive. Now I have to run to look at my phone every time it rings if it happens to be in another room at home. Before I could "hear" who was calling by the tone that was assigned to that caller.

Over all I love the phone and think Samsung did a great job at designing this one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Some tips for novice users
1) Battery life improves after the first few charges. My first charge lasted 48 hours with minimal usage. My third charge lasted just over 4 days with about 90 minutes of total talk time and about a dozen pictures taken. So be patient.
2) It took me forever to figure out that if you want to take pictures with the lid closed, you have to hold the camera button on the side down for a few seconds.
3) EasyGPRS is the software you want to use to link up the phone to your pc. You can download your photos, call lists, phonebook, etc., or upload new backgrounds, ringtones. The data cable is pricey, I use the IR port on my laptop to connect.
4) I got the samsung leather case for the phone. I dont think I'm going to use it often. When its on, it causes the flip to not close nicely, and it has a plastic cover over the external screen and camera, so camera shots come out even more blurry. But the case looks nice otherwise, and I'll probably cut the plastic part that is around the camera.
5) I dislike most of the built in ring tones. They sound great technically, but there arent much in the way of discreet rings for the office. Most free ringtones on the internet are conversions of pop/hip hop songs, and are also inappropriate for a workplace. On the plus side, you can use mms for ringtones, so you can get mp3 type versatility for your ringtone.
6) Hold the volume button down a second or so while closed and the flash light turns on.

Dont be fooled by the fact I gave this phone 4 stars. Its the best phone I've ever owned. There are lots of little flaws that everyone else has mentioned already. But I think its the perfect format (flip phone, no external antenna), small, and extremely attractive. The only other TMobile phone I would consider is the Motorola V300 (V500/600 coming next year).

2-0 out of 5 stars The Samsung time bomb
After a Samsung V205 which had problems, I was staying away from Samsung products but was given this by my company. Samsung seems to have problems with their charging circuitry or software because this phone developed the same sort of problem that my old V205 did. I would charge it all night, have a full charge in the morning, and 10 minutes into the first call of the day, it would die; the battery was flat dead. This charming behavior began a few months into my ownership. You have to really research it on the net, but I did eventually find out that this is a problem with Samsungs in general (although it's remarkable how difficult it is to get that information -- Samsung must have quite a legal department).

I won't bore you with the warranty hassles dealing with Samsung. Suffice to say that you will have to fight for every concession and in the end probably just toss the phone and buy a different one. That's what I did.

However, I don't give this E715 only one star despite its showing the same charging problems. This is a slick little phone with a lot of great features, so it gets an extra star. I don't really mind the charging problem because when it started to croak the company gave me a new one. If you can work a deal like mine where you get a new one for free every few months, I highly recommend this phone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Phone for a decent deal
I have this phone for the past 3 months and am very very happy with the deal I got. The phone has great features. Apart from all the basic features, it is a great camera phone. I brought this phone not only for its looks but mainly for its camera. Lotz of options like zoom, contrast and brightness enhancement, multishot (a very useful one for clicking photos on the go). The best thing is the photo quality and the photo size (starting from 128X120 to standard 640X480).

Drawbacks are:
1) It takes a couple of seconds for the required feature to get initialized.
2) The screen is smaller than some other camera phones.
3) In the silent mode, sometimes, even after the call ends the vibration persists.

Apart from these minor things it is a class apart from all in its category and the lightest camera phone I have ever seen or used

1-0 out of 5 stars second-rate and overpriced look-good toy-phone
This phone is mediocre and not worth the price. It feels cheap and overly delicate when holding it. Reception left a lot to be desired. The exterior scratches easily. If Samsung could get the phone to work as good as it looks, and included Bluetooth, they would have a winner; until then the Samsung E715 is a second-rate and overpriced look-good toy-phone.

As for T-Mobile... it was hands-down the worst experience with customer service I have ever encountered. A mediocre phone and horrid customer service led me to the Motorola V600 and Cingular. The Motorola V600 may not look as good as the Samsung E715 but reception is excellent... let me restate that... reception is excellent with the Motorola V600, there's better coverage with Cingular, the customer service experience has been good and I haven't had one dropped call yet... With T-Mobile dropped calls were the norm; and I live in an urban area. To top things off, with the Motorola I can transfer data (including pictures) to my PC in a wireless environment whereas if I had stuck with the Samsung I would have had to shell-out additional cash for the data kit and had to connect the phone and PC with wires... that defeats the whole "wireless" concept! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Nokia 6600 User
I have am UK resident and I have this cell phone. I love it. It might be a poor man's PDA but I wanted a I wanted half and half not one of each.
It is annoying that the MMC Card is under the battery, but at least it is safer there, than say slid into the side.
Battery life is low as well, but I didn't want a brick to make calls from, this is 2004, not 1984!
Bluetooth seems cool too.
I noted that a user said there wasn't an autolock feature: there is. Go to Settings>Security>Autolock Period>enter the number of minutes you want before it locks and then click "OK" then enter the phone's security code i.e 12345 (Nokia standard, I'd change it). When it goes into standby the phone will lock. Enter the code and et voila it is unlocked. I would also lock the phone if you add another SIM card, the phone should be unusable then.
I love the fact you can add web browsers etc to this phone and also load photos via IR and the Kodak Picture Center(available for Nokia 7650/3650)

This cellular telephone is worth 5 stars and the 30GBP line rental.

4-0 out of 5 stars good for pictures
The size of the phone is surprisingly bearable, thou it is big. It fits into my jeans' pockets just fine.

The phone has many cool features. The picture quality is pretty good for a phone. The file size of the highest image quality setting is around 40k each. The phone comes with a 32MB MMC card which is plenty. The negative about the MMC card is that it is buried underneath the battery. Nokia should have made it so that it's easily accessible.

The phone also has the ability for you to capture and view video. That's a pretty neat option.

Instructions to send pictures are not clear at all. I first tried emailing it but that didn't work. I had to call to find out that TMobile do not support the phone's email client. However, if you have email accounts with another provider (other than TMobile) and you are familiar with setting up email accounts, you will be able to use the email client.

The default features that came with the phone seem lacking compared to its siblings. For example, it comes with only two games. Also there is no automatic keyguard... or at least that can't be found.

The user menu is a negative on this phone. It's not clear where you go to make changes in the settings. Nokia needs to spend some time on the usability test for this phone.

Battery life is not that great. It seems to last only two days.

I would recommend this phone over the Nokia 3620. All in all, this is a good phone after you get used to some of its quirks.

The TMobile folks are very helpful. No problem at any time in dealing with them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best symbian phone I've used
This phone is one of the best I've ever used. It has everything I needed: bluetooth, infrared, support for MMC, camera, and a good operating system with lots of supporting software.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Nokia Phone
I did lot of research before buying this phone and it paid off. Thanks to all the people posted reviews on amazon.com and it is my turn to post a review. First of all this is my first Nokia phone and I had a samsung phone earlier. These two companies are so much different in making their phones. First let me get down to the pros.

- Symbian OS. Excellent features. It has all the features I could ever think of and the UI is great.
- Display. with 65K colors the screen rocks.
- Connectivity. It has all the cutting edge connectivity(bluetooth, IR) I ever need( ofcourse I can crib on the lack of 802.11 and some other stuff but I want to be fair here). These are simple to use and very useful to transfer files. It syncs with outlook as well.
- Solid call quality. Call quality is extremely good. some times the signal is bad inside our home but I have checked with T-Mobile and it is T-Mobiles' fault. They don't guarnatee the coverage inside buildings.
- VGA camera. Nicely done camera for a phone. To be fair, Let's not compare canon S30 with this camera.
- video recorder is useful sometimes.
- Contacts has several customization options. You can store multiple numbers, change the label etc..
- Solid battery life.

Those are the big pros of this phone and now it is my chance to crib..

- Bulky. I don't know what Nokia is thinking. The form factor could be lot better.
- Sometimes the OS could be sluggish. I am not sure 100 percent sure on this but I want to mention this.
- Video recorder works for only 10 sec. I don't understand what Nokia is trying to do here..
- keyboard is slightly cramped. I don't have any problems with it but some people could.
- Games on the phones suck. I found lot better games online but I need to pay for them.

To conclude this is a great phone and I think this is the best Tmobile phone out there in the market. If you like the shape of this phone, this is the phone for you. There was a good deal on amazon when I bought this phone.

5-0 out of 5 stars BEST PHONE I EVER OWEND.
I tell you why,

1. Checking email on the road
- I like to have email access to my yahoo & corporate account. I found 6600 got a quite neat interface & serves my purpose (setup requires some reading). It's not fast as you expect. Still, better than my first Windows 95 computer.

2. WAP/Internet compatible phone
- I like to check news, stock quotes, login to my messenger when I am on the road :) This phone got inbuilt WAP browser. You can buy cool applications to support logging into multiple messenger service (msn, yahoo & aol).

3. Large screen
- Ofcourse the screen size is comforting. It made my old b/w palm obsolete.

4. Customizable user interface (Theme, Sounds, Wallpaper) & applications
- Not boring old look all the time, you can download free themes from internet. I already got 10+ themes.. This is awesome! Fresh look every week.
- You can load tons of applications on this angel. PDF READER, OPEN OFFICE, OPERA BROWSER, TONS OF GAMES, GPS... ETC. ETC (make sure you load apps on your MMC memory not on the phone - its makes phone drag).

5. Decent camera
- This phone takes real decent pictures. I like digital zoom features (not great, but works for me). I bought PhotoImpact application which supports taking large resolution pictures. Now I am not missing any event... Every team lunch & happy hour now logged!! There is a video recorder I don't use it much... Because, its records too short.

6. MMC Card
- Im loving it. I got no space limitations. I got a 126mb there... I am done only half after nearly 200+ hi-res pictures, 10+ applications and 10+ PDF documents.

BOTTOM LINE, You will never regret buying this phone. Unless, you want a FASSST phone without lot of above mentioned features. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Adam Grossman
I've had the Nokia 6620 since Sep04.I purchased it as a bridge between a PDA and cell phone.I tried the Palm Treo 600 and was not impressed. The Nokia 6620 is adequate as a PIM, but still does not work as well as a stand-alone PDA.During the first few months, it would periodically lock up and the only way to re-boot would be to remove the battery. The problem resolved as mysteriously as it began, with no action on my part. The phone is feature rich and the camera was an unexpected bonus.I originally did not think I would use the camera, but have found over time it has been quite handy!I also discoved a glitch in the Nokia PC Suite software. When I sync'd from Outlook XP, the phone would not allow me to then save any phone numbers to the SIM card. The only time I could save a phone number to the SIM was when I manually entered the contact information into the phone.I also discovered that there was no way to save text messages to the MMC, or export them to my PC.This was a problem when I thought I was going to have to exchange the phone, and did not want to lose text messages.I have also been disappointed with the design of the ear piece connection. It is difficult/awkward to connect, and seems to be easy to disconnect.I think the 2.5mm connector is far better. The other connector is obviously necessary for the ability to sync with a PC.I have been able to send and receive text messages and photos; however, I have not been able to figure out how to IM.The E-wallet feature is interesting, but I haven't found an opportunity to test it.The battery life seems decent, but it depends how many applications you are running and what kind of signal strength you have.Operating in a weak signal environment will run the battery down faster.Overall, talk time is acceptable. The MMode Internet access is abbreviated but can be handy.I have not yet tested it as a wireless modem and cannot offer any comments.

The phone is great but the customer service sucks ! Try getting a biiling issue or technical issue resolved with AT&T/Cingular..

after you have signed a contract, they treat you like dirt..
If you change your plan, rest assured -- your billing will get messed up..after that you need to spend hours on the phone trying to resolve it with customer service..

I was Sprint before and their service was so much better !

2-0 out of 5 stars Big Disappointment.
I bought this phone cause I was eligible for an upgrade with cingular. I like to have the latest technology so this phone was going to replace my Sony Ericsson T616 which I loved.I had Nokia (great phones) and Motorolla before (dont care for them really) so I decided to give Samsung a try since I've heard pretty good things about them and the reviews were favorable.
For the price (without commitment) this phone is unaceptable in my book when you can have the Sony s710a for $100 more and it does all the stuff that you would EXPECT a $400 phone to do.

Pros: Great 1.3 MP camera with zoom, flash and other modes.
Good MP3 player, sounds pretty good with the headset that comes with the phone (dont imagine IPOD quality or anything though)
Amazing resolution and color screen

Cons:No triband although advertised as that
No Speakerphone although advertised as that (you can play the MP3s and listen to them through a speakerphone but you cant use it for a call, how DUMB is that?)
No bluetooth?!?
No sync with outlook even though it says so (even my T616 does that).
Cannot assign MP3 you store on the phone as ringtones...PLEASE!
Picture viewing, deleting, etc extremely slow.
No radio.
Battery lasts for a day.

Thankfully I had 30 days to return the phone back to cingular which I did after I tried to like it for 3 days, but I couldn't. Some of the cons are unacceptable for a smart phone like this one and especially at this price.I thought about buying the Sony s710a but I think I am going to wait for the w800.As for now I am back using my beloved T616.

3-0 out of 5 stars OVERRATED, missing simple features
Pros:
large memory, beautiful color screen, video phone, plays mp3s, compact size

Cons:
NO speakerphone as advertised online, screen exposed (gets smudged/scratched), no bluetooth , poor call quality, poor battery life

Full user opinion
This phone is overrated. I was really excited to receive it 2 days ago and now I plan to return it and switch to Verizon. I favor flip phones over the slider, for the simple reason that the screen is protected. Furthermore, when this phone is closed, the screen is blank! You have to slide it open or hold down a button just to see if you have a missed call or see the time/date. Call quality is poor, not nearly as good as when I had T-Mobile with an old T720. Battery life is awful, barely stays charged for more than a day with moderate use. I expected much more than I got with this phone, and am glad I can still return it with no fee.

4-0 out of 5 stars nice phone..just a few knit picks.
I've had my p777 for a week now...I bought it to replace my x426, and there are just so many new features on this phone that my old Samsung didn't have. So I'm slowly adapting to it.

The one thing that irks me that I probably won't get over is that there is no special "light sequence" or visible light display that alerts you when you have a new message. The sharp red blinking light from my x426 that told me I had a message was something I started to rely on, so now I find myself constantly sliding my phone up to check new messages.

I consider myself fairly computer literate. But it took me a while to get the hang of the EasyStudio File Manager. I finally figured it out, but I also got messages saying the software might not be completely compatible with XP, so I'm not sure if I'll run into problems later.

I was able to store about 20 mp3s on here, that is, including the memory used for pictures, audio, and video. Decent for a phone, but not if you're counting on it being your main music player. I still haven't figured out or found information on how to download mp3s from the wireless web on the phone, or if it's even possible... through my understanding i thought it was..???Anyone ?

Other than those [small] issues, it's a nice phone with tons of features to keep you busy. just make sure they're the right features for Y O U.

3-0 out of 5 stars Full House with poor basics & NO SPEAKER! Urgh
I have used Samsung phones throughout 90s. Then, Nokia phones twice, then Samsung polyphonic phones twice.

This is my first review on the first day of Cingular network using P777. And I got mine at wirefly.com at $249 (with 181 day rebate credit of $125+$125)

I am quite disappointed that the lengthy manual did not help much after I figured all the menu functions just playing with the navigator key for the first 30 min. So, the interface is good.

Now, it has been 3 hours struggling to make my P777 detected with PC. It simply would not get hooked up with my HP notebook with XP Home OS (bought in 2005) - with a warning, saying, 'not compatible.' This is the first problem.

So, I am raising this question to other users: does anybody know how to fix this issue: USB Port- unknown device? I repeatedly installed file manager but my only guess is that the driver is not included or cannot be installed. And, I cannot test IR connectivity, either.

Secondly, Samsung website does not support P777 at all. It is noteven listed in samsungusa.com. Instead, type samsungtelecom.com to find other mobile products. But still I cannot find any useful info. or support from the company websites for this model, P777.

Thirdly, wirefly.com, cingular.com, Cnet.com all said it comes with a speaker, but, IT DOES NOT!!! For the worse, the call volume with other Cingular users were not impressiveeither. And, I live in a city with no high-rises.

So, my verdict based on my first impression is that it is "full house" with no basic function perfected. No manufactur's Support, Installation problems, NO Speaker, poor call sound volume... Video/Pic qualityis still that of a poor webcam. I seriously start to ask myself, do I really need this gadget being troubled this much already?

Before you buy this phone, make sure all these problems I have experieced in the first several hours are fixedor wait for a updated version.

I might return mine pretty soon if I cannot have it recognized with my laptop. Or, I will update my review if I resolve all these issues.

For all the PROS, read other reviewers' writing.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Lot of Punch in a Little Package
If you are looking for a new device on the forefront of multimedia capibilities, then this phone should definately be put under consideration.

The screen, while certainly not as big as the likes of the Sony-Ericsson S710a, is large enough, and the 262k colors displayed really show off the imaging capabilities of this phone. The camera is a 1.3 megapixel, and while there seems to be a slight bit of unexpected grain in the photos, the overall quality is superb. The camcorder really shines--the image quality is great and the sound is top-notch--the best I've ever heard on a videophone.

The MP3 player sounds pretty good; you're not going to pitch your iPod, but the quality is nice for someone who wants to consolidate devices. The provided headphones are a bit of a pain though, hopefully Samsung will come out with a more comfortable version of them.I really had no problem using the Easy Studio File Transfer Software--it's pretty easy to use.Wireless internet downloads are fairly fast using the GPRS network--I can only imagine what it's like with EDGE.

The device has a pretty robust 100 MB of internal memory--plenty for songs, pictures, and video. While some the option for some addition removaable memory like a Memory Duo or FlashCard would've been nice, the average user probably wouldn't need it.

The phone itself has great sound quality--I can hear those on the other end of the line loud and clear and vice versa.Any problems with the service would most likely be that of the network and not with the device.

Probably my own real nitpick with the phone is the size. It's a pretty small thing--not exactly like, say, a candy bar style phone, but it's pretty petite. The numeric buttons are tiny and crammed together. If you have big hands, it's something to think about.

Other than that little problem, I really recommend this phone. If you're looking for a phone crammed with multimedia capabilities and you have a little money to spend--consider this device.

The SX66 follows the standard form factor of the latest Pocket PC devices, with one major addition; as mentioned, a sliding QWERTY keyboard is hidden below the screen. Just below the display is a five-way selection button that allows you to navigate and control the Windows Mobile interface. Meanwhile, shortcut buttons positioned both above and below the screen offer quick access to your Outlook calendar, contacts, messaging, Internet Explorer and more. Alternatively, the device can be directly controlled with an included stylus that slides out of the rear of the SX66's case.

Under the hood, the SX66 sports a 400 Mhz Intel PXA263 CPU with 128 MB of RAM and 64 MB of embedded flash memory storage. The unit's SD IO memory slot supports additional flash-based memory so you can expand available storage. The Windows Mobile 2003 Pocket PC operating system is completely touchscreen-enabled and features advanced handwriting recognition that is compatible with all of the device's applications. There's a standard stereo 2.5mm headset jack, while USB data and charging is handled by the SX66's docking ports on the bottom of the device.

Calling Features
Many of the SX66's calling features are integrated with the Windows Mobile operating system. For instance, the included Pocket Outlook software features a contacts list that is cleverly integrated with the phone's dialing functions. The SX66's built-in speakerphone makes it easy to talk without having the phone to your ear. Polyphonic ringtones are available, as is a vibrating alert. Caller ID and call waiting are also supported. Lastly, the SX66's Bluetooth connectivity makes it easy to sync the unit with a wide range of handsfree, wireless headsets and car kits.

Messaging, Internet and Tools
The SX66 is designed as a complete mobile office solution, so Internet and messaging capabilities are robust. The unit comes packed with pocket versions of Outlook, Internet Explorer and MSN Messenger. In addition to keeping track of contacts, Pocket Outlook features integrated calendar and email functions. Microsoft's ActiveSync software keeps the device synced with all of your PC's Outlook information (via USB, IR, wi-fi, or Bluetooth connection). Users who want Internet connectivity on the road with their laptop or PDA can tap the SX66's wireless modem capabilities (Cingular data plan charges apply). An included Cingular Xpress Mail Suite provides real-time access to your corporate and personal email (with optional Cingular Xpress Mail service). Meanwhile, the unit fully supports basic text messaging, as well as multimedia messaging (MMS).

A generous toolset ships with the SX66's Windows Mobile 2003 software. Pocket Outlook includes to-do lists while pocket versions of Word and Excel are included so you can review and edit documents on the go. A calculator, alarm clock and voice memo recorder round out the tools package.

1-0 out of 5 stars Siemens does not offer upgrades and drops support for phones
I owned the SX56.When it first came out, it was installed with Windows 2002.Months later all manufacturers offered the upgrade to Windows 2003.Most things you do with a Pocket PC phone require the latest version of Windows.Siemens pulled support for Windows 2003 while still selling the SX56.Now my PDA/phone is basically a big, square cell phone. You can do less and less with a Windows 2002 phone every day.
The bottom line is, Siemens has no honor and cannot be trusted. If you call support, they say "We don't offer support for Windows 2003, can I help you with anything else?"If you press them on the issue, they hang up the phone. It's unbelievable.

2-0 out of 5 stars PDA is great - Phone quality is poor
Aside from locking up and needing rebooting twice in 2 months the PDA is fine, however the voice quality incoming and outgoing is less than quality... I am going back to my digital cell and keeping the PDA

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for business use, not that great for consumers
The Siemens SX66 is a WIndows CE based Smartphone designed mostly for business usage. For Consumer purposes it is a bit of an overkill and is not particularly optimized for some entertainment purposes.

This review is written mostly with Business usage in mind (I use it with a Goodlink e-mail client) I also include some consumer comments at the end.

Screen and Input modes.
The SX66 includes a large screen that can fit more elements than other smaller screen phones. This is particularly useful to browse through e-mails.It gives you a choice of typing via a qwerty keyboard or through a virtual keyboard and your stylus. It includes many programmable keys that are mapped to many Windows applications, such as Explorer, e-mail, calendaring, tasks and phone answer and hang up.

Other useful tools: for talking you can use it as any phone talking, or use its wired headset (included) or use its speakerphone mode.It also has a built in camera and a built in voice recorder.

Business Applications
As many other Windows CE handhels (PDAs or smartphones) you can find many applications both for business as well as for consumer purposes.Coupled with an e-mail business client software (e.g. Goodlink) you can have Blackberry-like functionality as your e-mails, meetings and other corporate e-mail items can be pushed into your handheld via GPRS or WiFi. One nice thing about the SX66 vs. Blackberry is that the SX66 with the right software can open most MS Office attachments (and you can even modify some of them).

Using this phone for business apps (e-mail, calendar, et al) this phone is a great tool. Its large screen and its keyboard options allow for great e-mail reading and for composing short e-mails (or SMS messages). For large e-mails, honestly, your notebook is a much better tool.

Battery Usage / Power Options
Battery duration is good but not great for regular phone usgae, it will typically last for one day.If you use it heavily for e-mail or for PDA apps (e.g. taking notes) its battery life greatly diminishes to less than one day. There are many packages in the market so you can charge it in the middle of the day via USB, USB cradle, car charger or regular power adapters. The nice thing in any of them is that it charges really quickly. so can be back to full charge in less than 1 hr.

Networking options
The networking options are many and very useful. It can operate on quad-band GSM (it operates in most countries), it can hook to GPRS, WiFI and Bluetooth networks. It also has infrared connectivity to connect to other portable devices.GPRS is available in most GSM cellular networks, and it will give you pretty much ubiquitous access but at somehow slow speeds (it is good for e-mail clients, as they typically push text into the handhels), for faster access use WiFi and connect is the same networks you connect on your notebook.

Consumer usage
- Not as good performing video.I have tried a couple of times to play home videos (e.g. 30 sec shots taken with my camera) and it has basically stalled and taken long to recover.
- Not as good performing games, its video performance makes it unpractical.
- Built in camera lacks the quality and is below some lower cost phones.

PROS
- Large screen, larger than most phones in the market.
- Variety of input modes.
- Variety of tools.
- Pre-programmed buttons allow quick access to most useful functions.
- Variety of Wireless networks to connect to.
- Good-sized memory included, can be increased greatly using an SD-Card.

CONS
- Battery life is limited.Needs midday recharging if you use PDA or e-mail heavily trough the day.
- Included camera has very limited resolution, pictures come out with a lot of noise and its colors are not that great.
- Lack of EDGE networks support.
- A bit heavy and large format, you need to use its carrying case.
- Video playing is very poor.Don't even bother trying.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, PDA, OK phone
on the whole, I really like my SX66.The reception I get with Cingular (even after the takeover) is not quite what I got with my old AT&T phone, so I believe this is due to the phone itself.

For talking on, the quality is certainly acceptable, but by no means the best cell phone I've ever had.A hands free device is a good thing to have since the phone itself is rather bulky.

That brings us to the downsides:

* The included hands free microphone/headset broke within a month.
* The bluetooth headset I bought (Jabra BT250) has generates a pretty consistent amount of static if the phone is more than a foot or two from the headset.

Everything is functional, and because of the data capabilities I have to say I like the phone and wouldn't trade it in for another, but it'd be a definite 5 star device if they could iron out the bluetooth static issue.

4-0 out of 5 stars SX66 vs Treo 650
I need a GSM phone for world-wide travel, I'm a photographer who needs to have a BT-compatible phone, which can upload image files to the Web.(A Canon 20D WiFi's the image to a HP Ipaq 4705 PocketPC, which captions the image & BT's it to the BT-phone, which then Tx's to the Web.)There's a software package available (see http://www.idruna.com), which runs on the 4705..but if the SX66 & Treo 650 are essentially PocketPCs, then why couldn't they get the WiFi'd image, caption the image, & Tx it to the Web?(ie, avoid the intermediary HP4705)I wonder if that Idruna software can somehow be ported to the SX66 or Treo 650.I bet it can't, or they don't want to.

The Treo650 is a quad-band phone, & has Edge (high speed data network).Isn;'t the latter, where the Treo 650 is better than the SX66? (still dialup speeds).

I'd appreciate any further comparisons between the Treo 650 & SX66.I'm about to spring for one of the, can't decide which. If the SX66 had Edge functionality, I would buy it right now. There are a lot of smaller issues like: USB 1.0 for SX66 (rather than USB 1.1), the screen of the Treo650 is "twitchy".The SX66 looks a lot more compact, the Treo650 looks bulky. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as I had hoped
PROs:
1. Very tiny compared to others I've had
2. Easy to flip open and view
3. Nice color screen
4. Robust "vibrate" mode
5. Hands-free earpiece volume good
6. Battery life great - charges up quickly
7. Hands-free can re-dial and answer and end calls.Nice, but makes the plug too sophisticated - see CON #4

CONs:
1. Flat keys make it impossible to dial by touch alone - need to look at the keypad! This is terrible for driving.See also CON #7.
2. Hands-free earbud falls out of my ear (never had a problem with any other earbuds)
3. In car, hands-free mike picks up road noise.I've had to cup the mike in my hand next to my mouth for people to hear me.Can't use my nice Sony hands-free with X475 because of CON #4.
4. Non-standard hands-free socket.Few devices will work with it.The Amazon "product description" says, "There's also a standard jack to accept universal hands-free headsets." - this is NOT true!
5. Ringer volume difficult to adjust.Need to go into menus!
6. Almost TOO sleek - I'm terrified I'll drop it.There's practically nothing to grip. It's smooth, slippery and rounded.
7. NO VOICE DIALING.T-Mobile salesman told me the X475 was far superior to my old Motorola C332, which DID have voice dialing! This phone - a new, slick phone - should have voice dialing.A major drawback to X475 if you need to drive with it!Mobiledia.com claims this phone has "voice commands", but 2 calls to carrier have confirmed: no voice dialing.
8. Reception cuts in and out - more so on the road - even in metro area, full battery. Is it X475 problem or carrier problem??Don't know.

I really don't care about (and thus have no opinion on):
Ring tones, IM, "T-Zones" / Internet capability (wish I could disable it...), Games, No camera, No speakerphone Connectivity software.

OTHER:
I got a $10 holster - it says "Sydney Harbour" on the belt clip. This is a great accessory!Keeps phone from getting scratched.I never worry about it falling off my belt.Phone is so small I forget I have it sometimes.

CONCLUSION:
Flashy, pretty and small, but I'd rather it was ugly, had voice dialing, a standard jack, and no fade in and out.(function before form!)

3-0 out of 5 stars Worse than my Samsung x105..
Yes, it really is worse than my Samsung x105. I've been using this phone for nearly a month. It looks really cute and seemed like a good upgrade from my last non-flip phone but, its looks don't make up for its functionality.

Good: I've noticed that this phone has an improved T9 system. The colors on screen are very vibrant.

Bad: First off, the reception is the worst I've ever had. People often have a hard time hearing me and vice-versa. People always tell me to repeat myself. The battery life is pretty bad. With my last phone I would charge it every 3-4 days. This one I have to charge every other day and I rarely use it. The ringtones sound "tingy" compared to my last phone and often hard to hear.

I have to disagree with all the previous reviews... Maybe I just got a bad phone. >:( If I did, I wonder if its too late to return it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good, Cheap (meaning inexpensive) phone
This is my first tmobile phone, before i had the much bulkier and expensive vox8610 from Virgin mobile. this phone is GREAT. comes with 4 games, around 20 ringtones with the feature of downloadable mp3 ringtones. you can picture message, send sound files - record you own and send them. i love the Ondemand Alerts, i can check the Red sox score by sending the word SOX to the number 444 - after i set my code words of course, and within 4 seconds i have the up to date score - good for when your stuck in a play and the sox are on - (true story)

pros

- recordable and sendable sound files
- picture messaging with wallpapers
- ondemand scores and news
- unlimited internet
- mp3 ringtones - with a big selection
- 4 default games (bubblesmile; its like snood, kindof. fun2link; my favorite game, you have to transport oil from place to place avoiding obsticals. mobile chess; duh ulitmate golf; harder to get used to but fun.)
- alarms and calendars - auto power on
- customizeable shortcut buttons
- AOL INSTANT MESSENGER OR ICQ
- ability to check your minutes used.
- phycadelic lsd (led) light that goes off when calls come in
- durable and study, ive dropped it like 4 times on pavement, once in teh mud and its yet to even notice - aside from teh battle scars it has now

few cons
- when you have "vibrate and ring" enabled, the phone will vibrate 3 times than go to teh ring, my old phone could do it at the same time.
- every so often - very very rare, it will freeze. you may never notice it
- no downloadable games
- phone and sim memory - this is probaly a really good feature if i knew how to use it.

thats it - great phone - get one of your own, if you activate a new membership you can get it for 20 bucks.

fun tip* aside from teh games, if your bored try pressing the number "2" like 40 times, slow down near the end and on one of the pushes it will get stuck vibrating. even when you close the phone it will keep going, the only way to stop it is to push a numbered button. but if your bored enought you could play teh pussycat with it or something. *it may have to be set on "voice" under sound options for keytone.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Little Phone
I've been using the Samsung x475 for a while now and I must say that I'm very satisfied with it. The small size and weight of the cell allow it to be easily stored away and provide a lot of comfort when you need to be on the phone for a long period of time. Not to mention the hands-free set it comes with helps to make things that much more comfortable.

I love the overall look and design of the phone. It has an attractive blue/silver cover and a service light (green-default) that can also let you know when you have received a voicemail or text message (red-default). The screen is very easy to read and it's simple to navigate through everything and change your settings.

The charger it comes with doesn't need to be used as much as I thought it would. I find that I can use the phone all day long and still not lose even a single bar on the three-bar battery line. Of course, I do put it on the charger almost every night just to be on the safe side of things.

Next comes the fun part: accessories. Hi-fi ringers, wallpaper, games, cases, etc. Most of these are pretty self-explanatory, but I love the Hi-Fi Ringers that you can purchase from T-Mobile's site and then assign each one to a different contact in your phone book. It's a great feature that will let you know the difference between a call you really want to take and a call that you would rather let your voicemail answer instead.

I'd recommend this phone to anyone wanting a standard flip-cell without the need of a camera. It's a really good purchase for all of us minimalistic lovers out there who just need something that can get the job done.

5-0 out of 5 stars Real nice
I just got this phone, and it's smaller than I expected. When I measured it, it turned out to be 3 and 3/8 by 1 and 6/8 by 7/8. At any rate, it turned out to be smaller than I anticipated. The screen is really bright, the backlighting of the number pad is very nice and bright, and it's built pretty durably for a samsung phone. There's this transparent dot in the middle of the face that lights up when it rings, or it serves as a blinking signal indicator kind of like the old startacs. It charges very quickly, and when you type numbers to dial it displays it in enormous font size for people with bad eye sight.

I was really surprised by the service. I looked at the tmobile coverage map, and my area was not very green (digital), in fact my surrounding area was all tan (not even light green). However, I get all full bars of signal in my home, and this phone seems really good at picking up signals according to other reviews I've read. In fact, I get much better signal and call quality with tmobile than I do with cingular (their map claims my area is all green). Also, the included (wired) headset is very nice and clear.

Anyways, on to the cons. Like other reviewers mentioned, the ringer tones stink. They're crazy eccentric tones no self-respecting person would want to use. But whatever; no big deal. The only other thing I wish this phone came with is a holster. I don't like cases because they make the phone bulkier and not very good for clamshell phones. So you're stuck sticking this phone in your pocket where it seems easily scratchable, like most other phones on the market. Other than this, I really like this phone. Nice and functional; does what a phone should do. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

This update to the tried and true BlackBerry 7200 series adds support for Bluetooth, a brighter display, quad-band GSM and 32 MB of internal memory. This integrated phone, email client (with support for corporate email servers), organizer and web browser is the ultimate weapon for mobile professionals.

Design
The 7290 follows the standard BlackBerry form factor-- a large 240 x 160 color screen placed above a QWERTY thumbpad. The screen offers plenty of real estate to view your emails, web browser content, messaging sessions and attachments. The popular BlackBerry user interface is here, too, which makes it easy to navigate the phone's functions. A jog dial is located on the right side of the unit for quick scrolling through menus and emails. There's also a standard 2.5mm headset jack that can be used with the included headset. A removable lithium-ion battery is housed in the rear of the unit.

Calling Features
Many of the calling capabilities folks have come to expect in a wireless phone are present in the 7290. The unit's Bluetooth capability means you can use a wireless headset with the phone for handsfree calling. A vibrating alert, speed dial, and a contacts list/address book that is limited only by the unit's 32 MB of internal memory, are also included.

Messaging, Internet and Tools
The 7290 delivers the legendary BlackBerry email experience. With Cingular's BlackBerry service plans, you can receive emails instantaneously from up to 10 email accounts (personal and enterprise). With BlackBerry push technology, you don't need to retrieve your email. BlackBerry devices are designed to remain on and continuously connected to the wireless network, allowing you to be discreetly notified as new email arrives. Support is also built-in for viewing email attachments (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, WordPerfect, and PDF formats).

If your company has BlackBerry Enterprise Server installed, you can take advantage of the power of wireless calendar synchronization. Your calendar events are exchanged wirelessly and automatically so that your desktop calendar and BlackBerry device calendar are synchronized. All your Outlook meeting requests, changes, and updates are instantaneously synchronized instantaneously with your desktop. Make meeting requests, invite new attendees and more, all on your 7290. Users without Enterprise Server support can manually sync with their desktop calendars and contacts via Bluetooth or USB using the included BlackBerry Desktop software.

Use the 7290's Web browser to access the Internet from the palm of your hand. Browse Web sites, get up-to-date stock quotes, read the latest news, check weather reports and more. Wireless text messaging is also supported by the 7290.

The 7290 ships with a number of tools, including a calculator with a unit converter and a to-do list. The unit's software is based on the Java platform, meaning Java-compatible games and applications can be added to the device.

Vital Statistics
The RIM BlackBerry 7290 weighs 4.9 ounces and measures 4.5 x 2.9 x 0.9 inches. Its lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 4 hours of digital talk time, and up to 9 days of digital standby time. It runs on the 800/900/1800/1900 GSM/GPRS frequencies. The phone comes with a one year limited warranty.

Amazon.com Product Description

It's here and it's better than ever. With a number of big improvements over the original Sidekick, the Sidekick II is a powerful mobile companion and tri-band world phone. Flip open the big color screen and shoot off unlimited e-mails on the better-than-ever QWERTY keyboard. Snap a photo with the new built-in camera and send it to your friends. Hop online and check your top Web picks. Or just pick up your Sidekick II and make a call.

Design
The Sidekick II is designed to be easy to use in every way. The unique, 240 x 160 pixelss screen supports 65,000 colors and opens to reveal a full keyboard for all your text messaging, emailing and calendar updates. Many users complained about the original Sidekick's lack of buttons for quick access to basic functions. All that has been remedied in this new model. New dual purpose dedicated send/end and page up/down buttons make it easier to place calls and surf the Web. Previously, users had to go into the settings menu of the device to change the volume, but new dedicated external buttons make the process easier and more intuitive. What's more, there's now an external power button-- no more opening the display to turn the handset on. There's also a new external directional pad that can be accessed without opening the screen, a big plus for gaming applications. The Sidekick II retains the handy rocker switch on the right side of the device for quick menu navigation and selection.

The overall size of the Sidekick II is another big change. The unit is approximately 25 percent thinner than the previous version. Overall, it has been improved to provide a more comfortable feel when used as a phone. It's also been designed with an integrated camera for the first time. The camera, LED flash unit and self portrait mirror are located on the back of the Sidekick II.

The Sidekick II runs on the proprietary Hiptop OS, which is designed with a unique wheel-shaped menu for easy selection of applications and functions. The device is built with a total of 48 MB of internal memory.

Calling Features
The Sidekick II's phone book can hold up to a whopping 2000 contacts with multiple entries per contact. A call list remembers your most recent missed, received and dialed calls. The device also features a speakerphone for easy handsfree talking. Polyphonic ringtones with up to 16 chords are included and more ringtones can be downloaded from T-Mobile's t-zones service. Picture caller ID lets you assign a photo to specific callers. Similarly, a ringer ID lets you assign ringtones to callers. For those times you want to keep things discreet, there's a vibrate ringer mode.

Messaging, Internet and Tools
The Sidekick II covers all your messaging needs with support for text messaging and multimedia messaging (MMS) with images, sounds and pictures. When used in combination with the phone's built-in camera, MMS opens up a whole new world of messaging fun. If instant messaging is your thing, you can use the Sidekick II's built-in AOL Instant Messenger application to chat with buddies anywhere. Yahoo Messenger is also available via T-Mobile's application download service (T-Mobile messaging charges apply for text and instant messaging, unlimited messaging included in Sidekick data plan). AutoText word completion, which is a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit-- a plus for mobile email and text messaging users.

If you want email on the go, the Sidekick II has you covered there, as well. With Sidekick Unlimited service, you can get your own 6 MB e-mail account from T-Mobile or you can also set up as many as three other personal e-mail accounts to deliver e-mail directly to your Sidekick II's email application. Web browsing is also easy with the Sidekick II and the T-Mobile Sidekick Unlimited plan. View full web pages with the device's embedded browser and surf T-Mobile's t-zones service, which offers news headlines, weather updates, game and ringtone downloads, and more.

The Sidekick ships with a number of handy tools, including a calendar with up to 1000 event entries, an alarm that can be set to notify you of calendar events and a to-do list. These tools can be synchronized with Microsoft Outlook via the Sidekick II's USB data connection or wirelessly via the Sidekick II's Intellisync technology. Intellisync is a unique web-based application that runs on any PC with a web browser. It allows you to view and update your calendar and contacts information and then upload them to your Sidekick II wirelessly. You can even view all the photos on your Sidekick II in gallery format. All of your data is stored remotely, so if your Sidekick is ever lost or stolen (gasp!) your data is safe and accessible.

The Sidekick II allows you to send and receive virtual contact cards (vCards). vCards are a great way to easily save and share contact information with friends and colleagues. Lastly, if you need to find the keyhole after a night on the town, the Sidekick II has a mini LED flashlight.

Imaging and Entertainment
The Sidekick II has fun in its soul. Snap photos and share them with your friends via messaging or email, or via your online Intellisync gallery. The camera features a night mode for getting good shots in low-light situations.

One game, Rock and Rocket, ships with the Sidekick II, and more are available via the t-zones service.

3-0 out of 5 stars The best for Nextel users
I rate this phone the best for a Nextel user due to it's slim size. I've had mine about a month and am really enjoying not having to strap a phone the size of a brick to my hip.

This phone is essentially a 730 slimmed down. It seems the space savings was achieved with a slimmer battery - because mine does need recharging about once per day.

I've used the 1000,85,95,73 and now this phone. I prefer a slimmer design over battery life. If you don't mind returning to a charger every so often you'll probably like it. If you are away from a power source and on the phone for a while you will need a spare battery or two.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best East Coast - Baja Mexico long distance mobile solution
Received the phone (Bronze) last weekend. Very satisfied with i830's performance and with Nextel's costumer service. Phone is unobtrusive and light, yet solid and functional. Coverage around the Hartford, CT area is excellent: no drop calls yet. Direct Connect feature is outstanding: can talk indefinitely with friends and family in Northern Baja California, Mexico (no more costly long distance bills). Overall, a complete solution to mobile communication in a striking, exceedingly elegant package.

1-0 out of 5 stars AWFUL
As a nextel customer for a year I can assure you that I've NEVER had a good experience dealing with them. Their service area is probably the worst I've had (verizon and cingular are both much better). Their customer service is about as useful as a punch in the face and their calling plans are extremely overpriced. Due yourself a favor and go with another carrier, it's a shame because motorola makes a good phone however using nextel as your carrier you might as well be using tin cans with string.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Nextel Phone To Date
Have had the phone for over a week now. Great call quality, great reception (Dallas area), address book is second to none, LOUD ring tone, great portability. I've always stayed away from Nextel due to the bulky size of their phones. No more.

My last phone was a Motorola V60 from Verizon. The phone is similar in size to the V60, although slightly slimmer. The only negative comment about the phone is that the battery life is very short. If you are a power user, you should always have a charger nearby or at least have a second battery around. For most users, the battery should last a couple days though. With my V60 I was only charging the battery about twice a week. With this Nextel I need to charge it every 1-2 days. The only thing missing on the phone that I wish it had is Bluetooth. Other than that, the phone is perfect for me.

I switched from Verizon after being happy with Verizon for the past 3 years because I recently moved to Texas and I found the Verizon phone was going into the Extended Area Network at and around my work place. Reception was also spotty in the work area although everyplace else was great. I was able to get the phone at a heavily discounted price from a Nextel store (cheaper than what Amazon was selling it for even after rebate and NO I do not have ANY affiliation with Nextel other than being a customer). Also got 1000 anytime minutes for $55, unlimited long distance, unlimited direct connect. With Verizon I was getting 400 anytime minutes for $40. Overall, VERY happy I made the switch.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice Phone
It is a great phone with GPS specially.
You can subscribe TeleNav service from Nextel to do real time navigation. You never get lost if you have this service.
I tried, it is great! ... Read more
