Amazon.com Product Description

the Nokia 6610 combines the "classic" Nokia look with a bright color screen, wireless data capabilities, a speakerphone, and integrated FM radio, and more.

Design
The 6610 is designed to be easy to use, with large buttons and a generous 128 x 128 with support for 4096 colors. A large power button dominates the top of the phone, while a 2.5mm headphone jack and charging input are placed on the bottom edge. In addition to an infrared data port, there's also an input for Nokia's proprietary "Pop-Port," which is designed for Nokia accessories and USB data connectivity. A four-way control key controls most of the phone's functions and menus. And finally, the 6610 uses an internal antenna -- nothing to snag or break off.

Calling Features
The 6610's phone book can hold up to 300 contacts, with multiple numbers and text entries per contact. And because the phone runs on tri-band service (GSM 900/1800/1900 MHz) you can make calls from anywhere in the world. Meanwhile, an integrated speakerphone makes talking in any hands-free environment that much easier. You can jazz up your incoming calls with one of 20 polyphonic ringtones, and there's also a vibrate mode for those times when you want to keep things discreet.

Messaging, Internet and Tools
The 6610 features robust messaging and mobile internet functions. Traditional text messaging, as well as picture and sound messaging (MMS) are supported by the phone, as is mobile web browsing via a carrier-supported GPRS data connection. In addition to email connectivity, this lets you check the Web for sports, weather, stock updates, and whatever else you might want. T9 text entry, which is a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit-- a plus for mobile email and text messaging users.

A number of handy software tools are bundled with the 6610 including a to-do list, a calculator, a calendar, and an alarm clock. You can easily sync up your contacts, calendars and other data with your PC using Nokia's PC Suite software, either wirelessly via infrared beam, or with a USB cable.

Imaging and Entertainment
While the 6610 comes with the standard custom screensaver and wallpaper features, there's also something extra: a built-in FM radio (stereo headset required and sold separately), which allows you to listen to your favorite stations on the go. The phone also comes with a few preloaded Java applications, including Converter II, Portfolio II, a Chess Puzzle, and a game called "Bounce."

Vital Statistics
The Nokia 6610 measures 4.17 x 1.77 x 0.69 inches and weighs 2.96 ounces. Its lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 3.5 hours of digital talk time, and up to 225 hours of digital standby time. It runs on the 900/1800/1900 MHz GSM/GPRS frequencies. The phone comes with a one year limited warranty.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best Cell Phone with Tri-Band to use both in USA & India
Believe me, This phone I used in India and it worked very well. Not to mention it also worked well in USA.
I would recommend this Nokia 6610 for every person who wants to use both in India and USA (T Mobile).
This is a Triband and it may be used in other countries as well.
This one has a speaker phone and it really helps to be hands free in car and the sound quality (using speaker phone) is also good.

5-0 out of 5 stars A phone for every situation!
I've had this phone for about 1 1/2 years, and I can't say enough about it. I travel to China for my job quite a bit, and it is great to have one phone I can use in both the U.S. and China. I just swap out my SIM card on the plane before I land in China, and it works great there!

I also love the IR port, which allows me to transfer phone numbers between my Pocket PC and my 6610. An additional fun feature with this phone is how I can connect it to my computer and transfer MIDI files to the phone for new ring tones.

It also has a great speakerphone, which I use if I'm on hold or if my kids want to talk with grandparents. The speakerphone has a very clear audio quality and it seems the person on the other end can hear me clearly also.

I would highly recommend this phone for anyone travelling overseas who doesn't need a camera phone. I'm not getting rid of this phone until it dies on me!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great phone, slightly difficult keypad, infrared didnt work
I got this one year ago with T-mobile service. Here is what I think:

1. Battery life: excellent. Do not remember how much I talked without recharging, but easily more than 3 hours.

2. Reception: Excellent. But call volume could be better. Sony Ericsson and older models of nokia have better reception. Did not drop calls though.

3. Keypad: Takes some time to get used to, especially if you are pressing keys through a leather case.

3. Other features: Speakerphone is awesome, so is the calendar and the clock. Also has some other features like a calculator and stop clock which can come in handy. INFRA RED DID NOT WORK FOR ME. I did not try calling nokia about it.

Overall, a great phone for making calls.

5-0 out of 5 stars Redefining "Value For Money"
I Picked this phone up for my dad. It felt sleek. What hit me about the phone was the extreme ease of use. It offers radio, about 120 message storage capacity, polyphonic ringtones, upgradeable camera, etc.

Now you'd wonder why you should purchase this phone.I'll list a few key features-

1.It has a four day battery life. Now to me that is the best a Nokia can give.It works like a faithful horse for those on the run. Its a typical office man's phone
2.The looks are sleak yet not imposing. Its sturdy in its own way. The keypad is good. However it takes a bit time to get used to it.
3.The radio signal is as crisp as can be. The radio can be played on the loudspeaker. Now the volume of the loudspeaker exceeds any NOKIA has to offer. At 40% volume, the radio can be heard as loud as you could possibly want it to be.
4.I've used all Nokia phones and till today I havent come accross a Nokia with a better earphone speaker. Its quite loud yet not screaming in your ear.
5.The Phone lacks better memory. It can containt quite a few SMS'es but the newer Nokia Phones offer expandable MMC slots. You can't store many MMS pics on this.
6.The brightness on the phone is quite good. It works as a mini torch in the dark room. The pre-fixed wallpapers are good. The dictionary function on the phone and font that is used while using text messaging are quite good.
7.The phone is fast to the delight of the users. There's no waiting here as the start up time is low.

A thing I disliked about this phone is the battery cover. It took me an hour to figure out the easiest way of opening the lid. Now I consider myself good with phones but it does take a while to get the hang of it.It offers no camera for pictures or videos. But then its been a while since this phone was launched.

I think this is the best phone your odd $120 can buy.Believe me when I say this its a steal at that price.
It has great signal catching ability and has a lot of features and overall delivers what it promises.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor Quality Phone
I'm on my 3rd 6610 now. T-Mobile keeps shipping me new ones because the first two shut off randomly during operation. The reception quality is awful, people say they cannot understand me. I often cannot understand them either, and there are breaks of dead air during phone calls. Key presses into automated systems are often not registered; when I call back the problem is sometimes resolved.I live in a major metropolitan area, so perhaps these issues are not as bad elsewhere. The keys are hard to press and so is the power button. I use an earpiece because holding the phone to my head causes a strange pain. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Sounds Great, Looks Great, Easy to Use
Even a technologically unsavvy person like myself finds it easy to use the dozens of features on this phone. The speaker phone is very convenient; every person who calls can be assigned their own unique musical ringer; and little things like the calculator and the alarm clock can really come in handy.Sprint PCS has by far the clearest reception of any cell phone network.I have never had a problem hearing people even when I have called from the remotest of places in out-of-the-way corners of the country. My wife and I bought the red and green models six months ago, and we have not had a single complaint about the phones or the service.I was a little skeptical at first about spending so much money on a phone, but the clear reception and numerous easy-to-use features make this product well worth it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Impressed!
I am impressed. I yet have tacked down every usable feature.
I know that the hinges are not SO STRONG.But the overall con-
cept a cell phone with a camera and a speaker. Plus able to
get information on the world wide web. I can attest to that.
That getting info.. on the internet can be achieved using
the sanyo 8200.

5-0 out of 5 stars MY FAMILY LOVES THIS PHONE-ALL 3 COLORS!
I switched my two Sanyo 8100 model cell phones AFTER TWO YEARS WITH NO PROBLEMS for the newer up-graded 8200 and although we loved the 8100's, the 8200's are even better with a speaker phone, more better, faster everything it seems and the all new colors! From what I have seen in just a few days of use, the 8200 stands up to all the claims made by Sprint and Sanyo.
GREAT PHONE!

4-0 out of 5 stars COOL PHONE,GAY COLOR
I bought this phone 5 months ago. It has alot
of great features, and I like everything about
it, exept the color. It's more of a pinkish red,
than a cherry red. So if you're a guy like me, do
yourself a favor, buy a different color!

4-0 out of 5 stars A few hassles and a little buggy
Overall, I am pleased with the Samsung v206, probably only because I am not any sort of power user or a gamer. It is attractive to look at, the battery life is incredible, here in the Bay Area, I don't seem to have any problems with reception or dropped calls. However, the phone sometimes turns itself off for no reason.I called ATT customer service and they said this phone is sort of known for this problem, and they can't explain it.They offered a refurbished phone, but I didn't take them up on the offer. It happens roughly once a week, and I believe it's caused mostly by how I flip the phone open.I'm not rough with it, by any means, so I consider this (if it is the real reason) to be unacceptable.

A few other things I would change:
I can't understand why this phone doesn't have speakerphone. It costs enough.
Sending pictures is completely impossible.
You can't customize ringers and set them for individual caller id's.

2-0 out of 5 stars This camera phone has super annoying ring tones
The thing that annoys me most is that there are no basic, simple ring tones loaded with this phone, and none that can be downloaded anywhere. I wasted time with Customer Service trying to get them to send me one simple ring tone - Samsung said that this is how AT&T orderd the phones and AT&T said that there is nothing they can do. Do you believe that there is nothing they can do?

It has a nice, colourful display and a cool look, so it has great visuals and works fine, with the exception that:

Incoming international phone calls with many digits aren't logged/stored in full, so you can't call people back because you're missing their last digits.

My first Samsung V206 crashed; AT&T Wireless shipped me a new one and it works fine. However, all the numbers I'd stored on my SIM card in the old phone were transferred to the new phone labelled as people's cell numbers, whereas I'd stored some of them as work and home numbers. I can't seem to be able to re-label them. Nothing earth-moving, but also annoying.

Cutting and pasting email addresses to move them between the camera options and the phone book options should be much easier.

And as with all camera phones, the image quality isn't great. Grainy at best in low-light situations.

Dat's all, folks. The phone is just alright; definitely overpriced. Get a cheap regular cell phone plus an ultracompact digital camera instead.

5-0 out of 5 stars To help solve problems for some folks!
I have the Samsung V-205 for abnout 2 months. It is the exact same phone, but just for T-Mobile. Many complain that the only way they can get the backlight on the front to show the time is by opening up the flip so that the front light appears. But they complain that if they are like in a movie theater that it is too bright. The way you can view the front LCD light without opening the phone it is by pushing down on the button on the side of the phone for about 3-4 seconds. This causes the light to turn on.

5-0 out of 5 stars Combines all the best features
PROS: Better than the similar Sprint model (A600) because of the external display without flipping. Farely good ajustable camera and sufficiant storage for pictures. Option to block caller ID. One button silent mode. Ablity to change/remove service light. Calling groups with specific pictures and ringtones.

CONS: The vibrate & ring alert option vibrates for a few seconds then rings. The external display screen only lights up only for an alarm, new message, or incoming call. Alarms do not have a snooze option.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Phone in Barbados so far....
Hi, all I just bought my Samsung V206 phone and I just have to say it is the best one in my country so far (Barbados).
My complaint is why did they not enable software for the camera to zoom in and out and oh yeah i love the pixels on the camera.
I would tell anyone if they are looking for a great phone the Samsung V206 is the GREATEST.<... ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars a fine simple phone, but why is the earpiece volume so loud?
this is a fine, simple, bottom-of-the-line phone that is easy to use for those of us who mostly just want to pick up and dial. but
1. what is with the volume -- when you have the earpiece in, with the volume at the lowest setting it is still annoyingly loud.whoops!someone blew this detail, and as a 100% earphone user it drives me nuts, in about half of my calls i am wincing whenever anyone raises their voice.and i am not usually a volume sensitive person - i am a tiny bit deaf and in my last nokia i frequently had the volume on the highest setting.
and 2.) my second complaint:the stupid "i'm sooo euro-cool" styling of the buttons, which are all crammed together with no space between.it doesn't cause too many errors, but still, why oh why did they have to screw up this phone with trashy functionless design?stupid finns need to visit japan and get a clue. 3.) finally, the form factor: this phone is kinda large for the 21st century.no fitting this baby into an altoids can.my friends see it and make fun of me.but wait, there's more! 4.) the 30+ rings that come with the phone are entirely aimed at the tween demographic, could nokia have not put a single, simple, conservative ring appropriate for someone over the age of 19?so whatever, $20 bucks, you get what you pay for, but i kind of wish i'd bought a samsung or some other korean.nokia is over.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Simple Phone
This is my first phone, and I have been using it for a month now. I wanted the most reliable one with the least amount of extra gimmics, and the Nokia does not disappoint.Although I originally wanted a flip style phone, the Nokia seemed much more sturdy than flip phones in the same price range. In addition, this phone is often free when you sign up with a wireless service.I am not sure if reception quality is determined mostly by the phone or by the service, but I can say that this phone plus T-Mobile in the greater San Francisco Bay area has given me no significant reception problems.

My only complaint is that the ring tones are extremely obnoxious. I'd like more "normal" rings to choose from.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best cell phone you'll ever own!
After struggling with reception issues on my Motorola V66, and calling T-Mobile customer care with no luck, I decided it was time for a new phone.I started calling around and the cheapest T-Mobile phone for existing customers was the Nokia 6010 for $54.99 plus a one-year contract extension.I know a lot about Nokias because my mom has a Nokia 6190 and my dad has a small Nokia 6015i that I was jealous about because it is so small and cute. The Nokia 6010 is a larger version of the 6015i, which I didn't find out until after I purchased the phone.
I am so happy I paid the $54.99.It is definitely worth the money and contract extension.I get clear reception, a great signal, color screen, etc.VERY HAPPY T-MOBILE/NOKIA CUSTOMER HERE!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars By far the best phone in the market
If you are looking for a phone that has the best reception and sound quality; then this is the phone you want. I usually do not write reviews, but since I have suffered so much with cell phone receptions recently, I thought this might be useful information for new buyers. I used to have a very hard time to get reception inside my apartment. I tried several T-mobile phones inside my apartment; such as SE T610, Nokia 3100, Motorola V300. Nokia 6010, by far, has the best reception and sound quality.

I bought a Sony Ericsson T610 from amazon.com with T-mobile service plan. Although it worked okay inside my apartment in Denton, TX, when I recently moved to Irving, TX, I hardly got any reception inside my apartment. The SE T610 used to dropp my calls frequently in my apartment. All I wanted is a phone that has the best reception regardless of otherfancy features. I head, as far as the reception is concerned, Nokia-phones were the best. So I got a new phone, Nokia 3100 from a local T-mobile dealer. I did not notice any significant difference between SE T610 and Nokia 3100. Then, I returned my Nokia 3100 and exchanged it for Nokia 6010. This phone has way better reception: places where other phones hardly get any signal bars, this one gets at least 2-3 bars.

Yes, it does not have camera and other fancy features- I agree. But if your main concern is to get good reception, and quality sound so that you can have some uninterrupted conversations with friends and families, then this phone should be your choice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Solid Phone
I just got this phone (free with family plan at T-Mobile stores) and I'm already very impressed by it. The voice quality is very high, echoing and crackling really bother me and I haven't experienced either -- this could be T-Mobile's service, as I used to experience this all the time with Verizon on two different phones. It holds a very strong signal just about where ever I am, in the house, in the car, outside... where ever.
I also learned something interesting today, the salesman who sold me this phone refused to sell us the Sony Ericsson phone, he said it's garbage. It has all the bells and whistles, but the functionality is not there and it just doesn't pick up signals that well. I thought that was interesting because we would have actually paid for that phone. He said the Nokias and the Samsungs are great though, and so far I'd have to agree.
Overall, great phone, no bells and whistles (like camera, or bluetooth) but it's highly functional... well and it has some fun games. ;^) ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good
The V60 i loved for about 6 months then a relitive got got a Sanyo 4700 with Sprint.I laiked that much better because the voicemail told you who your message was from, aqnd the ringers sounded better and were much louder. My other complaint was major when about 18 Months after haveing the phone my antenna broke off and was lost.AT&T would only give me a refurished Nokia 1260 which was not a nice or as expensive as my phone, and would only give it to me if I gave them my V60 and a 1 Year contract. So since I only had another 6 Months I did nothing about the phone, but I went to a smaller plan and gat a Samsung A600 with Sprint and have no Complaints, because the Motorola literraly whold only work in the AT&T Wireless Location.

1-0 out of 5 stars yeah... cool stuff...

Looks nice, works well, and doesn't have extra stuff that you don't actually use. Just everything you NEED, making it a resonable price.

1-0 out of 5 stars Class action suit against AT&T & Motorola
I am researching a class action lawsuit against AT&T and Motorola. I have statistically researched both of my phones, and have peoved them to be defective. They both have %70 failure rates, in major cities, with full charges, and full antena reception. Our phones have been overcharging us continually hundreds of dollars ecach month. Every answer you will get from both is that it is your problem, not the phone or your service operators company. They are lying, they are aware this model is defective.I am looking for others with similar complaints, to join the suit. If you have suffered from the same problems contact attv60iclassaction@Yahoo.com to join the class action.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Phone and Service Provider
I upgraded to the V60i a few months ago and have been very satisfied with it. The compact size makes it easy to carry and it comes with a clip, so that I can hook it to my purse strap or belt.

I have no complaints about reception even though quite a few of my friends in the area have major problems with the reception on their phones. This may be due to the AT&T service and not the phone, but it is worth mentioning as I have never had calls drop out nor lost signal.

What I like most about this phone though is the alarm clock funtion. I am able to have many different alarms at one time. This comes in handy due to a changing schedule - I can just select a preset alarm time instead of setting a new alarm each night. What a great feature!

Basically I am very satisfied with this phone and with AT&T service and would recommend it to anyone in the market for a new phone. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Waste of Money, Doesn't even deserve one star!
$75??? Give me a break, this horrid peace of junk isn't even worth $0.75! I don't own this one, but my mom does and she really wants to get a new one but she's bound by a contract. The backplate that protects the battery fell off and is duct-tapped on for "protection".

I had to leave my cell phone at home one day while it was charging and I was out shopping so I borrowed this one. Well, let's just say that I missed my phone! I couldn't hear what Mom was saying (even on high volume), the reception kept staying at one or two bars and it doesn't have a vibrate or silent ring so she constantly has to turn it off which means she doesn't call me back for several hours sometimes.

I also don't like how small it is because it barely covers my ear which means I can't really talk into it. Plus, it would always turn off in my pocket.

Oh yes, and the menu is almost impossible to follow! You have to press "Off" in order to go back, what's up with that????

I would recomend a flip-phone so you can actually speak into it and so that the off button can't be presed unintentionally. Oh yeah, and anything that is not Simens! My sister and I are both pleased with our Motorola flip-phones, if that helps any.

1-0 out of 5 stars Buttons fall off
I thought this phone was great at first cause of its size. that is, until the buttons started falling off. im missing the volume button, the earpiece, and the 1, 2, and 3, buttons, im sure the rest will fall off soon. this is the worst, CHEAPEST, most poorly made phone ever. Ive only had it for about 6 months, its ridiculous. seems like all the pieces were glues together rather than being attatched correctly

4-0 out of 5 stars Great little phone
I got this phone from AT&T as a refurbished freebie to replace my
Sony-Erickson phone about 9 months ago.I have to say that it's held up to my abuse quiet well, that includes dropping it on concrete several times. Something I am not recommending you test.
Despite a couple of divots on the corners, the phone works fine.
So all these one star reviews seem a bit one-sided. I have had nothing fall off or even become loose. It's a sturdy little phone.

The reception is good. That may have to do with location, but I have used it while traveling in several different states. The speakerphone works well though the volume is not high enough for very noisy environments. The voice recorder can only record about 3.5 minutes so for me it's nearly worthless and I don't think its controls were well-thought, it's too easy to turn it on unintentionally so after a while it becomes a nuisance. I could do without it.The menu navigation took some getting used to and it's not intuitive. Once I learned some numeric shortcuts it became more useable for me, but others may not be so patient. Using bluetooth to Sync it with my apple computers has not been a problem.I was able to sync my old Sony-ericsson T68, then remove the card, and place it the Siemens S56, turn it on and then transfer my addressbook via bluetooth. It worked fine though I found the phone numbers in autodial wouldn't dial they just beeped at me.If I went in edit mood, modified the entry and saved it seemed to work fine after that. That was a little annoying, but otherwise things worked. Text messaging works fine though with any phone this small, it's a bit tricky to push buttons fast enough. The manual could be better. 3-way calling turned not to be that hard to do but explanation in the manual was almost non-existent.

I like the phone, but for a non-techie, the interface could seem a bit too cluttered and the learning curve too steep. For some. it will be loveable.

1-0 out of 5 stars Piece of $#1T
This is the worst phone I've owned. The chrome plastic piece covering the speaker fell off on its own after one month and I had to superglue it back on.Then the buttons started falling off.Fortunately my Cingular plan allows me to upgrade.

Match these mechanical failures with the overly complicated operating system, and you have an expensive door stop.

I will never purchase anything made by Siemens again.

3-0 out of 5 stars Siemens s56 phone... lacks basics
Its small design and great features and cancelled by its poor reception, loudspeaker quality, button durability. Ridiculous product warranty policies. The button on my S56 fell off, followed by the face plate, after I have been using it for ten months. Siemens refused to do the warranty repair/replace and insisted that "the button and face plate won't fall off by defect," implying that I must have done something to damage it on purpose. Coincidently, the same button of my friend's two-day old SL56 fell off before. As a conclusion, the quality of Siemens S56 and SL56 are not so great... could do better ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great phone but i wouldn't pay the retail price
The phone is great. The signal strength was always strong. The battery life was good and lasted pretty long being that I'm always on the phone with my wife. The camera works great, no grainy pictures.Screen is big and clear.Calls are clear.

Now here comes the bad....
Although the phone is great and I still love it, it began to go stupid on me as the months went by.Ringtones that were deleted mysteriously reaappearred and some assigned ones played different tones. You can't see who's calling you unless the screen is flipped open, but that lets the screen get scratched up.Ringtones are low because they play from the receiving speaker.Flash doesn't do anything. You will never use the phone with it's flash because the barrel pointed its way is useless.Voice dial is only a feature for the visual impaired because it takes about 2 minutes to make a call without it.Sometimes I would end up calling the wrong person, the numbers cross with different names...crazy.I love this phone and just would wish for samsung to make it better. It would've been great if they had included a speaker on the outside of the phone as well like verizon's version so you can talk with the phone flipped either way and have louder ringtones.

1-0 out of 5 stars POOR PHONE.... POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!
Okay... I have had this phone for over a year and these are my perrels with this good-features crappy-designed phone.

-Atenna: Within about three months, there was an internal problem with the phone and my atenna broke off. I should have taken it in right there to get a new phone but I figured the hell with it,I get alright reception anyways.

-Scratching: First 3 weeks I got the phone it scratched very easily from just normal usage of phone and after about 2 months the paint was was chipping at the sides.

-Creaking: After about 5 months the rotating camera would creakin and catch on the track - same with the swivel screen.

-Detaching Top Portion: At about 12 months the top swivel screen would get looser and looser just from using the phone and the special swivel feature.Screen went totally black... would not go back to normal. Called to get a new phone or ANYTHING AT ALL and got told there was nothing and I have to buy a new phone.

It is a terrible design that breaks and falls apart within a year... and Sprint has terrible customer service. You pay $250 dollars for the thing for it to just break in a year by a faulty design. I would have purchased insurance on the phone but it was NEVER offered to me. Highly discourage this phone without insurance or extended warranty.

2-0 out of 5 stars Flimsy, cumbersome, and just plain lousy
This phone is crap, I'm sorry.I had the VGA 1000 which I was very satisfied with. I lost the phone and got the A600 as a replacement.

The 1st thing that disappointed me was it has no external screen. If u want to know who's calling, u have to have a specific ringtone assigned or flip it open to see.

The screen thingy swivels at a 180 degree angle but it wound up detaching itself to the point where the screen would not work. Another thing that pissed me off was that the charger wouldn't stick in.I had to prop the phone upright so that it could charge. How ghetto is that?!

I replaced that phone and wanted to get a VGA1000 again but under the equiptment replacement program, i could only get what was in stock. How convenient.Another A600 was sent to me and the same thing happened again!I didn't even swivel it but it detached on its own.I started noticing how the screen would start to die on me.I would press a button and nothing would happen on the screen.Sometimes I would unintentionally call a person. The flip thingy was so loose, u could shake it and it would rattle.Sooo ghetto.

Horrible battery life, takes forever to charge.Quite cumbersome due to the large internal screen but it should at least have an external screen to make up for it.Also, if u let the phone drop, even a small bang, the battery goes flying. The button to release the battery is too easy to push.

Dont' get this phone. It is flimsy and will only give you headaches.Get a VGA100 which shares the same easy menu but has an external screen.

5-0 out of 5 stars da bomb phone by Kevin Nolan (Babe Magnet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
This phone is the best! Everybody should get it. Great camera and it turns 360 degrees so you can close it and still see the time. It also has a vibrating ring tone so you can get it when it vibrates.

It is the bomb phone so get it If you read this im sure it helped so get the god dam phone [...]

2-0 out of 5 stars Not Quite What It's Cracked Up To Be
Yes, the camera function is nice. But not worth the
price they're getting for this phone, considering the
other drawbacks.

One, as another customer said, the reception on
this phone is terrible. The worst I've had on any
cell phone I've ever had, bar none.

The revolving face-plate makes the phone somewhat
cumbersome and the faceplate scratches too easily
in my opinion; especially when you actually USE your
phone and carry it with you at all times.Despite my
best efforts, my faceplate was scratched within
about two weeks and no amount of polishing has
helped.

It's hard to hear from this phone, something about
the design of the earpiece I feel like I've always
got the phone somehow in the wrong position on
my ear, but however I change it, I still can't
hear from the phone well.

Again as another customer stated, the phone takes
forever to do things.Definitely an exercise in patience.

An "okay" phone, but in my opinion not at all
worth the amount of money I had to pay for it.
I like Samsung products in general, but this one
could surely use some improvement! ... Read more

In terms of performance and functionality, the Sanyo 4500 is arguably the best phone we have encountered. The sleek, well-designed 4500 has plenty of features, including voice-activated dialing and a voice memo recorder, that aren't available in most premium phone models.

Out of the box, we were impressed with its sleek, robust construction, alluring silver finish, and intuitive controls. The 4500 also boasts dual-band/dual-mode electronics, unsurpassed talk and standby times, and sophisticated functionality including Web access, e-mail and two-way SMS capabilities.

At 5.3 (H) by 1.7 (W) by 1.1 (D) inches and weighing just 5 ounces, the 4500 is sturdy and a bit trimmer than its competitors. We could easily operate the side-mounted volume controls while on a call, and we effortlessly placed calls and navigated the Web with one hand. The headphone jack, located just above the volume controls, allowed us to hook up a hands-free kit and stash the 4500 in our pocket while we conducted conversations. We aren't fans of retractable antennas--as they are prone to damage--but we used the 4500 for several weeks without any complaints or breakage. And while the 4500 doesn't have an infrared modem, you can sync it with your computer using a standard data cable connection kit.

The six-line screen (five text lines, one icon line) and blue backlit display allow for seamless navigation through the 4500's bountiful menu selections. Using the four-way navigational button, you can peg through the following menu selections: Call History, Messages, Phonebook, Roaming (where you can activate a safeguard against placing or receiving accidental roaming calls), Wireless Web, Calendar, Environment (so you can match the phone's alerts to your surroundings), Sounds, Display (enter your own personal greeting or adjust screen settings), Security, Setup, Special (access to the calculator and two weird games--Crab Catch and Slot Machine), Voice Service, and Keyguard. One caveat: The games, especially Slot Machine, gulp battery life. Fortunately, a travel charger, which fully rejuiced our sample model in about 45 minutes, is included.

The 4500's design is rounded out by a well-spaced keypad, OK and CLR buttons for menu prompts, Talk and End buttons to place and end calls, a lavender Speaker button (for voice-activated calls), and a speaker located on the back of the phone.

Hands down, the voice-activated features are the heart of this phone. It was a cinch to set up voice tags and establish a list of 30 friends and associates we could call with voice-activated dialing. While our sample 4500 handled single names better than full names, we never had trouble getting the phone to recognize first names. Once we set up voice tags, all we needed to do was press the Speaker button, say the name of the person we wanted to call, and the 4500 handled the rest.

The voice memo recorder was just as useful. Instead of scrambling for Post-it notes or our PDA, we saved our to-do lists, important numbers, and reminders in the 4500's memory. An added bonus: when playing messages back, you have the option of listening to them over the earpiece or main speaker. You can even attach a voice ringer to any number in voice dial memory. This was a little tricky to figure out, but we never had to crack the owner's manual for assistance.

And the minibrowser is just as functional and organized. The 4500 has quick access to all your favorite sites as well as news, weather, stock, and entertainment updates. Again, the phone's superb navigational controls made surfing the wireless Internet a joy, and we can't say that about all Web-enabled phones. One question that remains unanswered, though: Why do you have to go so far into the options to enter your own URL?

Like most phones of its kind, the 4500 supports carrier-dependent features such as caller ID, call forwarding, three-way calling, and call forwarding. And, with its 300-name phone book and 200 SMS capacity, the 4500 further cemented its status as an ideal business communication tool.

The phonebook also has labels for your different contacts. We tagged most of our phone book entries, whether they were our colleagues, friends' mobile or pager numbers, fax numbers, or roommates. Organizing short text messages was just as easy: We assigned a folder for each contact and stowed messages in their respective folders.

Other baseline features include a T9 predictive keypad; eight speed-dial locations; 10-number incoming, outgoing, and missed call logs; built-in vibrating alert; and 10 different ringer selections, including voice alert, which announces the name of the person calling.

With its event calendar, to-do list, calculator, and series of different alarms, the 4500 doubles as a PDA. And the phone has plenty of other noteworthy features to boot.

If the 4500 is unable to find a carrier signal after 15 minutes of searching, a power-save feature is automatically activated. Press any key, and the phone starts to look for a signal again. For your own sanity, whenever the phone is in power-save mode a message is displayed on the screen. Also, if you dig in the phone book, you'll find direct lines to 411, roadside assistance, and account info. You also find a pause feature that enables you to successfully preprogram voice mail or credit card call numbers.

The 4500 also offers advanced security features. You can lock both the phone itself (to prevent outgoing calls, except to emergency numbers) and the keypad (to prevent accidental calls if the phone is in your backpack), set different call restrictions, erase your call logs, or store numbers in a secret location. Furthermore, if your phone is lost or stolen, a special feature lets you erase personal information and lock the phone by sending a SMS message from your PC, PDA, or other device.

The lithium-ion battery is rated for up to four hours of talk time and 288 hours of digital standby time. Our sample 4500 (outfitted with a Sprint PCS account) sipped battery power; it held a call for four hours and 15 minutes and it lasted over 12 days in standby mode. You read that correctly: our 4500 was left on for almost two weeks before the battery gave out.

Whether you're a businessperson who needs a thorough mobile communications device or someone merely looking for a cool new phone for everyday use, the 4500 is ideal for people who aren't impressed by the norm. --Thom Arno

How We Tested Battery Talk/Standby Time

When reading our reviews, you should view the test results of mobile-phone battery talk time and standby time as relative in formation only. Many variables, including carrier signal strength at your location, signal consistency (including incoming a nd outgoing calls), display and ringer settings, and battery charging methods and history, will affect performance. When han dset manufacturers and mobile phone carriers list talk-time and standby-time ratings, they usually include disclaimers aboutvariable performance and often refer to the times they publish as maximum times. Some quote expected battery life ranges, a nd in this case you're probably safe to assume you'll experience at least the minimum rated range. Note that manufacturers o f dual-mode digital and analog handsets publish battery-life rates for both digital and analog modes, because analog mode co nsumes much more power than digital mode.

Our Tests: We tested digital mode talk and standby times with each phone. Prior to each test, we fully charged the ph one's battery according to the manufacturer's directions. To test digital phone talk time, we turned the phone on, establish ed a digital carrier signal, dialed a number in our test lab, and, when the call rang through, took the receiving phone's ha ndset off the hook. When all went well, we didn't do anything else except record the time when the phone died. In a couple o f cases, the phones lost the signal and dropped the calls. If we were right there and could redial, we did so immediately an d continued running the test. Otherwise, we halted the test, recharged the battery, and started the test over. Assuming cons istent carrier signal strength, this test should represent best-case talk time. And it's worth noting that several phones' t alk-time performance significantly exceeded the manufacturers' ratings.

To test digital phone standby time, we turned the phone on, established a carrier signal, and left the phone in standby mode . We checked the phone every few hours (for what was often days on end) until the phone finally cut out. Because no outgoingor incoming calls occurred during testing and because the phone was not moved, this method should represent best-case stand by time, again assuming consistent carrier signal strength. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars PLEASE READ!! THIS WILL EXPLAIN LOWER REVIEWS!!
Quick review: ONLY buy this phone if it is hardware version 2.01 or higher. The original hardware version (1.01) is full of bugs and problems, and is NOT worth your money. It's JUNK. The NEW version (2.01) is AWESOME, and you will love it, and get good reception where others are searching for signal. This new phone is by far the best cell phone I've ever owned (no joking), and I've had 15-20 phones at least. The camera is good for a phone built in, the video camera is cool, and I love the unlimited Vision service. The PTT (radio/walkie-talkie) is cool to, but seems overpriced to me, but you don't HAVE to have that service just b/c the phone is ready for it. In all, I have NO COMPLAINTS about this phone. For more explanation, keep reading. If I've already answered you're questions, you can stop reading now. Ok, the first scp-5500 I had was a refurb, sent to me to replace a defect 5300. Keep in mind the scp-5500 and VM-4500 are IDENTICAL, no matter what anyone else says. Here's the main thing to keep in mind when deciding to purchase this phone: the original hardware version (which is usually the silver ones) are loaded with bugs. When I first got my original 5500, it was ok, but gradually got worse and worse reception over time, until it got to the point that I could not get signal unless I hooked up to an external antenna. I was at the point that I hated the phone and was ready to disconnect service with sprint. I had the handset into a sprint store to have it serviced by a sprint technician 3 times within a month, and all they would tell me was that they reflashed the software, and the phone should be better. Never hapened. Even though the phone was under warranty AND I had the additional handset insurance, they would do nothing but order me another REFURBISHED phone. The sprint representative I was dealing with told me they would normally give me a new phone in this case, but they were out of stock. Another customer next to me asked about the EXACT same phone, and it was magically in stock. I finally went to another store, and explained my problems and anger with Sprint in general to a representative there, who had my phone looked at by a sprint technician, and gave me a BRAND NEW PHONE a minute later. The NEW hardware version, 2.01 absolutely ROCKS!! I get signal where others have nothing, the phone has exceptional sound, I cannot complain about this phone at all except for the battery life. I use my cell phone A LOT however, probably much more so than most people, so I have ordered an extended battery. The normal phone user would most likely have no problems with this phone. Bottom line: under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should you buy a phone that is the original hardware version. ONLY get hardware version 2.01 or higher. You WILL love it!! I would highly recommend the holster from a Sprint store (yes, they're $20 instead of $5 at the mall, but they hold the phone much better), the car charger of course, and the data cable. You can hook the phone up to your laptop via the data cable, and if you have the Vision service (which you should), you can surf the 'net for FREE! I LOVE THAT!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally a Phone that Lasts
I purchased this phone up around Dec 2003, and as of Feb 2005 this phone is just as fabulous as it was the first day of purchase! I've had many phones over the years and I never considered myself rough or tough on my cell but somehow after 3-4 months the phone became utterly useless making me regret getting the "deal" phone. You know the phone that just happens to be on sale and is practically the same price as it would take for a pair of movie tickets.

I found with other phones dropped signals grew rampant shortly after purchase, and battery life decreased to about 2 short length phone calls. But with this phone, the standby power lets this phone last up to atleast 2 days full power, so I can actually make phone calls while not at home tied to the base or in the car connected to the charger!

I personally don't feel that I needed a camera or even worse video capabilities with my cell BUT I need a speakerphone. I'm not a fan of headsets, and since it's now against the law (in my area of the country) to drive with a phone in the drivers hand, the speakerphone option is excellent. This cell totally delivers with the speaker, and 90% of the time the person on the other side of the call doesn't even realize that they're on speaker! Plus they can actually understand what you're saying even if you're not close!

Sadly I wish they hadn't discontinued this phone. It's a beautiful phone with the crystal clear screen. Quite a preformer a year later!

The phone has a ton of features and if it worked as it is supposed to, it would be a great phone.I was pulled in by the blue color. However, the phone has major power issues. My first one kept losing power and cutting off as if the battery had been disconnected. The second, a refurbished replacement, would not take a charge...so after two days with that one, I'm off to get a third one. There are cheaper phones that are much more reliable, and that you will be more satisfied with.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Phone so far !!!!
In terms of performance and fun, the Sanyo 4500 is clearly the best phone I have ever owned (so far).
I am the "gadget" type of person who if forced to label my personal "bad habits" I would label the number one habit as being a "tech freak" , I have owned at least 10 cellphones over the past 6 years and the VM4500 is simply the best. This is the 1st phone that I have ever owned that I liked (nearly) everything about it,for the longest I have wanted a phone (since the old motorola startacs) with a loud ringer , my past 3 phones all had terribly low ringers on them (even after trying some of the ringer downloads).I believe the best feature on this phone is the speakerphone , it is a serious convienience to have this feature to simply eliminate having to have the phone up to your head (when put on hold or checking voicemails while driving) and like the other reader stated the speaker phone is nice and loud (no,I do not have a hearing problem :) I simply need the volume louder when in the car to get over the road noise).Personally speaking , I think the dark blue color is awsome !! The battery life is very good although I purchased a slighly heavier aftermarket battery that after frequent usage for several hours had lost only one bar of power. Personally speaking I love using the readylink feature (Sorry Nextel users , I have had both and Sprints is MUCH more user friendy). The camera/Video on the VM45OO I would rate as good to very good (but not excellent) the picture quality is much nicer than my previous Verizon Phone and Sprint's unlimited online storage site is awsome ! Signal quality I would rate as very good to excellent , after 4 months of (Heavy) usage I have had only had 3 dropped calls ,which in my opinion it is just as reliable as the Verizon service that I was previously with for 3 years , I might also add that I have noticed somewhat of a link between people who get a lot of dropped calls and lower priced phones , regardless of the carrier the cheaper phones tend to drop more calls. If I had to list something that I really dont like about this phone I would have to say the location of the earphone jack which is located on the lower left side of the phone (this works against you when you use an earbud and place the phone in your pocket) ,Thats it for now (Ive already got my eye on the MM-7400 by Sanyo) Thanks for reading !

2-0 out of 5 stars Phone Okay, Sprint Not and Combined No Good.
The phone is okay, but for the price it is not. Many phones now a days have similiar feature to this Sanyo VM4500, but alot cheaper with better carriers. My experience with sprint has been terrible.Even with their new investment of improving their network and service, it is pretty much still no good. You hear hissing in the background and the connectivity bars are all misleading. You can have 4 bars and still have it "digitally roam" and the dropped calls are just annoying.I think it's always better to go with Verizon.

2-0 out of 5 stars Root canal is more fun
Wow - hours of frustration trying to get Amazon, AT&T and Cingular to work together! The 1st Blackberry 7280 I received from Amazon was defective - it kept typing Q & A (ironic, isn't it?) whenever I was trying to compose email, dial phone numbers, etc.So I returned it.

The second device has been fine, although the quality of phone calls is much worse than my previous AT&T cell phone (lots of background noise and you have to align the ear speaker exactly perfectly with your ear).Email & battery are great.

But then the real fun started.Shortly after receiving the 2nd Blackberry, Cingular called me & asked if I wanted to migrate to Cingular at no cost. Since I'll probably have to migrate eventually because of the merger, I agreed. Then I found out that to complete the migration, I cannot use my new device, I will have to buy a Cingular device! After talking to about 20 people at Cingular (50% of whom didn't know, and 50% of whom said I would need to purchase a new Blackberry), and talking to AT&T (customer support and retail store), I'm giving up. I have to make another return and reprogram another device. Wish the companies would get together on customer service & the migration.

4-0 out of 5 stars Do I need this hunk of garbage?
I tried to steer clear of using this PDA/phone/email client because I don't like firm attachments to big geeky items. It's just another ball and chain for your company to use.

Actually when I did get this phone I became glued on the email capabilities. Now I don't have to actually call a person I can just drop them an email. If you're in a theater for example you can message them that you're busy. A great thing about the phone is the QWERTY keyboard, I can't type like a regular keyboard but I know the keys well enough to say I can type with my eyes closed.

As for the phone portion, the sound is really clear but the drawback is you have to align your ear to the hole in the phone which can prove annoying. Also the service for AT&T is really bad in some areas which make you struggle on having a decent conversation, another good reason to have email capabilities. The battery life is great, I've managed to talk 2 hours a day for a week and the phone was just half used.

A note in style, the geekier phones tend to be more bulkier and you can feel the weight on your belt or sticking out. What I've come to do is where the clip outside my pocket and just slide theflat phone easily out when I need to make a call. I don't even notice the phone most the time which is a big plus for me. I can be a geek without looking like one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great device. Makes email crunching really easy
I work in silicon valley and get about 150 work related emails and hundreds of SPAM messages every day. My company gave me this blackberry, I call it blueberry bcoz of its color some months back. I forward all my work related emails and filter out SPAM messsages using the online filters provided on the web + my company's SPAM filters. Now when I am travelling, I just keep track of all emails using this. No need to find a wifi location etc. Once you get used to the size, you will love the email + voice convergence. Also the internet access is also quite useful. I can check yahoo email, stock quotes etc from my blueberry.

4-0 out of 5 stars Near perfect, lack of service if breaks irritating
I've had two. The first broke in the warranty period. The connection between the phone and the hands-free broke at the internal connection. It wasn't the hands free headset or hands-free headset connector - it was the phone. I returned it and got a new one. The connection on this one seemed as fragile as the first. Since I work for a construction company I duct-taped the hands-free to the phone, to help avoid the tugging that seemed to destroy the connection within the phone. The second one broke after about 1.5 months. I simply managed to prolong its life with the duct tape, thereby missing out on the warranty period. Since I spend a lot of time on my cell phone for work I really need and appreciate a good hands-free unit. Now I just have to hold the phone to my ear when I talk. Very inconvenient, so I lose those free hands that help me out during work. Anyway, Blackberry has nothing on its site about service for phones that weren't purchased thru the RIM site, and Amazon has no info on reputable service, or any service plans that I noticed. So I guess I'm out of luck. If the hands-free worked it would be the perfect phone/pda. If I could get service it would be almost perfect. But with the fragile hands-free connection, it falls into the almost great, maybe I should have gotten a disposable Nokia instead, category. Phone voice quality is great, and the PDA is good also. I was able to transfer contacts from ACT, and appointments from ACT, but not perform a true sync. I really wish the hands-free connection on the phone was functional.

1-0 out of 5 stars Batteries are not available except thru Siemens at $216 each
Don't bother buying this phone unless you get it cheap! battery replacement is $216 thru Siemens repair depot only. This phone is a real orphan. Talk about a short life cycle!!!
I bought mine 2+ years ago and gave up on the phone portion (GSM coverage was lousy). With all the hype about good coverage I switched from TDMA phone back to GSM. Coverage is still bad. What is worse the battery doesn't hold much of a charge now and can't handle PDA and celular functions. As per the above, Siemens wants $216 to replace it plus a nominal 10 day turn around. AT&T / Cingular wants to know nothing!

3-0 out of 5 stars very useful, but EXTREMELY unstable
Like one of the other reviewers, I also used to carry around my cell phone, my PDA, and my pager. This extremely useful device consolidated all three items into one. I love that part.

The PDA functionality is truly great, and I'm finding it more and more useful every day.

The only downside is that it's more UN-stable than the "crazy" girl I dated in college! :-) This thing reboots itself (generally at very inopportune times) at least once a day.

Many times it stops sync'ing with the PC, and I have to shut the PC off, manually reboot the PDA, switch the USB cableto a different port, and then boot everything back up. It's a major pain.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Phone PDA Combo
I love my sx56, I have taken it everywhere, snowboarding, skydiving, beach, everywhere.Mine has never broken, in fact it is the sturdiest cell phone I've ever owned.Once I upgraded it to the Windows Mobile 2003 OS it was even better. All the cool standard software was great.Plus I added the Microsoft Voice Command software and can make calls to all my outlook contacts by pushing one button and saying "Call so and so home", you don't even have to train or record the voice commands, it does it all by voice recognition!

1-0 out of 5 stars large, heavy, fragile
I bought two of these, one for my wife and one for me.It was so large, heavy, and difficult to use the numbers to dial the phone, my wife didn't like hers. Therefore, when the VERY FRAGILE glass on the screen broke on mine after 5 months, I took hers. The glass broke on the seconed one after 3 months.I was just using it for normal calendar checking and phone calls - nothing rough.Stay away from this phone.BTW, it cost me $100 to purchase and they quoted $300 to repair.ATT doesn't sell them anymore.

2-0 out of 5 stars Great PDA, horrible phone
I've owned this phone for about 18 months and if I hadn't paid so much for it I would have taken a hammer to it long ago.Even in the center of a large town I get lousy signal strength; people can't hear me and I can't hear them. The PDA works well and I bought it so I could carry my calendar and contacts with me and dial them directly with one tap...nice features, well worth the $700+ I paid...IF I could get a signal. Now I have learned this is because this phone doesn't work on the "third" GSM band. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars So far...NOT so good...
I've had this thing for 3 days so far, & spent most of today at the SPRINT PCS service center trying to get this monster working properly! I wish I would've read some of these reviews first! After going through 3 Handspring Treo 600's in 9 months,(No joke! 2 broken ear speakers & 1 bad OS) I thought that this would be a Godsend. After spending the better part of today at the service center, I was told that they would have to send me another phone! I immediately asked if it would be a reconditioned phone, & was told "YES"...but it will still have a SIX month warrantee. My 3 day old phone came with a ONE YEAR WARRANTEE! I said absolutely not!
After much back & forth, I got them to agree to provide with a brand new unit of any manufacturer & price of MY choice when the new line of phones came out
