About the Nokia 6800

The Nokia 6800 is simply a phone made for text input. The basic looking phone hides a full QWERTY keyboard (though obviously with smaller keys than you're used to) under the numeric keypad. Just flip it up and turn the device 90¼ to use the keyboard. Its unique design is only featured on the 6800 series and offers the largest full keyboard of any consumer level mobile phone in the US. The only problem with the keyboard is that because it's quite wide, it's hard to handle with one hand. If you want to jot a text message while walking, you'll have better luck by using predictive text on the numerical keypad. While sitting down, or stationary, the keyboard is very hard to beat.

It's hard to beat the Nokia 6800 keyboard's ease of use.

Besides the hidden keyboard, features of the Nokia 6800 include:

Even though the Nokia 6800 is made for text, it does a great job at voice. Call quality is excellent and dropped calls should be few and far between. It has the standard Nokia series 40 operating system that should be familiar to users of past Nokia models. A joystick in the middle below the screen serves as the main navigation tool. When the keyboard is flipped out it makes using the joystick slightly awkward, since it's to the side of the screen.

The Nokia 6800 ties in very easily with your existing email account and it even supports IMAP which is email technology that keeps email in sync across multiple devices (your phone and computer for instance). It doesn't have fully push email like a BlackBerry, but you can set email to be automatically checked at short intervals. Text and data plans from T-Mobile USA are some of the most affordable in the industry, which is a good thing since you will find yourself using these services a lot.

Like other phones with a built-in radio, the Nokia 6800 uses the wired handsfree unit as an antenna. This means you'll have to plug-in the handsfree before the radio will work, which is a minor inconvenience. The screen is large enough to handle most mobile web content, such as sports scores and weather information. Since the 6800 has GPRS, it downloads data at about the same speed as a dial-up internet connection. Java MIDP 1.0 support is included, so all sorts of applications can be installed. A currency converter, portfolio manager and two games come pre-installed. Custom ring tones can be downloaded in various formats, including MIDI.

The Nokia 6800 weighs 4.3 ounces and measures4.69" x 2.17" x 0.91". It's a little longer than most phones out there, but having a full keyboard more than makes up for it. The lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 4.5 hours of talk time, and up to 10 days of standby time, but the numbers will vary depending on your usage pattern. It's a dual band GSM 800 / GSM 1900 handset.

Excellent basic flip phone
My primary concern is the quality of my voice on the other end of the call. This phone's as close to land-line quality as I've ever heard from a cell phone. Most people don't even realize I'm on a cell. The voice quality at my end is OK, but unremarkable. The KX1 SoHo is a little smaller than most and the display is also a little small but the resolution and brightness are both very good. Signal strength is good, at one point on my ferry commute, when I see other people give up on a call, I have 3 bars. Battery life seems as good claimed, 1 week stand-by and 2 1/2 hours talk. Great tiny phone; just one problem.
This is a tiny phone; it fits in a pocket very well. The sound quality is great, and people can hear me well. The "Shorty" is a great little phone (with the exception of the screen--it's difficult to read the time of day display). I particularly like the loudspeaker feature, which enables me to put the phone down next to me while driving and hear and be heard well.It's easy to navigate through all the features, although it might be more difficult for someone with bigger fingers; I use my thumbnail to push the buttons.Easy to find out my balance, too.I just use the phone for making and receiving calls and not for the downloadable features and games, so I haven't tried all those.The existing ringtones are I suspect aimed at a younger crowd--they sound kind of hip hop.They also sound kind of tinny.But, as I said, I'm using it mainly for a low-use phone; so this didn't discourage me.

What did discourage me was the one little problem:My particular phone has a little problem of powering off on its own without warning every few days--even with a full battery charge. So I'm walking around with a phone that is not on thinking I can receive emergency calls when actually I can't, because it has spontaneously turned itself off. Nothing I do gets it to turn back on.It is just dead. I figured out I just remove the battery and put it back in (which the trouble shooting page on the nokiausa website confirmed), and this enables me to turn it back on. I find this unacceptable in a phone and am returning it. Virgin Mobile customer service was kind and polite and offered to give me a new "Shorty," but I declined, because I found the minutes disappearing too fast with the Virgin Mobile prepaid plan.I believe, because they start counting off your time the second you push send when you make a call.So, you are paying for the 15 or 20 seconds it takes your party's voice mail to connect AND the message you leave on his or her voicemail.This adds up.Had I not been unimpressed with the Virgin Mobile plan, I probably would have taken them up on the replacement offer, because I really like the phone.

This super compact phone is great!, It is not a sophisticated model, great for people who needs just a phone. Although it's quality is great, and has many features I didn't expect it to have such as the loudspeaker (and more things), which works great! I love the phone, it's compact I can carry it on my pockets, lightweight and doesn't look cheap; also the service at virgin is much better than tracfone, I am glad I switched, cause their phones are crap too.

A Classic!!
This phone is the gold stardard to which I compare all cell phones. It is a lot better than even other phones in the moto V60 series. The V60t is highly customizable, not foring its user to use the backgrounds provided. I make most of my calls using the recent calls list that the phone stores, and I like how I can create a button on the main screen that links directly to the recent calls menu. Plenty of call statistics with the call timers. Sound quality is excellent and the phone is the perfect size for pocket carrying. This phone is truely a utilitarian masterpiece in a world of complicated phones with too many bells and whistles and too little overall quality.

Motorola's flagship TDMA flip-phone gets some color
Motorola's second-generation version of their flagship V60 flip-phone continues to prove itself a worthy successor to the industry redefining StarTAC. Those who've yet to jump on the GSM bandwagon will find the V60 to be a solid performer, with a feature set that may not match the bells-and-whistles of GSM phones, but is eminently useful. Perhaps best of all, unlike GSM phones, the TDMA-based V60 retains the ability to fallback to analog (AMPS) service when digital can't be found. This will become less of a differentiator as cellular providers build out their GSM networks, but at this time it can still help you find useable service outside big cities and off major transportation routes.

The original V60 replaced the incredibly popular StarTAC. At about the same thickness (though more uniformly from end to end) and a bit narrower, the V60 was a stylish follow-up. In addition to improved battery life, the V60 added programmable ringtones, voice dialing, and several other useful improvements. The signal and voice quality duplicated or improved upon those of the StarTAC, and the flip-phone form-factor continued to prove more comfortable for handset use than candy-bar styled phones.

The V60 Color retains the advantages of the original V60, and adds a few tweaks. The inside color display is both an improvement (for its greater display capabilities) and a distraction (for its difficulty in viewing under strong sunlight). The external display has been enlarged, which on the one hand allows it to display additional information (signal strength, digial/analog service, battery charge), while on the other reduced the size of the date and time display. The V60 Color's voice dialing now has two modes: the name mode of the original V60, in which you can recall entries in your phone book with a voice tag, as well as digit dialing, in which you can dial 7- 10 and 11-digit phone number by speaking the digits. The latter is particularly handy, though it means that voice dialing now takes an extra step while you ask for either Name or Digit dialing.

Downsides of the V60 Color are mostly the same as the V60. The fixed external antenna can poke you in the side if you carry the phone on your belt. The belt clip that's included with the phone is useable, but not necessarily the most comfortable (the thin Body Glove case, for example has a much more tractable clip). Motorola's menu system isn't always intuitive, and the single-voiced ringtones (no polyphonics, no MP3s) are dull.

If you need a camera, advanced ringtones, Internet browsing or the other bells and whistles of GSM, this is not the phone for you. If you're looking for a stylish, solidly performing TDMA phone with AMPS capability, this is a great pick.

Amazon is great.. phone is great, just say away from AT&T
WARNING: AT&T representatives ("Dawn: R361" and "Max: N360") themselves said during my troubleshooting (as detailed below) that I should NOT have bought through Amazon, and that they have received a barrage of complaints from Amazon buyers!I still really like Amazon, but they're integration with AT&T is non existent.People should not have to wait 2-3 days for service after they receive the phone.Buy the same phone on Amazon, but a different carrier.

this phone surprized me becuz i am more of a nokia person but i like the cool and sleek looks of the motorola V60 color screen. this phone is awesome. its so small and compact, i have had 3 people buy this phone becuz they seen mine and they liked it. if you want a good phone but you dont have alot of money , i suggest you buy the motorola V60 color screen by att wireless ( it has awesome coverage!)

The Motorola V6O is a great line of phones. They look incredibly sophisticated with the shiny case and all. The color version is great. I just got it and the phone is wonderful. generally happy
I've had this phone for about a week now. I've recharged it twice, battery life seems to last a few days, less if I use the phone alot. The PCS Vision features are really nice. I have my email forwarded to my phone for certain people I need to get back to right away. My only complaint is that during calls, the people on the other say I'm breaking up sometimes so I would say call quality is not as good as my old A460 (the screen died on that one which I hear is a common problem). I gave the A760 four stars because of all the features but if I had to rate on call quality alone I'd only give it three. I'm leaning towards keeping it because of the other features but may also see what other phones are out there before my 14 days are up. ... Read more

I have been using this phone for almost a year now.

Pros:
1.Looks sleek

1.Bad reception (as compared to Nokia phones. My fone wouldnt work whereas friend's Nokia would work at the same location)

Hey, not so bad
I got this phone for -$200 about a year ago, so I was willing to forgive a lot of problems.It actually turned out to be a decent phone.

Pros:

1.Bluetooth with wireless Jabra headset, syncs up nicely with my Mac.I'll never go back to using a phone without the wireless headset.

2.Intruitive, computer-like interface

3.Good vibrate function

4.Nice long battery life

5.Works pretty much everywhere these days, including travel abroad.Reception started good and got better after a CSR fiddled with it at the mall.

6.Addictive mini golf game.

Cons:

1.When it's sunny outside, it can be VERY difficult to see the phone.You need to retreat into the shade or try to decipher the glare.

2.Certain functions are buried in menus.If you want to get rid of the envelope from a voice mail, you need to go through 8 menus to get there.I'm also forgetting the 18 menus you need to set a speed dial, for example.

3.Reception certainly not as good as Verizon, for the most part, but they charge through the nose, too.It's a trade-off.

4.Quiet ringer.I keep the ringer at maximum, but I still can't hear it if I'm out of the room.

Overall, it was a good choice, especially considering they bought me four months worth of service for the year.

Sony Ericsson T610: great design, bad reception.
First of all, I've used Sony Ericsson T610 with both Cingular and T-Mobile service and found them comparable in Los Angeles (Verizon is best here).From comparing all three phones (Nokia 6230, Sony Ericsson T610, and Motorola V551) with Cingular service, I've discovered that there is a *BIG* difference in phone reception quality.

Phone reception quality is as follows: Nokia 6230 > Motorola V551 >> Sony Ericsson T610. The Sony Ericsson T610 had no reception in my apartment, the Nokia 6230 has great reception everywhere.

Overall phone quality: Nokia 6230 > Sony Ericsson T610 >> Motorola V551. (Though if reception is most important, you might rank Motorola V551 over SE T610.)

Here are pros/cons of Sony Ericsson T610:

PROS:
-Bluetooth: easy to sync contacts, photos, etc. w/PC, no additional software required => great.
-Great battery life
-Great display resolution, better than Nokia 6230.
-Nice OS design: easy to navigate, easy to read menus, ex. "silent" is handy
-Small, sleek, cool-looking, phone
CONS:
-Bad reception!
-Phone freezes sometimes.If turning on/off doesn't fix, try removing (and then re-inserting :) battery.
-Sometimes keylock doesn't work and phone calls contacts.

I recommend this phone if you have a good service provider for your area.It is cheap and easy to use. (Though, be wary of service providers locking the bluetooth.This hasn't happened to anyone I know, but I've heard that it's been a problem.)If I had reception in my apartment, I would have kept the T610 and sold the new Nokia 6230 on ebay.

Good triband phone with decent batery life
I've been using this phone from the past one year. Like any other phone this phone is also not perfect, but hey I got all I wanted from my T610, it never disappointed me.

What I like :

1. Tri-Band :: Many people think that any tri-band phobe can be used overseas. Not true!. Because 900/1800 MHz GSM is standard. With support to 900/1800/1900 MHz T610 is a true world phone.

2. Battery Life :: Very good battery life - one week without charging for me. I generally charge only during weekends.

3. Reception :: Very good reception even in basement. This depends on your location too. Occasionally, between cities on the highway you may notice black spots for 5-10 mins. - Noticed it only once though.

4. Look & Feel :: Very handy and looks little geeky :)

5. Bluetooth :: Nice add-on. I love my Jabra headset.

What I didn't like

1. Sluggish Java :: Performance of Java is very sluggish. Loading of games can take 20-30 secs. (At first I thought I've to reboot)

2. Camera :: Not worth mentioning. Very poor image quality. (What else can you expect from a < mega pixel camera).

3. Memory :: Very limited memory and no expansion slot :(

4. Voice Dialing :: Doesn't work very well. Agreed, comes handy while driving. Make sure to roll up all your windows and turn off radio.

5. Joystick :: Not real joy operating it.

Overall, I think it is a good buy. Esp if you are looking for a good true world phone with nice battery life.

cute phone - bad hardware and really bad customer support
This phone completely froze on me after exactly a month after the warranty expired (1 year from purchase)and now reboots regularly at intervals of 10 minutes.
I called customer support at t-mobile who couln't help in anyway except making me do a master reset and and I lost all my data.The phone still freezes and regularly reboots on me - I guess I can use it as a paperweight now.
The entire time the phone actually worked the T-Mobile service sucked BIG TIME

The only reason I'm giving it a one star is because thats the lowest I can get.

i previously had the 4900 model. that was sooooo much better! the reception w this phone stinks, and that's being polite. my husband had gotten a refurb when his 4900's screen cracked. it stunk. the ppl at sprint thought that was odd since it's supposed to me sooo top rated n awesome. yeah. well he was so very very wrong. i wish i had my old 4900 back! in my office i had 4 bars w the antenna down. now im at 2 w the antenna up. i drop calls a lot [practically never w my 4900] and i have a hard time hearing out of it. the only good thing i found on this phone is the volume choices-- silent, vibrate, beep, 1, 2, 2=vib, 3, 4, and 4+vib. level 4 is perfect if youre half deaf or work somewhere thats really noisy. 2+vib is good for normal hearing people in a normal sitch. these volume options are the only reason it even got the 1 lonely little star. i wish i had known for certain otherwise i would have never have traded in my old phone for this supposedly "newer and better" model. hope this helped you. i found this stuff out through trial and unfortunately, error, on my part. i have bought my phones through our local sprint store.

Excellent Phone
Bought this phone in January and boy am I impressed! The battery life is excellent as well as the speakerphone.This would be my 4th Sprint Phone since 1999 and overall the best of the bunch.My only gripes are that this phone lacks a camera, and the color screen is hard to view in bright sunlight.But this seems to be a problem with all these color gadgets these days.This is yet one reason why my GPS will remain in monochrome.Maybe one day companies will get color mastered, and devices will be viewable in the bright sun.But so far nothing beats monochrome for this.

Nice design, battery life...horrible speakerphone feature
I've been a big Sanyo fan for some time (of the options provided by Sprint).Great battery life and consistently strong reception on digital and analog roaming situations.I was excited to get this one as a replacement to my dead 4900.

I love the size, keypad, battery, etc.What is the deal with the speakerphone?I can't hear anything on it...all garbled.With all the speakerphones I've seen lately, none of them match a Nokia that I had YEARS ago!

What's the deal?

Worthy Successor to the 4900
For the last two years, I've carried a Sanyo 4900, which has been well known as being the best phone available for Sprint PCS users, with it's unmatched reception strength and lengthy battery life. I'd still be carrying mine except for an unfortunate incident with a washing machine. This phone, the 4920, follows up and improves upon that tradition.

The reception is just as good as the 4900, and the battery life, if anything, is better. The USB cable I bought at Radio Shack still allows me access to the Internet from my Powerbook, and I can still use my old chargers.

In addition, the phone is slightly smaller, and the new screen and GUI is much prettier with more vibrant and lifelike colors. Navigation is faster, web browsing is faster, and it's packed with nice little features like showing the state of origin of an incoming call.

So, if you are a 4900 user like me, and are worried about ever getting a better phone, and don't need it to take pictures or other non-phone nonsense, then this is your next phone.

Great reception
This is my first review on anything.I have had this phone for a few days now and still learning it.But one thing that stands out right away is the reception.When I drive to university from home, there is a strip where on my Nokia had no reception, a DEAD spot.With this phone, I have reception the entire area.It is also more clear with voices that were garbled on my Nokia.

I need to know how to create folders for my address book, I had folders on my Nokia so I didn't have to scroll through ALL the contacts list.I can't find that on my Sanyo.

Elegant, Durable, and Powerful
After doing my bit of research and reading a couple reviews on the Nokia 7610, I decided to get this phone with my new plan. My previous phone was a Samsung e715, which was good for the first 6 months before the screen turned washed out looking. For my second phone, I wanted something that could handle more functions, was more customizable, and could expand with my needs. Basically, I wanted something between all the other cell phones and a full fledged PDA. The Nokia 7610 was perfect because it had the good build quality that Nokia stands for but also uses the Symbian 60 v7.0 operating system. It is essentially a smartphone. People who are looking at this phone have to realize that it is not intended for people who want to use it for one reason only. This phone comes with a 1.2MP camera/videocamera, Bluetooth, speakerphone, a mini MMC expansion slot (with 64mb card included), and one of the best LCD screens around. In addition, a USB cable is included, so you can download programs, mp3s, themes, ringtones and send them to your phone. Tactile response is pretty good. Actually, I'd say it was a little "too" good since the buttons might seem to give a noisy "click" sound to some people. But hey, at least they're not mushy and hard to press. The speed of the operating system is pretty good as well. I heard that the Nokia 6600 seiries phones had lagging problems when turning on the phone or opening programs. It seems this problem has been fixed in the updated OS here. Overall, I'd say this is close to the most perfect phone I could imagine.

Incredible Service, Awesome Features
Let me first start by talking about service. I have seen many reviews that complained about service or more often the customer service of a carrier. Customer service is unrelated to the phone itself, but service is not...The reception this phone gets is incredible. Wherever I go I always have full-service reception. My buddy placed his Nokia 3620 real near my 7610 (both ATT Cingular), to gauge how much of a difference the phone really makes in reception,and I had 3 more bars!!This is a new generation smart phone vs. another (older gen) smart phone, too, not comparing CZ to diamonds.

Now to move on to features. This phone has everything you could want. The to-do list and calendar features are very in-depth and useful. Combined with Nokia PCSuite and the cable driver from the Nokia website, you can seamlessly transfer files back and forth between your PC/laptop and your phone. I am like a kid in a candy shop with this feature and am working on assigning a different mp3 for all of my friends and family! Sound comes through much clearer on this, playing true MP3s, not MP3s converted to WAVs like on the 3620. Only drawback is that Cingular does not recognize that this phone has the feature in my area, probably because (as the local cell phone shops said) it is 'not available in the Colorado market.' I have no desire to pay $2.49 per ringtone from them anyways, so this is not a problem for me and I doubt the rest of you are inclined to either.This phone also has the capability to record up to 10 MINUTES of video! All I can say to that is WOW. I have not ventured anywhere near that length (1-2 minutes is all so far) but the quality of the video is incredible, especially considering the source (a phone).This is also a Bluetooth phone, so you can do all the things Bluetooth does.I have only transferred files via Bluetooth, but the process was slow, most likely due to the older OS of the receiving phone.The Symbian OS on this phone is just plain fast, no lag whatsoever, runs seemlessly. The 64MB card that is included with the phone is also great, but fills up fast when you are uploading mid and high quality MP3s at 4-5 MB or more per. Would have been nice if they had included a card with more, but for $199 I am only being wishful bordering on greedy.I would defientely call this phone a serious deal and highly reccomend purchasing it.Get this phone, two bills, letstalk clearer. ... Nokia 3590 GoPhone
This phone has been pretty good.It was a great deal at Best Buy because it came with a mail-in rebate and they always pay their rebates quickly. I've had it for a year and half and now the ringer has died and I can't hear it when it rings.The ringer itself costs $150 to order so I might as well get a new phone.

Great phone!
Traded my old phone in for this phone over a year ago.It's been dropped and tossed around in the purse and is still doing well.The polyphonic ring tones are great and pretty cheap to download, it's fun for knowing who's calling just by the ring. The games are ok that came with it.But with Internet access from your phone (with mMode) you can play online or download new ones for later.The only thing that bummed me was, right after I got it they started putting phones in the same price range with color screens!That's what I'm looking into now.But if you don't mind that it's not in color the calendar (which you can update online with mMode), applications, games, talk time, and stand-by time are great.No real complaints with it.

dissatisfied customer
I bought 2 of these phones in december 2003. My plan was 39.99 a month on each phone, unlimited nights and weekends,free holidays. Since this time they no longer have this plan nor these phones, however i liked the phones so much that in march of this year i bought another phoneand plan for myself, the other two are used by other family members. I pay about 150$ a month for all of these plans. However this memorial day I was charged all day on all phones for their usage. AT&T told me on monday the 31st of may that memorial day was included to be free however on wednesday the 2nd of june i called customer service and they told me that i was MISINFORMED by their rep. I have a brochure stating that memorial day is included in this past plan that no longer exists however they have without informing me changed my plan to satisfy theirs now. I will NEVER again get AT&T anything. BUYERS BEWARE. they stole from me and have also received now a bad reputation. And one more thing.. I have been an excellent customer..always paid my bills to them on the date they were due and used my phones discretley as possible.Like I say they receive at least $150 to possibly 200 dollars a month from me because we have always liked the phones and they have worked for us. I think they owe us money for memorial day and an apology. I will continue to spread this around so they will continue to lose customers. THEY ARE WRONG.

Cool toy
Okay, I'll admit, there are some significant shortcomings for this phone, ie, no 3rd party text messaging, 3rd party email, etc.
These things cost $30 to $50 to purchase.I got the SnapperMail download, they have a 30 day free trial.But be aware that once you decide to purchase it, you must purchase the Premiere edition or higher for it to work. Overall though, really cool phone. The PDA portion of it is very nice.

PDA but no Communications
Slow Inet Acess. Can read emails, but no way to respond. Simply a contact DBase. Inet is slow. Buy a Treo. Sprint sucks w/ this technology. Tried so many times to make this work. If you have nothing to do, give another try......As always you might get moisture damage...

When I put this site together, I thought that part of the goal for any aspiring bad ass was to find those must have things in life: love, liberty, and cool stuff. In the spirit of this pursuit, I present to you a pretty remarkable piece of technology that I have come to love (and detest) for variety of reasons.

The single best quality of this phone is that it marries a phone with the full blow Palm OS 4.1 Palm's latest and greatest OS is up to 5 and soon around the corner probably 6. But Palm 4 still continues to be the dominant OS of the PDA market (I could be wrong on this, but I don't think Windows CE is quite there yet, and Blackberry is well.. that's another story). Essentially, this PDA allows you download and install from a collection of thousands of software titles. Check out Palm Gear). If you ever wonder if there is something you wish you could use to track, organize, reference, play with, learn from, at a bus stop on cold winter day, you can be assured someone's already thought of it and made it available at Palm Gear.

"My Treo 600 also does that, what's the big deal?"

What Treo users, and essentially all other PDA/Phone users can't do, is look good using their PDA's. "Form factor" is the term given to a device's design, and how much space it takes to be a functional piece of equipment. The Samsung i500 has the single best form factor of all other PhonePDA's. Most of the PhonePDA's on the market look like heavy soap bars, some of them like the Treo's have a tiny keyboards mashed in, with badly beveled buttons that require some getting use to.

Samsung's i500 does away with all this and leaves a simple writing area that you use a Palm style (also snuggly available on the phone) to write into the system. This is not for heavy email users! If you need to send emails/messages back to the office on daily basis, you'll probably need some more functional than aesthetically pleasing.

But this Phone/PDA rocks, looks good, and is an easy conversation piece at the bar. Never mind the fact that it has a stylus that doubles as a pen.

Inside Scoop:

This phone is offered by Sprint for and astounding rate of $500 new. You'll be able to find it on ebay for around $200-$300 depending on how used it is, what accessories come with it, and if it fell off a truck in Jersey or not. My recommendation is to pick one of them up from ebay. This phone is constructed very well, and I have dropped and it has survived couple times already without any protection.

The Dark Side:

Sprint. By far and away, Sprint continues to be a promoter of pioneering technologies, at the same time, crippling them of the basics. The single largest issue with this phone is that SMS messing service that Sprint has neglected in providing. In order to actually use the SMS system on this device, you need to purchase and install i500SMS v0.31. According to some users groups, you can call Sprint, complain and have them purchase the software for you (check out PDAPhoneHome)

Still, anyone SMS messaging you, better enter their name or initials to the message, because unless they are on the Sprint network, you will not be able to know what phone sent you that message. This is just one of those things where the rest of the world seems to have a good grip on, and we in the U.S., the greatest country in the world, are still struggling to figure out how to deliver it. Technology does move like molasses sometimes.

We still thing is the a pretty cool phone, despite it's short comings.

firmware issue
This is a great phone, and other reviewers have covered most of the topics, so I'll just mention one thing.The phones are still being sold with the old firmware.There is a major bug in the firmware, which will hang the sprint vision connection, requiring a manual disconnect from the data service or often a power recycle.This make the otherwise fabulous wirelss email sync (which pushes the email to your phone like blackberry) useless.

Most sprint stores don't know how to do a firmware upgrade on this phone, or they don't have the cable.So don't count on being able to upgrade, most people can't.

Great phone/Palm combo -- almost everything I wanted!
I sorely needed a new phone to replace my trusty StarTac and my aging Palm V, but delayed doing so for a couple of years because I just didn't see anything out there that I thought would combine their functions effectively.I wanted a clamshell phone that wouldn't accidentally dial people from inside my bag.And the Treo phones and other stick-style smartphones just seemed too big.Although I'm fine with a thumb-board (I carry a RIM for work), I prefer Graffiti, so I wanted a phone that allowed me to input using Graffiti.I tried out my husband's Treo 300 and frankly missed the Graffiti functions.I also thought it was too clunky.I've found that the i500 is almost everything I wanted out of a Palm/phone combo.

The pros:Sleek clamshell design -- compact and stylish, even with the hefty extended-use battery.It's solidly built -- no flimsy flips like the Treo 300.The screen is surprisingly big for such a small phone.The color and resolution is quite good -- the photos I keep on my phone look good.I like the Graffiti writing space -- it's small, but easy to get used to.The Palm functions are well integrated.It's easy to call people from your address book, and it's easy to save phone numbers (like from incoming calls) into new or existing entries.With the extended battery, I can go for a few days without having to charge up -- even the slim battery gets decent performance.The cradle offers one-button syncing, and can charge a spare battery at the same time as the phone -- a nice touch.Using hacks easily found online, you can put just about any photo on your screen as your wallpaper.You can also set unique rings for different people (no photo ID, though).

The cons:No speakerphone!This is a really strange feature to leave out, since it makes it hard to use the Palm at the same time as the phone.You can always use a headset, but that's just another step you shouldn't have to take.I also think it would be nice to have a caller ID screen on the outside of the phone so you don't have to flip open the phone to see who's calling.And I miss the dual-function keys on the StarTac -- functions you can easily access just by pushing "FNC" and then one of the numeric keys.I used to be able to switch the phone to vibrate by hitting two keys -- now I need to ratchet down the ringer, which can take up to 10 button presses, depending on how loud you have your ringer volume cranked.I also used to be able to mute my phone easily using the FNC button -- I have no clue how to do it on the i500, but it's certainly not a one-button thing.The screen is sometimes hard to read outside in the sun.Minor quibble -- there's apparently no way to add to the polyphonic ringtones supplied with the phone.There are plenty of options, to be sure, but it would have been nice to be able to add to them to truly personalize the phone.

On the high price -- I bought the phone used, which brought the price down significantly for me.Would I have paid the full retail price?Maybe, especially since I probably would have paid more to buy a new Palm and a new phone.At the deeply discounted price, however, I definitely got my money's worth. ... Unnecessarily complex!
I was really excited about getting this phone especially since I'm not happy using a flip phone.Sadly, trying to figure out this phone is almost impossible.Common things like Address Book seem to be buried under several layers of menu.It's weirdly complex to try and figure out how to work it.In addition, it shut itself off in the middle of calls.I'm returning mine.

A- performance but complicated
I have use so many cel phone brands. LG is the best so far. This siemens phone has all features you can imagine. However, the built-in speaker isn't lond enough. There are also some operating difficulties as well. I have to carry the manual around in the first week. Usually, with other brands, you can just play with the phone and go from there. For example, when using speed dial, firstly you have to push 5 and hold, the speed dial list shows up, then push the speed dial number you assigned. Unfortunately, the manual which comes in its box isn't the most recently released. This phone does everything EXCEPT making phone calls!
I had this phone with AT&T service for 5 months, and that was the worst experience ever. Since the day I received the phone, it NEVER worked well. Not only the reception is bad enough, it drops calls no matter where I go in almost all the calls I made! Sometimes this happened 4 or 5 times in 10 minutes. Even my friends got sick about the phone. AT&T has sent me a new phone and another SIM card, but it never solved the problem. I do not deny that the phone looks very neat and has a lot of good features including a built-in video camera. But, I can buy a video camera instead, why do I need a cellphone if I cannot even use it to make phone calls?

this phone sucks
I have gone thru two of these phones. The first phone had some sort of a short and lost data such as ringtones & games. That money went down the toilet.AT&T agreed to replace it with a refurbished phone, that means another E316 that somebody had a problem with. This one is worse. I have again lost data and also stored phone books numbers randomly.Now I have to deal with Cingular. AT&T does not make anymore new phones so I can get another refurbished piece of crap or migrate to Cingular and loose my AT&T unlimited minute special. Thanks a lot

Great phone despite the novelties
I just got the e316 over a month ago and have yet to have a single problem with it. My last phone, a Samsung a460 was horrible, with lousy reception, and an unreliable screen that was prone to breaking if exposed to cold temperatures (a problem sometimes in the winter) or just ordinary use, not to mention a horrible battery.

However, the e316 gets reception everywhere I go, including some friend's basements that are notorious for bad reception. The ring tone volume (at the maximum) is noticebly louder than past phones I've had and can be easily heard from in your pocket even in crowded areas.

I've read reviews where people said the sound quality was questionable, but I've had no problems, and found it clearer than most other phones I've had or used.

It has lots of customizable features. It can utilize animated wallpapers and ring tunes that sound like actual songs (as in closer to mp3-like quality as opposed to just tones). The downside is that this seems to still be relatively new and so finding decent selections of either the animated wallpapers or the better ring tones (which seem to be called "real tones/tunes") can be difficult.

The phone also comes with one game, "fun2link", which is similar to the Windows puzzle game "Pipe Dream", where you use pieces of pipe to complete a circuit for liquid to go through within a time limit. You can download other games though.

The camera is what you would expect from a camera phone, in that the pictures are often grainy and over/under exposed (although the phone does have many different camera settings to help with this problem). If you want digital pictures, get a digital camera, however a good feature is that you can take pictures of people and "attach" it to the phone numbers in your phone book so that when they call their picture (or whatever image you assigned to them) will appear in the external screen of the phone.

Overall, I highly recommend the phone, although here in Canada with Rogers Wireless the price of $99.99 (CAN$) with a 3-year deal is pretty high. I was able to get the phone for less and on a 2-year plan and its a much better deal.

Good small phone packed with features.
I picked up this phone and was actually suprised how small it is. It is extremely customizable too.

I bought it with AT&T and was worried that I wouldn't be able to use it after the merger with Cingular, so I took it down to the local cell phone shop and paid them fifteen bucks to unlock it. Now it works with sim cards from ATT and Cingular and anyone else that uses the same frequencies.

Poor quality !!
I have had the Sanyo 8100 phone from Sprint for about 14 months. After my phone got to be about a year old, it's been slowly breaking despite much care on my part.I have not dropped the phone or done anything else to warrant all the damage.The hinge to flip open the phone has completely broken -first just one side broke and pretty soon the entire thing broke.Then just yesterday the display completely stopped working as well.According to Sprint, I am not eligible for a new phone for another 3-4 months so now I am going to be forced to spend about $200 just to get a new phone that will probably just break after a year. I'm completely dissatisfied.This is the first phone I've had that has been so cheaply made.

Good Phone W/Weak Battery
This is my second 8100 (1st one died as I left it in the washer) but to this date, this is the best Sprint PCS phone that I have used.This was recommended to me by the salesman at the Sprint store over a year ago.Here is the quick list:
Pros:
1)Signal:Rarely do I ever experience any drop calls with this phone compared to my last 2 Samsungs.
2)Display:Very clear and vibrant.
3)Quality:As soon as you pick up the phone you feel the quality that it is made.It does not have the Cheap feel on some of the Nokia and Samsung phones.My first one was made in Japan and this one is from Malaysia.Sanyo just makes quality phones.

Dislikes
1)Battery Life:The standard battery is weak.It rarely lasted more than 2 days when it was brand new and now its about 1 day for me.And I have 2 batteries.I purchased an extended battery on Ebay for about $10 and it works great.
2) Poor camera under low light:But what do you expect with a cell phone right?

Overall, its a nice phone I only wish Sprint would carry more Sanyos and Motorolas and stop carrying the terrible Nokias and Samsungs.

I love this Phone, Just one small issue...
Almost all that needs to be said has already. Let me just say that I love this phone. Of all the cells I've owned, this Sanyo has the best reception, and quality of any of them. Of those were 2 Nokia, and one Keyocera.The only issue I have with it, is in low light situations, (read...night-time...) the number keypad is very low lit, and extremely hard to see. This certianly doesn't take away from the greatness of the phone, just a small irritation during 8 hours of the 24 in a day.

This phone SUCKS!!!!!!!!
I live 20 minutes outside of San Francisco, my boyfriend and several other of my friends have not been able to get a hold of me by my cell phone. I have had so many dropped calls and sprint over charges for going over your minutes. I recommend you do not buy this phone or sign-up with Sprint.

Finally a Phone I haven't had a problem with!
I went through about 5 phones within a 4 month period always some kind of problem. Until I upgraded to the Sanyo 8100 which Im shocked to have now had it for longer than a year. good phone
i do not own this phone but my best friend does and i use it alllll the time. the big prb. is that she has a LOT of droped calls, i will be talking to her and then she will not be there!! It gets really anoying! We take pics of EVERYTHING, the camera is really good, does not have a light, witch is bad sometimes because u can not take pics in low light. Allso if u move to fast after taking the pic it will show up dif.,like when you are loking at it in the pic menu and then close up on it it is two dif. pics. My friend has had to take her phone to get fixed a lot because the pic ID was not working(it still is not working). But besides the droped calls and the problems with the camera it is a great phone!!

ALWAYS RELIABLE
I have owned this phone for about a year now and have never had any trouble with it as described by some of the other owners. I might add that I take very good care of everything I own. I have never dropped it or otherwise mistreated it. I recently purchased a V3 simply because I like the larger width, but the problem with the V3 is that there is no "Fast Forward" device that is designed to use with it. The V400 uses the "Fast Forward" which saves me a ton of cell minutes by forwarding my cell to my home phone number. I would really love to have this feature for the V3, but so far, I have been unable to do so. I still think in the long run, the V400 will outlast and outperform the V3, so I'm keeping it as a backup. It has never let me down and is sturdy to boot!

Phone is good until earpiece dies
I have had this phone for about ~1 year. Recently I have only barely been able to hear the person I am talking to on the phone. At first I attributed this to maybe a bad connection, but then I found out a friend was having similar problems.I looked on the internet and found people were having similar problems.This phone is WORTHLESS, it can have all the features in the world but if you cant hear the person you are talking to what is the point.

I recommend not buying this phone.If you are looking to buy another motorola I would check to make sure that it doesnt have similar earpiece problems.

Price too high here, phone OK
I really like my phone. I've had it for nearly a year. Well anyway, I've had 3 of them, that is. The first one decided that it suddenly wanted to work on speakerphone only so the girls in the dorm nextdoor could hear my mom crystal clear. So I called Cingular for a replacement and got it. Wretched machine, it died when it said fully charged 2 days after I got it. So I called them up yet again for another replacement. The sales rep. was rather bewildered but I did infact send it off. In fact, as an apology of sorts, they sent it on priority mail with no extra charge to me, so I got it the next day rather than in a week and a half. I'm hooked on Cingular's service and this new phone also has a year warranty for any manufacturing glitches.

That being said, this third one is working like a charm. The reception is pretty good and I love the features. Oooo, better yet, I realized that it also works in select areas of Mexico so when I go there with my church, Mom can call me w/o having to risk getting someone who doesn't speak English. (...)

Bad Phone
my husband had not one, but two of these phones in less than a year and they were both lemons!The first one he had, the person on the other end could not hear you talking at all - it was like no one was there!The phone was brand new! He had it replaced with the same phone and this one you could not hear anything on it!He finally sent it back and just got a totally different brand of phone entirely.I don't know if we just got two bad phones or if this phone is just not a good phone.Either way, we'll never have another one!!! ... Overview

Compatible with AT&T cell phone service, the Nokia 6820 is one of Nokia's series of phones featuring a cleverly-designed flip-open QWERTY keyboard, intended to provide quicker and easier text input. When the keyboard is in use, the 6820's high-resolution 128 x 128-pixel, 4,096 color screen automatically rotates from a vertical to a horizontal orientation for easier viewing. There are also a bunch of other great features with this phone, including a digital CIF camera and video recorder, Bluetooth infrared data transfer, voice dialing, mobile Internet connectivity, high-speed data transmission, and more.

Calling Features

Used simply as a phone, the 6820 features a 4-way joystick for easy navigation to a variety of calling features, including voice dialing for up to 10 numbers, voice commands for up to 9 items, integrated handsfree speakerphone, and the ability to record and send memos, conversations, and sound clips (up to 90 seconds). You'll also get the usual array of polyphonic ring tones, calling modes (including vibrate) and much more. Nokia also supports TTY/TDD (Telecommunication Device for the Deaf), and hearing aid support for the Nokia LPS-3 Loopset, (adapter and Loopset sold separately).

Messaging and Internet

The phone's snappy new design makes it ideal for messaging; you can actually type on the QWERTY keyboard, no more hunting and pecking through the ten key system. In addition to text and picture messaging, you can also send up to four linked messages with up to 160 characters each, and take advantage of distribution lists and predictive text input. The 6820's XHTML browser provides high-speed data transmission via GPRS or EDGE, and access to work and private POP3 and IMAP4 email accounts. You can also send MMS (multimedia messaging service) packets containing combined image, video, text, and voice clips to compatible phones or PCs. To expand your phone's functionality, you can download additional Java applications to add to the ones already included with the phone: E-mail Client, Instant Messaging, Converter, World Clock, and Portfolio Manager, among others.

Organizer

The Nokia 6820's organizer features include a 3,000 character notepad function (now easy to use with the flip out keyboard), as well as the usual phone book with up to 500 contacts, a full calendar, and a to-do list with priority levels, among others. You can also sync up your organizer data with your PC wirelessly via your Bluetooth connection, using the included software (Sync ML or Nokia PC).

Cameras, Fun, and Games

An integrated CIF digital camera lets you take 352 x 288 pixel photos, which you can view on the phone's 4,096 color display, or send to your computer or via MMS to a friend, using the XHTML internet connection. The camera provides night shooting mode, a self-timer feature, and a video clip recorder. Additionally, you can add thumbnail-sized photo images to contacts in your phone book, change your graphical user interface with a variety of themes, and download new ring tones to add to the onesalready included with the phone. There are also two games included with the phone: Bounce, Bowling, Chess Puzzle, Water Rapids, and Backgammon

First and last time I buy a Nokia...
This going to be one long story....


I bought this phone in July 04, and started having problems with it by Thanksgiving.It stopped charging.First I thought it was the charger, but tried it with another charger, did not work.Tried the charger with another phone, it worked.Turns out the "charging port is defective."Before I sent it for repair/replacement, it started working again.The trick was you have to slide in the charger's pin at a certain angle.Oh well, being as lazy as I am, I continued to use it that way.

Then sometime around January, I realized I was missing calls because the phone was choosing not to ring sometimes!No, the ringer is not turned off or anything; it just does not ring.

Shortly after that, the backlight on one side of the keyboard when flipped open stopped lighting up.Half the keys are not visible in dark.

To top all off, when battery is almost empty, and I slide the charger pin in at a special angle, and the phone recognizes the charger, I started occasionally seeing the "Battery Full" message on the screen.It's got a mind of its own, will not charge when does not feel like it.

I started asking around, and realized the "Battery Full" problem was actually common.

My carrier is (was) ATT, and they have this replacement guarantee, which I tried to benefit from.They ask questions to figure out if the problems are because of misuse.Yes, I dropped it, but not in water, not on concrete.Yes, there are scratches on it, but I put it in my purse along with my keys and stuff, sure it's going to get scratched.It does look used, but not abused or over-used.So ATT tells me, they'll send me a brand new replacement, and they'll inspect the faulty one that I return to them.If they inspect and decide it is a usage problem, then they're going to bill me for the full price of the phonewhich at the time $400.Thank you, but NO thank you.Even if it really is my fault the phone has all these problems and I am going to end up paying for a new phone, I'd rather not pay $400, and definitely not for the same Nokia.

I've used cell phones from other manufacturers.My first-ever was an Ericsson that I used for 5 years with absolutely no issues (other than, of course, battery change) until it was too bulky and unfashionable to carry around.I figure it's not my usage, but the phone's quality that's the problem.

Anywayssss, I sent the phone to Nokia's own repair center to get fixed.That was exactly 21 days ago.Status?Still waiting for parts!And no idea how much longer I will wait.

Moral of the story, too many problems in too short a time -> low quality product

Too slow response to repair -> not good customer service

Unhappy customer -> never-to-buy-another-Nokia customer

Gr8 phone...as far as its intended functionality
This is an awesome phone.....But its not for everyone....The primary users should be those who are messaging addicts...Do not buy it for its camera feature

Finally a phone that not a toy.
For some reason cell phone makers keep moving into making more phones that are more like toys. Musical ringers and games couldn't matter more to me.I recenty got this phone and have phone i really like.A couple of feature that I really enjoy are:

1.Its easy to read the text on the screen.And in some applications you can even adjust the text size.

2.Fast user input.I'm use to typing on text messages on a normal keypad, but the option of opening up a qwerty keypad is a nice change.

3.Access to my POP email.This was the selling feature for me.The phone has an application that I can set to download email from my business account directly to the phone.This is much better then using the browser.

4.Speaking of browser, it has a decent one, but the EGPRS data transfer is the best part.Very fast.

5.Bluetooth Connectivity.I can backup my contacts, notes, pictures, etc right to my PC.And if you have Outlook, you can have a full sync to your phone.(If you have Outlook Express like me, you can only sync your contact list.Still good enough.)And i'm looking forward to using it with a headset soon.

6.It has normal ringers.I know thats not a big thing nowdays, but I like my phone to sound like a phone.I'll totally miss it if its some musical melody or song (and it comes with a few musical ringers if you must have one.They don't sound half bad and you can download more.

7.Sound quality is great.People can clearly here me.And the speaker phone works well, even in the car.

The reason i'm giving it 4 stars is because there are a few areas Nokia could have improved on.The battery life on the phone runs about 3 days on a normal charge.Its not that bad a headache, but I've used a few 6 day battery life phones.Also, while the screen color and has some tight pixels, its also has a slow refresh.And the camera quality is very low.I didn't get it for the camera, but I've seen much better quality on other phones.

Overall this is a phone that I am very pleased with and it may be replacing my palm soon as I can more comfortable with it.I would suggest this phone to anyone who likes to have access to their email has a good serious business phone.

Nokia really missed out with this phone
This phone has a large array of features that you think would be useful. If you are wanting a camera phone...go somewhere else..liek the lg1400...I love Nokia...but this phone takes small tiny pictures...even for a camera phone...and dont even dare think about shaking any..lol....It is a novelty cam at best...other cams offer twice the resolution...The screen is small and not too sharp....and it does NOT have a speakerphone...it is called a loudspeaker...Cingular was quick to point that out to me. It is no where close to what you hear motorolas volume at. Especially the nextels ..which can be too loud....I find myslef having to put it on loudspeaker if I am in a noisy place and holding it up to my ear....the volume just isnt too great overall...or maybe I am just going deaf at 26. It is a cute and small phone...nice conveniant size...and the keyboard is surprisingly easy to type on...I have enjoyed that part of the phone a lot..The battery life is nothing like what amazon reports it at....so dont get your hopes up there...Nokia is taking a step in the right direction with this phone...and they have a lot of useful orginizational tools here...just treat it as a mid grade phone that introduces you to the nicer things and you will be fine. These newer phones are not as sturdy as the old 5100s and such so be careful...:)...

Okay little phone for the price
I like my little Nokia PM. When I went to buy it I just wanted the cheapest phone that was a little better than my LG I was using. I had my land phone cut off because people only call on my cell phone. I was going to get the plain Nokia but this one was on sale for just 10.00 more. My college age kid has the Sanyo 8200 and I won't lie her camera is fantastic because it zooms and has a flash but for an extra 10.00 I always have a camera handy and most of my pics have come out pretty decent. They always look better once they are on my PC. I haven't used the radio on the phone. I didn't get it for that purpose but I have the headset. Sprint's been decent to me and I got this in the Sprint store so for the price it is a good deal. Cell phones are just so expensive now due to all of the gadgets. This is a good basic phone. Don't expect expensive phone reception or expensive phone camera options when you are paying the bare minimum for a cell phone. I give it an A.It serves my purpose. Has my phone book in it and I don't lose calls like I did on my old LG phone.

Cute But Useless
I have had 2 of these phones within in a 2 month period and I just went to the sprint store so that they can order me another.The phone is cute but it doesn't hold a charge and even with good frequency it manages to still cut my calls.
The speakerphone option SUCKS! you can't hear anything and it always sounds like theres a fuzzy echo in the back ground and it's also like that when I'm using the handset.They should have left it without a camera it would at least been 1 less thing for people who own this phone to complain about. Other phones have the option of zooming in, the kind of flash that the phone has and the sounds it makes when you take the picture, Well no none of that and on top of that the pictures are terrible in good lighting or not in good lighting, The color always looks weird.Also you can't assign ringers to everyone that is in your phone book it's one ringtone for everything and everyone.I love the phone cause it's cute but I can't stand the phone because it doesn't do none of the things that all my other phones use to do. It has a radio but there's a special kind of headset that you use and that's all good and well but it's pointless when you can't enjoy what you bought it for in the first place.Also the web option is extremely slow and when you log off the internet you have to shut your phone off and turn it back on so that you can make a phone call cause other wise you won't be able to until like a 5 minute or so wait, Why? I don't know. DON'T BUY THIS PHONE YOU WILL BE EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED, LOOKS ARE DECEIVING!!!!!!

Nokia has made better ones in the past
I having been using Nokia brand phones for close to 10 years now.I have tried Ericssons, Panasonics, Samsungs, etc... and I still prefer Nokias to all of them.For starters, the menu design is great for the technically inept or for older folks who just want the basics. My favorite Nokia models were the 6160, 6162, and 5160. Those models ran off of a TDMA platform with AT&T as the service provider and this one is CDMA.This particular model is pretty basic. I hate flip phones so this was one of a few options available to me.The display is pretty good - clear graphics and color.I'm not a big fan of the keypad layout - it dips in the middle and I prefer it flat.I do like the fact that it is backlighted though.Talktime and standby time are plentiful enough for the standard user.Hands free options for this model stink.I haven't found one that I like yet.In lieu of a decent headset I've been using the speakerphone option which works pretty good.I don't need the camera phone and could do without it but if you are into stuff like that then you should invest in a case for the phone otherwise in less than a year your viewfinder will get scratched up due to its terrible location. Additionally, I prefer the keylock function on older models. Used to be that you could just hold down the endkey and it would lock.This model requires you to press the menu * option.If you are looking for very basic gear on the inexpesive side this is the phone way to go.

Hissssss & Camera is just name sake!
Pros:

Decent battery life
You can set profiles and each profile having a diffrent setting forringer,screensaver etc
You can group your contacts as VIP,Family etc and have the phone ring only when it is a call from family ..

Cons:

There is always a constant hiss on the speaker.( i am comparing this to my sanyo)
Squeaky noise- looks like something is going to fall off.. whenever you press a button you hear the sqeak!
Camera is absolutely useless!.. Minimal resolution
Speakerphone is not loud.I would want to use a speakerphone when i drive, This is not loud enough for the road noise. I can hardlyhear anyone ( I live in NJ .. so you know that i would drive slow!) ... Read more

GREAT PHONE , NOT SO GREAT KEYPAD!!!
I bought this phone via e-bay (uh..) cool phone take it with me everywhere . Nick Mp3 player , Cool radio . great for txt msg . but the only thing I don't like is the keypad does not light up
if you can memorize the QWERTY keyboard (which I have) then your ok , oh and also the number keys are a little small .

Outstanding Music Player & Overall Good Phone
I swapped out a Motorola MPx200 (which I fried) for a Nokia 3300 initially because of the low price compared to other phones with similar features.You do get a lot of "bang for the buck" with this phone.

The selling point on the 3300 is the music player.It plays MP3 files and "raw" (not MPEG-4 encoded) AAC files.Because it does not support the MPEG-4 compression, you're better of with using MP3, as the raw AAC files at the same bitrate are acutally larger in size with no noticeable difference in quality.The music player is among the best I've listened to (it actually has some BASS output) with the provided stereo headset; you can also listen to it with the single-ear (mono) earpiece and the player knows the difference and switches from stereo to mono accordingly.You can also listen to either the music player or FM radio using the loudspeaker on the phone, but to listen to the FM radio you still have to keep the headset connected, as it utilizes the headset wire as an FM antenna.I have encountered an issue where the music player will arbitrarily change tracks, or the FM radio will spontaneously kick over to another station preset, but it could be from accidental keypresses on the case that I have the phone in.

This phone also includes a recorder and a special audio cable (3.5mm standard plug on both ends) for connecting an external CD player or other equipment to record from to the MMC card (64MB) supplied with the phone.The phone records 64Kbps, 32KHz "raw" AAC format (64MB = about 2 hours of audio), which is fine if you are recording from the radio or voice but not the greatest if flawless quality is your preference from your CDs.The Nokia Audio Manager 3.1 software supplied with the phone is clunky and stalls frequently; I highly recommend using RealPlayer 10 with the Nokia Mobile Device plug-in (which also handles conversion to MP3 for you); RealOne Player with the plug-in is also included on the CD that comes with the phone. If you have a separate MMC reader, you can read the cards in that rather than in the phone to speed up transfers.

The phone itself is a decent quality phone, as with most Nokia handsets. However, if you don't want to look like a space alien talking on it, you'll find yourself using the earpiece almost always (otherwise, you hold the narrow back side of the phone to your face to talk; which looks tacky and feels awkward). The full keyboard on the US "B" model is excellent for text messaging and e-mail--*IF* you have light to see it with (only the call, hang-up, and directional buttons light up, which means you can't see the numbers or keyboard in the dark--major issue if you have to communicate in less-than-ideal lighting; keep a little mini flashlight with you).

The 3300 supports Java MIDP 1.0, which is wonderful. Most of the apps I used most frequently on my MPx200 I have found suitable Java alternatives for (MyCast Weather, Virca IRC client, EmailViewer e-mail client, and MapQuest Mobile for real-time directions are among some of the apps I use often). The built-in e-mail client is adequate, but forces you to download entire messages instead of just headers to see what you *really* want to read (downloading full messages can consume your GPRS bandwidth in a hurry if your e-mail box is big), so I use ReqWireless E-Mail viewer, which doesn't have that disadvantage.

Like all Series 40 Nokias, the Calendar is very basic with limited capability, but the Contacts database is robust.Which brings up another major issue with this phone: lack of PC Suite support.The data cable supplied with the phone only interfaces with the MMC card in the phone and not with the phone's interface itself, so if you need to synchronize via cable or use your cell phone as a modem, you'll be SOL on this device.It only supports synchronization over-the-air using SyncML with a SyncML-compliant server (again, a bandwidth hog if your contacts/calendar db is huge); Nexthaus does make a SyncML server to sync with Outlook, but any calendar items not supported by the 3300 get skipped so your calendar is always incomplete (Contacts come through great though).

Lastly, you would think that with this phone supporting the MMC card format that it would also support SecureDigital (SD).It does not, and MMC cards are becoming increasingly difficult to find as more vendors make the move to SD cards.The phone comes with a 64MB card, which is sufficient for most people, but if you like more than an hour's worth of MP3s, you'll want to look for a 128MB or 256MB MMC card.I will give it this much: there is a feature to backup and restore your phone's settings to/from the MMC card, which is a smart feature to use in case your phone should be accidentally reset.

Overall, I do enjoy this phone, especially the awesome music player and the java support.

THIS PHONE IS NOT GREAT! IT'S GARBAGE
Save your money and look into a phone that's easier to use than this one. I initially liked this phone for its odd shape and exciting features, but now I regret my purchase altogether. I have Cingular, and the service has been pretty good. That's not the problem, but I realized that Nokia is second to Motorola when it comes to quality. I like the FM radio & MP3 features, but they come with massive flaws. You can't play the radio without the headsets in the phone which is bulky and annoying. I love listening the radio on my cell, and if you do too, then look into a phone that has radio hands-free headsets. If Nokia were to improve this phone and re-release it like they do with weak music cd's, then it would do better on the market. THE WORST PROBLEM I HAVE is with the keypad. I love the keypad, but I hate it! Full QWERTY keypad but it does not light up nor does it even glow in the dark. Don't even think you'll memorize the keys because you won't trust me! False advertising with the Express on Cases. Nokia said they would void my warranty if I were to change cases.
So, ladies and gentlemen, don't end up like me!!! I have two more years left in this contract and I hate this phone. I do get a lot of looks with it... but only if they knew how much I wished I had the ...Motorola V600...

Horrible service from AT&T
The phone is great but AT&T has to be the worst cell phone provider ever. There network has so many dead spots its not funny and not small ones either. I got better signal when i was roaming so what ever you do do not get at&t is a big disapointment!

When I decided to buy my very first phone I wanted to get the best one I could buy.Looks and capabilities were a key factor in deciding which one.I was about to get a samsung but at cingular they try to sell you nokias because they have better reception.I picked the 3300 because it was an mp3 player, radio, cool design, and because I saw that alicia keys used one in one of her music videos.I have had it since January and ir hasn't failed me yet.One thing I would change is that they would sell holsters for it at cingular and interchangable plates.Other than that I highly recommend it.Put if you want something really small don't get it. ... Design
The large 2.2-inch, 176 x 220 screen dominates the front of the device. The SMT5600's controls maximize available space on the small unit. Great Phone - Small, light, and versatile
I've had this phone for about two weeks now.

OK, I'm no phone guru.Previously, I've owned one phone - a Samsung flip-phone for four+ years.That was a great phone, but the hinges on the flip cover had started to break after so many years, and quite a few falls too I might add.

But, I can say the AudioVox is a great phone.Put it this way, three employees at the Cingular (ex-AT&T) store where I got it ALSO have one - so that's an endorsment from peope who ought to know what's good.

It's very small, very light and very cool!

It has:

- Microsoft "Smartphone" operating system.
- Camera - with tons of settings to alter the image
- Video Camera - ditto on the settings
- Ability to store 1GB of files (music, movies, whatever) on a Mini SD cards
- Bluetooth
- Infrared
- Ability to have e-mail PUSHED to the device - like a Blackberry -- but the "unlimited data" plan from Cingular is only $25 / month -- which is cheaper tan for a Blackberry.
- It took all my Outlook Contacts easily.Synching is a cinch!
- Outlook Calendar appointments can be entered on the phone or synched -- and when ytou are in aan Appointment, the phone automatically goes into "meeting mode" (vibrates, instead of ringing).Cool!

The phone is a power miser considering what it's got going on. I charge battery every 2-3 days.When I just use it as a phone, I don't need to charge for 4 days.Right when I got the phone I went online and found a longer lasting battery that the standard one delivered -- but it's so economical on power, I don't think I'll need it!

Anyway, if you're looking to replace the phone you have, you might want to check out the AUDIOVOX SMT 5600.I paid $199 but I just saw it offered for free on a site that sells phones and services.

I switched from Sprint to Cingular, beacuse for my work I need a carrier that offers phones I can use both in the US and in Europe (and not a separate loner or rented phone) -- And I think only Cingular carries this little guy.

The best phone available.
The combination of intelligent features, bluetooth, video/audio and Windows Media Player 10 make this the best phone and certainly the best SmartPhone available.With the addition of a 512 MB MiniSD card the phone will hold 34 hours of video.

The only complaints are the rocker button is difficult to click.

Iam yet to test more functions on the phone. Big screen and more features. Video quality is good.

It rocks in everyway
This phone is really a look into the next gen convergence devices you will be seeing in the months to come. Speaker is loud, camera quality is good, gprs is strong, ATT reception in houston is as bad as most people say it is. The only (im being really picky) thing missing is a querty keyboard. However it is well compensated by the great nokia style (maybe even better) T9 typing.

Its really that good but....
Let me first tell you that i have researched this phone high and low..

Yes, it is really as good as cheap as it sounds! It has everything....Camera, Bluetooth, IR, USB, Windows Mobile 2003....one GREAT advantage over its strong competitor Mpx 200 is...the miniSD goes in the back which to me is an advantage...who wants a memory card sticking out from the side > Mpx 220

frankly, theres nothing out at there at this price with so many features but let me tell you to keep the following things in mind which collectively made me return the phone.

1. This is a tri-band (forget what all the websites claim that this is quad-band, its not)
2. The phone is great but it is cheap plastic...within 3 days just moving it in and out of pockets scratched the screen with 3-4 scratches..i am very careful not to throw it around or slide it across surfaces but it is very susceptible to getting scratches
3. Im not sure why people complain about this but yes..it has an average quality 640x480 camera, to me this is an emergency snap device, not a carl zeiss quality camera
4. This is a problem with Windows Mobile, not this phone but ofcourse you have to live with the OS in the phone...the more apps you're running ..the slower the phone becomes since they're still in the memory...you have to constantly go to task manager and close them to free memory..just closing an app while using it DOES not close it...it just minimizes it
5. Finally, i absolutely hated the idea of putting in my calendar every day by pressing keys 3 times till i got my letter..if your PRIMARY purpose is data/email, you CANNOT live without a keyboard on the phone...

So far...i still have not found a sub $200 keyboard phone with comparable features of this phone...the hunt goes on :) ... Read more
