3-0 out of 5 stars Nice solid basic phone, but with some little drawbacks
One of the most solid phone I have seen, nice touch, but the exterior is too smooth, i have drop it several times because I don't have a good grip of it, and I miss the grip I can get from Motorola V300. The screen is very dim, even it's at max bright ness. I think LG intentionaly make the low end phone screen this dark, so I will like the more expensive one. If all u need is making calls, this is fine. If you have a polorized sun glasses, don't get this phone. The screen look completely dark under polorized sun glasses. Ring tone is so loud, even the lowest setting will scared me when it rings. No single ring tone does not scare me from this phone. No speaker phone, oh, i miss speaker phone. Lucky I switch to VX6100, which has a very good speaker phone. Battery don't last that long, but I never run out of it. I like the dock charger, even it's large, but I will always like to put my phone on the charger, that's why i never run out of battery.the external sub screen is probably the biggest attration of hte phone, but it don't seem the visible under sun light.

4-0 out of 5 stars very good phone with only minor drawback
pro: solid, cool looking, much better than VX4500, nice material and workmanship, cool external display, loud speaker and microphone , people say they hear me better than T-mobile Motorola V300, very loud ring tone (good and bad), strong vibration(good and bad). Desktop charger make charging handy. Real Aluminum front cover looks very cool.

cons: screen is dim for today's phone, screen look like a cheap phone, can not compare to V300.not many good ring tone, no game, ring can be too loud and often scare me when it rings. Vibration is so strong, when place on table it make very horrible noise. Very common for today's phone, the clip exposed the phone for scretch. I prefer the pouchbelt clip like the one come with Motorola V300. If you want this phone, better buy a leather cover or a aftermarket pouch that fits. Pouch from V300 is too big for this phone. After 2 week of use, I already scretch the cool looking front cover. phone get warm after 15 minutes of use. You can only get this phone online, such as amazon.com. I bet this phone cost more to manufacture than the Vx4500, and look so much better than Vx4500, so they don't offer it in the store. They want people see the bland Vx4500 to buy more expensive phone.

4-0 out of 5 stars Phone is good. Activation was a nightmare.
First of all I must disagree with three points a previous reviewer made. The phone does have a "vibrate only" mode--to activate it, simply hold on to the asterisk key (or the microphone button if the phone is closed.) This turns on vibrate and silences all other sounds. In addition, the phone does allow you tosilence the ringer. To do this, open the phone and use the volume rocker button on the left hand side of the phone. Third, you can talk on the phone while it charges. You can either use a headset or you can simply grab the charger and hold onto it to press the phone to your ear. Either this reviewer was using a completely different phone or s/he did not read the manual.

Because the phone does not have those deficiencies, it really is a pretty good phone. Like other reviewers, I find it slightly annoying that you cannot leave the outside display on, especially because I do not wear a watch. However, pushing the button to turn on the display is no big deal. I also find it a bit annoying that the external display goes into a marquee mode, scrolling the information horizontally. I would also point out that the color display can get washed out if you're in bright sunlight.

Otherwise, the phone has some good features. I like how LG allows you to have more than one number for each name in your address book. (Some phones make you program a different entry for each number, which is silly when you consider that one person can easily have four phone numbers.) I also find the menus to be easy to navigate. There is no camera, which I like because all I want to do is make phone calls.

Activating this phone was a nightmare. For some reason Amazon shipped it without activating it. So I took it to the Verizon booth in Circuit City, where he could not activate it because he claimed that there was no suitable electronic serial number on the back of the phone. (The number he needed was on the box, which I had left at home. So bring the box with you when you try to activate it.)

So I went to a different Verizon store the next day to activate it. First he tells me that the necessary number was indeed on the back of the phone and that person I saw at Circuit City did not know what he was doing. Despite this, it took over two hours to activate the phone. Supposedly this was because this particular model had never been sold in the Verizon store and therefore it was not in their computer.

Thus, although I like this phone and I got a good deal on it through Amazon, I will never buy another phone from Amazon because of the activation hassle. Instead I will just buy one in the store. Of course your mileage may vary--maybe my activation hassle was a unique one.

3-0 out of 5 stars Lacks simple functions, but works well
I will be exchanging this phone for another model. The reception is good, phone works well, however there are a few simple functions that I just expected it to have, becausenearly every phone now-a-days has these features:
1.It only has a desk top charger. You can't talk while it charges. It also doesn't have a speaker phone, which would be convenient to use while it is charging on the desk top charger.
2.You can't turn off the ringer.
3.There isn't a "vibrate only" mode for the ringer. The only vibrate option is with the highest ringer level.

For me, numbers 2 and 3 are important because I am a teacher.I need to be able to keep my phone on during class, without a ring. The lowest level of ring is also very loud.

It is also a pain that the light doesn't stay on for more than 2 seconds. If you're dialing a number and look away for a minute, the screen is dark and you can't see anything.

If none of these are a big deal to you, then the phone is pretty good.If small gripes like this will bother you, I wouldn't buy the 4600.

5-0 out of 5 stars A solid phone
I was a little leary about buying a phone that I hadn't seen (held or used) over the Internet (this phone is only sold through Verizon'z online store. They do not offer it in their stores). But I was pleasently suprised when it arrived. It has a fairly small form factor which makes it easy to slip in a pocket. It is also very well made. It seems very solid, even for a small phone. The menus are well done and easy to use and I enjoy the interface more than other phones I have had.

The external OELD is neat, but you must know that the longest setting it can be set to is 3 minutes and then it shuts off. You can't keep it on all the time. Also, there is no LED indicator to let you know about missed calls, voicemail and the like. You have to press the volume button to activate the OELD and then it will indicate if there were any missed messages. If this bothers you, then I wouldn't reccommend buying. To me, these are small issues. To others they may not be.

This phone really looks nice too. The combination silver/dark blue finish along with its design really makes it stand out. This was a very well thought out phone aesthetically speaking.

All in all, this is a great phone. If the absence of an 'always on' external display isn't a big factor, and you are looking into getting this phone, I would suggest you do. I think you'll like it! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars very nice phone
I've had this for nearly 2 years and it has worked great for me. nice small size. it is difficult to see display when not backlit. i changed the preferences to leave it backlit while in use and have not seen very much drain on the battery, but the phone does get pretty warm.the only major problem i did have was with the speaker and verizon replaced the phone...no problems since.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great phone!
I purchased this phone a year and a half ago and it's been great. I haven't had any problems with it. The display is sharp. I got two batteries with it - a "short" duration, which makes the phone very light to carry around and looks sleek, too, and also the "longer" time battery. The longer time battery obviously adds a bit of weight to the phone, but not so much that it's bulky in your pocket. The phone is pretty small, anyway, so all in all, it's a great phone and I've been very pleased with it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Warning: This phone is a lemon!!!!
I purchased this phone from Verizon 18 months ago for $200+.The phone headset jack stopped working after 2 months and I took it back to Verizon. Verizon replaced it with a defective refurbished phone which promptly stopped working within 3 months. This time, people could not hear me while on a call with me. I took it back again....This happened 7 times in 18 months. Each time Verizon refused to switch it for a new replacement phone (even when it stopped working within 2 months of purchase. Instead, Verizon exchanged it with a defective refurbished phone which stopped working within 2 to 3 months and I would have to take it back. Eventually, the seventh time I took it back and accused them of selling me a lemon and exchanging it with lemons, the store manager agreed and replaced it with a cheap LG phone. This phone did not have the high capacity battery or travel charger that my original Samsung did and defintely is of inferior construction / aesthetics.

Bottom line - the Samsung phone is defective, purchase it at your peril. ... Read more

T9 text entry, which is a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit-- a plus for mobile email and text messaging users.

Getting on the Internet anywhere is easy with the VX6000, as well. Verizon's optional Mobile Web package allows you to read and send e-mails, exchange instant messages and view your favorite web content on your phone. You can check your e-mail, trade stocks online, compare prices while shopping, access flight information, get movie listings and find directions to the theater.

Verizon's Get It Now wireless download service is also fully compatible with the VX6000. This pay-per-download service features application downloads, games and productivity tools. You can also personalize your handset with ringtone downloads and digital photo-sharing tools using the Get It Now service.

The VX6000 ships with a calendar and scheduler, a voice memo application with up to 4 minutes of record time, and a notepad. An alarm clock, calculator and world clock are also included, as is the very handy restaurant tip calculator. Never dine without it!

Imaging and Entertainment
The VX6000 really shines in the digital imaging department. The 330,000-pixels, 640 x 480 camera features a digital zoom, color effects controls (normal, antique, black and white, negative), a built-in mirror for self-portraits and white balance adjustment. The camera can be set to one of three quality levels (low, medium, high) and there's also a shutter self timer. Built-in framing software lets you place one of five "fun frames" around your photos before you send them off to friends.

The fun doesn't stop with taking pictures. The VX6000 is also BREW enabled, meaning it supports games written on the BREW platform and many games are available via the Get It Now service. The phone also features customizable caller ID pictures and 7 built-in screen backgrounds so you can make your phone reflect your personality.

5-0 out of 5 stars LG VX 6000 star performer
Have owned this model over one year.
It is beautifully designed with TWO color displays...a large display when the phone is open and a narrow color display on over when clam shell top is closed.
All functions are intuitive and easy to learn....manuel is well written and easy to use.
Only limitation is that the number of voice activated numbers is too few...about nine...you should be able to buy this at a very favorable price as there is now a new version the VX6100.

2-0 out of 5 stars Wouldn't recommend
I have this LG phone for a year now, and I have a lot to say about it.

The Pros: Good reception. Easy to hold (not to small like some cell phones are) and has a little bit more weight to it (which I prefer).

The Cons: 2 phones later and they both have a short battery life. They both also shut off in the middleof a conversation ALL the time. The phone will power off for no apparent reason, and it will do so if you go to answer it and pick it up the wrong way. The battery doesn't seem to stay charged for as long as I'd like.

About the Camera: I think it's crap, but it's a cell phone, in my personal opinion, it's not meant to be taking award winning pictures. So neither a pro or a con, just what I'd expect from a camera on a cell phone.

Overall: For all the hassle I have with it shutting down all the time, I wouldn't recommend it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good phone, bad software
I just purchased this phone 8 days ago.The phone itself is great.I get a better signal with this phone than I did with my old LG VX10.I love the voice command and driving mode features--they allow me to talk on the phone without risking a car accident because I'm pressing buttons on the phone. The biggest downside is the software. As of the date of this review, the 6100 is on its second software version. However, one big problem remains in that version:the caller id feature does not work properly while roaming.Your phone may display "Call from: no ID" when receiving an incoming call. However, once you answer the phone, the caller ID information shows up.This only happens about 50% of the time: sometimes it works; sometimes it doesn't.I have been told by Verizon technicians that this problem will should be fixed soon in the next software release for the phone. I will be waiting for the new software to come out rather than exchanging the phone.

4-0 out of 5 stars Over all Im very happy with phone.
I have only had the phone a short time. I upgraded from a LG VX10 but over all Im very happy with the LG VX6000. The phone is simple to use and if you have used LG flip phones before then you want need the manual. I read that alot of people complain about the phones lights turning off while typing, well that aint so because as long as you are typing it keeps the lights on and you can set the inside lights for seconds to minutes to always on. The signal strentgh is good and I live in a mountains region and on a road where people loose reception the LG VX6000 all digital phone still had one bar on this road. Now another copol detail is if your phone keeps loosing reception in areas it will only search for towers every fifteen minutes wich is good to save battery. I had a phone that always searched and a full charge in that area would be dead by end of day without making any calls so I like that. The pictures are real nice and the phone come with some good ring tones but I use normal phone ring. The voice recognitionis awsome, I had a phone where you could only say one name like John but this one you can say John Doe and it repeats it back to you correctly.

Now down sides are that its all digital no analog but Im not complaining because I new this when I bought it but you might not. Also the outside display goes off to save battery but if you want to see the time then I just push the right side button to turn it back on but that is another non important down side. The lights on the numbers when the phone is opened are nice but not that bright and the end and send button are'nt very well lit, now that is a ligit gripe. The camera lens cant be covered and it has no flash but then again if your taking pics in the dark buy a real camera. Another grip I see is that it only holds 20 pics but theres ways around that and if you put more then 20 pics on in two or three days, buy a real camera. Over all this phone is great and Im happy with it so unlike the 6100 wich I had problems with a few days after getting it but then again might have been that one phone but if your looking at this phone then I dont believe you will be unhappy. If you want to see my thoughts and updates then check out my forum and under cell phone will be post from me and others as the forum grows so its at http://uceddiec.proboards24.com/

4-0 out of 5 stars Sweet~^^
This phone is very good, except for the camera. The camera's gallery can only save up to 20 pictures. What's up with that ToT.The phone is pretty cool, and has o.k ring tones.I like the voice memos as well.I don't highly recommend this phone, especially if you like taking many pictures.Peace outie~........................^^ ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Nice design, great battery life, but..........
I actually give this phone 2.6 stars, so I figured I would give it the benefit of the doubt and round it up to 3.It feels good and solid and has the right amount of weight without being bulky. The display screen is big and bright.During calls, the phone needs to be PRECISELY placed by the ear in order to hear the party on the other end.Major issue for me.Nice to have a speakerphone, but it must be held close like a walkie-talkie to hear, even in the quietest conditions. This sort of defeats the whole hands-free thing. With the exception of being all the way in the back of Walmart near the camping supplies, the black hole of cell phone reception, I always get at least 2 bars of signal. The menu functions are o.k. (at best) and can be a bit confusing; starting in one application and being directed to another. The battery life is excellent.I can go for almost 4 full days of consistent use before needing to charge the unit. The battery door is weak and flimsy, and prone to opening without meaning to, and the battery will likely pop out if the cover comes off. This model phone should have been designed with a battery pack that just fits the back of the phone without a cover, like most LG phones. To sum things up:

Pros:
1.Bright, crisp display
2.Excellent battery life
3.Good reception
4.Good solid feel
5.Speakerphone (see Cons as well)

Cons:
1.No Bluetooth
2.Requires precise ear placement
3.Menu confusing
4.Speakerphone sound quality
5.Battery door
6.Not a lot of accessories available
7.No PC connectivity or FTP without expensive Verizon
software.

I hoped this helped. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Yet another "non-phone" phone
It seems that most phone makers are so busy adding features (camera phone, fancy lights and ringers) that some important gaffs (IMHO) are made with the design.

The CDM8900's outside LCD is perfect example of this. While it seems obvious to me, it apparently wasn't to Audiovox, that the outside LCD should ALWAYS show the caller's ID when the phone is ringing. The 8900 toggles every 5 seconds between the caller ID and a "Verizon Wireless" banner.According to VZW, that toggling is supposed to show if you are roaming or not.Fine, but does it have to happen during an incoming call?!?!

Another 8900 goof: Speed dial #1 is hard-coded to your cell phone voice mail. You can't modify speed dial #1 so that it auto-dials your account password.Something my old Motorola did.

I would love to see a return of ergnonmic/common sense design in cell phones: Buttons that are easy to dial by touch, easier to see the displays in bad light, and easier to use when driving(like the Speed dial #1).

On the plus side, aside from a squeaky hinge for the flip, it's a sturdy phone with good volume and reception.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome phone! And here's a link for the product manual.
K. E. Espejo asked to buy a product manual from someone; here's a link for the CDM89000's 'homepage' and there is a link there that takes you to the manual in PDF format:

[...]

I've had this phone for just about a year and I LOVE it!The earpiece volume is LOUD, it maintains a signal in some tough terrain (Western PA), and it is pretty sturdy, having survived several drops.

Two gripes: The speakerphone could be louder, but works wonderfully in most situations. And the camera, well, the product is first and foremost a phone, so really, enough said, eh?

I would definitely recommend this phone.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best there is
This phone is amazing. it has plenty of features in it. I am very happy that I bought this phone. If you want to get a new phone, then look no further. This is also a great gift for kids. i really recommend this phone to you all.

4-0 out of 5 stars Manual or User's Guide
Phone works great but manual's missing. Have to navigate all buttons on my own. Can somebody sell or give me a copy of the CDM-8900 Manual or User's Guide, please? Thanks.

5-0 out of 5 stars This phone is glorious
This phone is VERY good. I use metroPCS and everyone knows that MPCS has A horrible connection. This phone has such good reception that it amazes me. YOu can also buy programs on teh phone such as MovieGoer(Tells you movie times and gives reveiws and etc.) MIDIRingTones (Buy a certain amount of credits and you can buy songs. 1 credit per song) Wall Paper Universe II (Beautiful backgrounds for your phone. Uses Credits also) and oh so much more. YOu can get games liek DUke Nukem, Bomberman, Pacman and so much more. I reccomend this phone to anyone who wants a compact, slick, and lightweight phone with good reception. The camera is awesome it never blurs or anything.

In conclusion: I love this phone and will continue to use it until they make something waaaay better than this. This phone is guaranteed to be useful for MANY MANY years. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars College student's review
For a free phone, this is about average. It's pretty small and is not flimsy.

Sound - good. I've never had a problem. It's always clear, and never too quiet. As far as the phones ringtone capabilities, they're sort of weak. They don't even have good ringtones available unless you're prepared to pay for the little program through get it now, AND the tone for $2.99

The response time to the keys being entered is insanely annoying. Also when you recieve a text and are currently writing one, you have to get out of it and go all theway back into your saved messages, and then you have to key over the entire length thus far to begin to write again. Bad text messaging phone for sure.

the background is tiny so don't be prepared to put anything cool on your wallpaper, you will hardly be able to tell what it is. surfing the web on this phone would be a pain.

OVERALL the phone, for basic functionality, is quite nice. If you are looking for something to play with though, get a phone with more capabilities. I've never had reception issues except where Verizon in general sucks for service.

I would recommend this phone to someone who doesn't talk much on one (batterly life = not good) but is looking for something to maybe call the wifey from at lunchtime. Like I said, it's pretty sturdy too, i've dropped mine quite a few times. If you are going in for a 2-year contract, probably spend the extra to get something that won't be outdated in a couple weeks.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great phone!
I got one of these for free with a one-year contract, and I must say it is a great phone. It does everything a phone should do. The voice quality is outstanding on both ends, and it has competent voice dialing and phone book capabilities. Verizon's coverage is pretty good too. My only complaint is that the screen is a bit dark, and you generally need the backlight to see it. Although it can function as a Web phone, the screen is a bit dinky for that. If all you want is a phone, and you don't care about gimmicky features, then this is a pretty good bet.

2-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Mediocre
When my brother signed up for service with Verizon Wireless they were running a BOGO free deal on phones. He got an expensive camera phone and I got stuck with the KX414.The phone isn't terrible but it would be much better with some improvements.

Although the screen is color, it is tiny and hard to read. The ear piece is also rather small and has to be directly on your ear to hear properly. I've had the phone for about six months and the blue "mask" that surrounds the screen is loose and ready to fall off. Many of the numbers on the key pad are fading color and chipping. It will probably need to be replaced.

When I have it on the vibrate setting I end up missing calls because the vibration is so weak. The ringers that come with the phone are annoying so if you plan on buying this phone prepare to spend extra money on ones you can tolerate. If you like games you'll also have to download and pay for them because they don't come with the phone.

I have to charge it every single night so that I don't lose power throughout the day.I do get pretty good service and it is rare that my call is dropped. That is really the only positive.

It is very obvious to me why this phone was free. If you're shopping for a new phone I would spend the extra fifty bucks and get something with a little higher quality. It will pay off in the long run.

31. Motorola V65p Push to Talk Phone (Verizon Wireless)

(price subject to change: see help)
Asin: B0009N5LHA
Catlog: Wireless
Manufacturer: Verizon Wireless

Amazon.com Product Description

This basic phone from Motorola just got better. Like its predecessor, the V60p, it has push-to-talk capabilities, but with the addition of a color main screen and a larger supplementary screen. With a push-to-talk subscription from Verizon Wireless, you can communicate walkie-talkie style with a co-worker or entire teams anywhere in the country. The V65p more than pulls its weight as a cell phone, text messenger, and wireless web client, as well.

Design
The V65p's classic clamshell design features a full-color 128 x 128 main display with support for 65,000 colors. A monochrome 96 x 32 supplemental display on the outside of the clamshell cover displays call information, current time, battery life and more. There's a standard jack to accept universal hands-free headsets on the top right side of the handset. The top right side of the phone houses the antenna while a combination charging/USB data port is placed on the bottom edge of the unit. Most features and on-screen menus are controlled by a two-way center button on the handset's control pad, or up and down buttons on the left side of the case. There's also a push-to-talk button here for quick walkie-talkie style communication. Optional user-changeable masks let you dress up the V65p's front and back covers.

Calling Features
Voice activated dialing makes calling your friends, family and associates as easy as saying their names. Voice commands can be also used to control many of the phone's functions. There's also a built-in address book that can store up to 500 contacts for quick and easy management of phone numbers, as well as up to 150 push-to-talk contacts. In addition to a vibrate alert, the phone comes with 32 built-in ringtones and incoming caller ID lets you decide if you want to answer or not. A built-in speakerphone makes it easy to talk without having the phone to your ear and the V65p's GPS location technology pinpoints your exact location when you dial 911.

As mentioned, one of the key features of the V65p is its push-to-talk capability. The V65p fully supports Verizon's push-to-talk service, which allows for one-touch conversations with anyone else on a Verizon push-to-talk phone. Group-based push-to-talk communication is also supported. It's like a having a CB radio with enough range to cover all of North America.

Messaging, Internet and Tools
The V65p has all the bases covered when it comes to messaging. Support is built in for sending and receiving text, graphics and sound via messages. iTap text entry, which is a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit-- a plus for mobile email and text messaging users.

Getting on the Internet anywhere is easy with the V65p, as well. 4-0 out of 5 stars Good mid-priced phone; Attractive styling
When my Nokia finally became too disgusting to look at after being continually beaten and abused, I went to the Verizon store for a replacement. The new low-end Nokia didn't have internet access and I didn't want a flip phone , so I bought the Samsung N330.

Pro's:
1. Good battery life (one of my main criteria)
2. Smaller size when slide is retracted
3. Loud ringer
4. Excellent voice recognition (Verizon transferred my contact list and it recognizes all my contacts by name without training)
5. Good transceiver. I live in a rural area where signal strength is an issue. The N330 exhibits good range and signal quality is excellent, even though it employs an internal patch antenna and has no extendable antenna.
6. Attractive styling, if that's your thing. I use Apple computer products and consider them to have excellent design & styling. I would rate Samsung's N330 styling in the same league.

Cons:
1. Audio quality is somewhat tinny sounding. It sounds like the frequency response of the internal ear speaker is too narrow, especially regarding low frequency roll-off.(In speaker-phone mode, the N330 sounds fine due to the larger speaker located below the keypad near the microphone.)
2. I am concerned about the life expectancy of the slide-out display. Not that it feels flimsy or cheap; Brand-new, it works great...and gets high score on the cool-factor, however I foresee mechanical problems. I could be wrong, and I hope that I am. Only time will tell.
3. Few standard ring-tones. I like to have a few choices of simple non-musical tones.
4. There is a flexible cover over the charger connector that must be peeled off and rotated out of the way every time you connect the charger.

For me, the pros outweigh the cons. ... Read more
