Amazon.com Hands-On Review About the Nokia 6800 The Nokia 6800 is simply a phone made for text input. The basic looking phone hides a full QWERTY keyboard (though obviously with smaller keys than you're used to) under the numeric keypad. Just flip it up and turn the device 90¼ to use the keyboard. Its unique design is only featured on the 6800 series and offers the largest full keyboard of any consumer level mobile phone in the US. The only problem with the keyboard is that because it's quite wide, it's hard to handle with one hand. If you want to jot a text message while walking, you'll have better luck by using predictive text on the numerical keypad. While sitting down, or stationary, the keyboard is very hard to beat. Besides the hidden keyboard, features of the Nokia 6800 include: Even though the Nokia 6800 is made for text, it does a great job at voice. Call quality is excellent and dropped calls should be few and far between. It has the standard Nokia series 40 operating system that should be familiar to users of past Nokia models. A joystick in the middle below the screen serves as the main navigation tool. When the keyboard is flipped out it makes using the joystick slightly awkward, since it's to the side of the screen. The Nokia 6800 ties in very easily with your existing email account and it even supports IMAP which is email technology that keeps email in sync across multiple devices (your phone and computer for instance). It doesn't have fully push email like a BlackBerry, but you can set email to be automatically checked at short intervals. Text and data plans from T-Mobile USA are some of the most affordable in the industry, which is a good thing since you will find yourself using these services a lot. Like other phones with a built-in radio, the Nokia 6800 uses the wired handsfree unit as an antenna. This means you'll have to plug-in the handsfree before the radio will work, which is a minor inconvenience. The screen is large enough to handle most mobile web content, such as sports scores and weather information. Since the 6800 has GPRS, it downloads data at about the same speed as a dial-up internet connection. Java MIDP 1.0 support is included, so all sorts of applications can be installed. A currency converter, portfolio manager and two games come pre-installed. Custom ring tones can be downloaded in various formats, including MIDI. The Nokia 6800 weighs 4.3 ounces and measures4.69" x 2.17" x 0.91". It's a little longer than most phones out there, but having a full keyboard more than makes up for it. The lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 4.5 hours of talk time, and up to 10 days of standby time, but the numbers will vary depending on your usage pattern. It's a dual band GSM 800 / GSM 1900 handset. Nokia 6800 cell phone, 1000 mah Li-Ion battery, rapid travel charger, mono boom headset, SIM card. --Reviewed by Jon Gales, owner of www.MobileTracker.net Features Reviews (14)

Amazon.com Review But what good is a cool-looking phone without practical features? The S105 is loaded with them. Extensive call records allow you to view missed incoming and outgoing calls, and the length of total and individual calls. The organizer contains a to-do list, calculator, alarm, currency exchange estimator, and calendar, in which you can write yourself memos for any given day. You can also read and write messages in text format (with SMS support from T-Mobile). The S105 also provides nine precomposed, time-saving templates for simple messages you can send in lieu of typing them yourself. Late for a date? Simply scroll and choose, "I am late and will be there in ___ minutes" and hit Send. These templates can of course be edited and saved. You can also attach sound or graphic objects to messages. The phone book in the S105 allows for 500 entries in phone memory, and another 250 in the SIM card. Contacts can be organized in up to 10 groups, with each group having its own ring tone and graphic display. You can store up to nine speed-dial numbers. When it comes to the ring tone, youve got many choices. In fact, customizing these settings might bring up unusual quandaries, such as deciding whether or not the phone should play "Carmen" or "Valse des Fleurs" when you get a call. If youre feeling retro, you can just set the phone to ring like an old-fashioned rotary dial. There are 20 of these polyphonic ringer options to choose from. You can also set your alert to vibration, vibration plus melody, or display light only. Speaking of light, users can even change the color of the service indicator light (eight options), alter the contrast of both LCD displays, choose from 12 full-color animated wallpaper displays, and select menu colorthemes. Changing the appearance and sounds of phones is great, but whatabout mission-critical features? In our tests we found the voice quality to be excellent. A long-distance call from a busy downtown Seattle street corner was successful. The answering party did not hear a huge truck rumble by, thanks to the phone's microphone noise-cancellation properties. The phones network services menu allows broad control over call waiting, call forwarding, and caller ID, as well as network selection (automatic or manual), and band selection (GSM 900/1,800 orGSM 1,900) for travel in foreign countries. Users can manipulate and storesettings such as the SMS service center used for sending messages, and thechannels on which broadcast messages are received. Depending on your serviceplan, the WAP-enabled browser allows access to mobile-friendly Internetsites. You can store URL favorites and set a home page, as well as downloadJava-enabled games and additional sounds for your phone. An infrared portlets you beam data to other IR-equipped units. All of the many features of the S105 are easily accessed via the phones simple navigation interface. An oval-shaped four-position button is used for scrolling, and soft keys to the left and right allow for selection or cancellation/return to a previous menu. There is also a volume button on the side and a headphone jack for thehands-free ear microphone (included). For those times when youre stuck at the airport, there are three full-color games loaded on the S105. Of these, we like My Pet (you have to see it). Many of us want, even crave, the most futuristic devices, even ones that will provoke the curiosity and admiration of friends. To this end, the Samsung S105 should be the perfect choice. Its a spectacular instrument that does the basic work of a cell phone--and much more--in grand fashion. The S105 has it all and never disappoints. --John Bosch Pros: Cons: Features Reviews (1)

Let's just say that I am wonderfully surprised by the utility of this little unit.It does everything that I could desire, truly! It syncs effortlessly with other devices (my computer via IR, although you can use a USB connection; other devices by BlueTooth), making file transfer a breeze.I can view and edit documents in various common formats: Word, Excel, text/rich-text, PDF, Microsoft Reader, etc.The media capabilities allow me to store pictures, which display quite nicely on the large (~2x3") high-res screen; and I can play music and video, too -- although that is limited practically by the 32Mb internal storage (an expansion card is available). The PocketPC Phone Edition has a built-in IE web browser that functions via a GPRS connection.I have not paid for this service (appx $20/mo.), but I use the web browser often with download web pages, such as via AvantGo for news and views.Having your morning e-mail downloaded to the unit is wonderful, and makes my morning commute more productive.I greatly enjoy using the SMS message function on the phone, which allows me to text message other cell phones -- it's easier to use writing w/ a stylus than punching keys on a cell phone -- and there is an integrated In Box that stores and categorizes text messages, e-mails, sent items, etc.The Microsoft Windows CE operating system feels familiar, intuitive and functional. I will add here that the one feature that to me makes this all worthwhile is that it syncs perfectly with Microsoft Outlook, using its addressbook. No more entering numbers into my phone!I just view the addressbook entry (which shows name, address, home/work/cell phone, e-mail, etc.).Tap on e-mail, and I can write that person an e-mail.I can send an instant text message to that person's mobile phone.Tap on a phone number, and it dials. Some people may comment that T-Mobile's service lags behind other companies. In the past, I would have agreed. But, over the past few years, I believe it is on par with a lot of other companies, at least in Houston, Dallas and New York City, where I have lived, and major metropolitan areas, where I have travelled. This phone has great amplification of signal. The sound quality is good, too, and speakerphone is helpful when you are trying to talk on a noisy street. Overall, this phone has proved jam-packed with features that I use and enjoy.I am pleased with this purchase.

Amazon.com The petite T720i fits in a pocket but still offers some big features, such as a large, color screen; GPRS data transfer that supports EMS, SMS Chat, and MMS; and downloadable games, graphics, and ring tones. Possibly the most exciting feature of the T720i, however, is the included digital camera attachment, which lets you take photos from the phone itself and wirelessly send picture messages. This phone has a sleek metallic gray exterior and a delicate clamshell design that requires a little more care than Motorolas more rugged phones, such as the V66. When the cover is closed, an external LCD screen conveniently displays the date, time, and caller ID, plus signal and battery strength. When the flip phone is opened, the stunning 4,096-color screen is revealed. The 7- to 9-line screen is a large enough palette to take advantage of some of the phones key features, such as viewing photos, surfing the Web, or playing rich Java 2-powered games. (MotoGP is included, but more are downloadable from Motorolas Web site.) A button centered just under the screen takes you to the main menu, which has an intuitive iconic interface. This button is flanked by two other navigational buttons and another round, multi-directional button below helps you navigate through the menu or get right into four different features from the main screen according to your preference. Buttons are well-spaced but the multi-directional joystick-like button was a little bit difficult to control, even for small fingers. The T720i was one of the easiest phones to set preferences for that weve encountered. We programmed all of our buttons to go to the features we used the most and found it very handy. In addition, we customized the color of the main screen to pacific blue, a color choice that offered the best contrast, and set our screen saver to an EMS file of a devil. For our ring tone, we chose Deep Purples "Smoke on the Water," which, with the rich harmonies of polyphonic ringers, sounded almost like the original. The phone comes loaded with 50 different ring tones, so you can choose a more conservative ring or download additional choices. The sound during calls was a little bit tinny but not overly so. Our tests of the voice-activated dialing proved excellent. We recorded the name of our contact with a child screaming in the background and the phone still detected the contacts name later in a quiet room and dialed her number. The 720i holds up to 500 phone book entries, which is a large amount for the average caller. However, phone numbers and email addresses for one contact are stored as separate entries, filling up those 500 slots much more quickly. While a small letter icon designates which of your two entries is the email address, we still found it confusing. We sent a text message from the 720i to a friend from our address book and got a quick response, confirming that data transfer was fast. Inputting the message was tedious, but the phone includes a handy list of 10 Quick Notes with common text phrases, such as "Where is the meeting?" and "I am late and will be there in __ minutes." You can even compose and save your own phrases to save time on keying them in. The hot feature on this phone is its ability to take photos using the camera attachment. The picture-taking feature seems more fun than functional, but might be appealing for professionals such as home inspectors or insurance adjusters who need a cell phone and lightweight camera for their work. The camera snaps onto the bottom of the phone and has an 180-degree rotating lens to photograph everything from shoes to sky and store them as jpeg images in 640 x 480 resolution. It stores up to 48 pictures at a time, which you can then e-mail to friends or view on the T720is color screen as a photo album or slideshow. The only downside is that the digital camera shares memory with other digital applications on the phone, so storage space is limited. Overall we think this is a great phone for early adopters who want all the most recent innovations in one phoneWeb access, Java 2 games, MMS, and a digital camera. Its great for business use but the hip features will likely appeal more to the social cell phone user. --Cristina Vaamonde Pros: Cons: How We Tested Battery Talk/Standby Time When reading our reviews, you should view the test results of mobile-phonebattery talk time and standby time as relative information only. Many variables, including carrier signal strength at your location, signal consistency(including incoming and outgoing calls), display and ringer settings, andbattery charging methods and history, will affect performance. When handsetmanufacturers and mobile phone carriers list talk-time and standby-time ratings, they usually include disclaimers about variable performance and often refer tothe times they publish as maximum times. Some quote expected battery liferanges, and in this case you're probably safe to assume you'll experience atleast the minimum rated range. Note that manufacturers of dual-mode digital andanalog handsets publish battery-life rates for both digital and analog modes, asanalog mode consumes much more power than digital mode. Our Tests: We tested digital-mode talk and standby times with each phone.Prior to each test, we fully charged the phone's battery according to themanufacturer's directions. To test digital-phone talk time, we turned the phoneon, established a digital carrier signal, dialed a number in our test lab, and, when the call rang through, took the receiving phone's handset off the hook. When all went well, we didn't do anything else except record the time when thephone died. In a couple of cases, the phones lost the signal and dropped thecalls. If we were right there and could redial, we did so immediately andcontinued running the test. Otherwise, we halted the test, recharged thebattery, and started the test over. Assuming consistent carrier-signal strength, this test should represent best-case talk time. And it's worth noting thatseveral phones' talk-time performance significantly exceeded the manufacturers'ratings. To test digital-phone standby time, we turned the phone on, established acarrier signal, and left the phone in standby mode. We checked the phone everyfew hours (for what was often days on end) until the phone finally cut out.Since no outgoing or incoming calls occurred during testing and because thephone was not moved, this method should represent best-case standby time, againassuming consistent carrier signal strength.
