I have a Nokia 1100 Tracfone that saves me quite a bit of money from the monthly contracts i used to have with Cingular cellphone service. Tracfones are ideal for people with light or medium cellphone usage, so it works out well for me. The tracfone website is user friendly and makes it easy to perform functions such as activation, information gathering, or additional purchases. I got a referral from a friend before i activated, which got me 100 free minutes. Since then i have referred a neighbor's tracfone. I paid an extra $10. and got the car charger that just plugs into the cigarette lighter if the tracfone battery gets low when i'm driving.
I was pleasantly surprised to find some extras included free of charge on my tracfone- 2 games, a good selection of ringtones, a calculator, and voice mail. The main downside that i've seen is that you have to be disciplined in your tracfone usage unless you're prepared to buy more airtime/minutes cards. These range in price from $20. to $130. Overall, i'm quite happy with the tracfone.

Tracfone is Great
Tracfone has a great program if you refer someone to tracfone they recieve 100 free minutes and the person you refer does also its great!!!! You buy the phone and just keep the word going and you have a phone with unlimited minutes (...)! thanks the phones they have are great never have a problem and i live way out in no mans land

I like my Tracfone so far. Mine is small and has good reception. It's also nice that they let the unused minutes carry over month to month without ever taking them away.

Great Deal
We did without cellphones for 6mo...was tired of the costly monthly charge and being stuck in a contract.We bought this phone over $30.00 cheaper so shop around.

The Sidekick II is designed to be easy to use in every way. Many users complained about the original Sidekick's lack of buttons for quick access to basic functions. All that has been remedied in this new model. New dual purpose dedicated send/end and page up/down buttons make it easier to place calls and surf the Web. Previously, users had to go into the settings menu of the device to change the volume, but new dedicated external buttons make the process easier and more intuitive. What's more, there's now an external power button-- no more opening the display to turn the handset on. amazon charges way too much
first of all, i have owned this phone, and it's great for instant messaging and text messaging. however, web access is pretty slow, so if that's your main reason for buying, i suggest you look elsewhere. the camera is bad too, even by camera phone standards.

I currently have a nextel i730 and my contract ends in september. I am definetly getting the sidekick but i have to get the prepaid since i don't use a lot of minutes. Well this phone is awsome!
It is not good, for long conversations, cause talking on it, is a bit odd......
Internet is pretty fast , when you diable pictures, I use to for yahoo and sports scores mostly.
AIM, is lightening fast..Just as quick as my home computer.
Comes with one free rocket game that is terrible.. other games cost like 5$. Great ring tones, 2$ a piece..even though there is a bad selection (about 200 songs/sound effects/alerts)....When set to loudest ring volume, its super loud!. (good for using as alarm clock..)

5$ for alarm clock time traveler, but its awsome. You can set tons of alarms ... Your (PRE) sleep button.
The camera, is good for daytime photos. No use to even try it at night, or inside dark resturants/bars. The flash is almost useless. stores 36 pictures...but you can just email them out in seconds., so you really dont need to store them.....
I havnt set up my mail, but it looks cool...
Some people complain about SPEAKER PHONE volume, its not that bad, it could be louder.

The tracfones are good for people who don't require heavy cell phone usage. Basically you have to keep the phone active by buying month or year cards. If you run out of minutes then you have to buy more of those too.

great phone
The Motorola T120 is not going to win any design awards, but it is really one of the best phones I have ever used from a practical perspective, which is what counts. The durability is far superior to the flimsy flip phones that currently saturate the market. Battery life is also outstanding.

works for me
This is a good option for the light user.I only carry it so my kids can reach me in case of emergencies or for very brief calls or messages.It's been fine, and in my area the coverage has been good even inside large buildings.I have used it on longer trips too and found the roaming reception fine. I bought the 1 year card and got 100 free bonus minutes through a promotional deal online.I have had no problems activating the phone, adding minutes, setting up voicemail, etc.I have not had any reason to deal with customer service, so can't speak to that.For me it's been a reliable, affordable option as a person who doesn't use a cell phone enough to warrant a monthly service plan.

Tracfone has no customer service :(
I have had one TERRIBLE experience with Tracfone that has lasted over a month.I ordered the Motorola v60 and year card on special for $139.98.When I got the phone I had difficulty activating it, called in and was told I was sent the wrong technology phone.I was sent a TDMA phone and my area is a CDMA.Sent phone back and I had to pay for shipping out of my pocket.Got a second phone, still the wrong phone.Sent that phone back, and now more shipping costs out of my pocket.So I waited a few more days, no contact saying they were sending another phone, so I sent in an email saying I am canceling my order.The following week another phone showed up - this time I refused the package and called in to customer service again.I was told I purchased the phone card and there is no refunds on the cards.Today I finally discovered a web site that lists some very interesting information on Tracfone.http://www.bestfrauds.com/tracfone2.html.With the information at this web site I was able to contact the correct person directly (Executive Resolution Department Manager 1-800-339-9345) and was told I will receive a fill refund with in 5 business days.I will not recommend Tracfone to any one, their customer service is terrible and I wish I would have found and read this web site above before I made the purchase; it would have saved me a ton of grief.I had Virgin Mobile and they are wonderful, but offer no coverage in my current location.I will now try T-mobile, with better luck (at lease their customer. service is open 24hrs, major +++)

Tracfone is the way to go
If you don't want to spend a lot of money each month for a plan that makes you sign up for two years, try Tracfone. After I started it, many of my workmates and friends have switched to Tracfone. If you decide it is not for you, all you have lost is the actual purchase price of the phone and the minutes that come with it, still less than what you pay to the likes of Verizon each month. The phone features a traditional clamshell design with a 128 x 160 TFT color display with 65,000 colors. VM V7 Flasher is a nice next step, phone wise for VM!!!!!
I have had my V7 Flasher for over a month now, and i love it.I dont talk much on it, but if i go out i know i have a line for people to get a hold of me.The camera was the main draw for me, the XL content is also a nice up grade for this phone to.Since it uses the Sprint PCS net work i have coverage almost every place i have been, with is nice because i have family in a different state so traveling is not issue.

This phone is great, I really like the camara and the LCD screen but from a 3rd party review the speakers are really low. The games and Virgin XL is great and ringtones sound awsome. The service is all about You and its really good for people buying their first cell phone or do not have 2nd o r 3rd jobs just to support their talking.

i am 14 years old and this is my first phone, i have had it for about 5 months and have been very happy.

Pros-
desigined for teen usage, good graphics

camera is surprisingly good, nice customizations such as colorful borders, zoom, brightness, image effect, quality and contrast.

menu is very colorful- a pleasure to the eye

good functions such as voice recording, calculator, alarm, stopwatch, schedular and world clock

flash is somewhat useful

easy to use messaging- t9 (easy to get used to) funny emoticons,

can put on silencer by holding down *

easy to top up, etc...

VxL is nice, however expensive, nice ringtones, the ones which try tosound like the song however are crap

the purchasable graphics are very nice at 1.50 apiece, however you can just use pictures as your background

contacts- very easy to personalize (personal ringtone, picture, and message tone,

security- can lock your phone so no one can place a call, go on the browser, look at recent calls, look at pictures, or contacts without entering a password (good for nosy friends)

Cons-

the ringer is kind of quiet, however if you are a teen and this is one of your first phones it won't bother you because you can hear it

much more worth it to get a monthly plan, $40 at a monthly plan buys you anywhere from 450 to 600 mins (15-20 minutes per day)however $40at virgin mobile buys you 160 minutes or around5 to 6 minutes perday, and if your buying it to spend less money than a plan (say 30 dollars- 120 minutes a day) thats 4 minutes perday.

This phone is excellent. Of course, it is he best of all the virgin mobile phones for many reasons. A few include, it has a camera, picture messaging, a flash for the camera, and Virgin XL. I would recommend this phone to any virgin mobile user.

The tracfones are good for people who don't require heavy cell phone usage. Basically you have to keep the phone active by buying month or year cards. If you run out of minutes then you have to buy more of those too.

Birthday present for my oldest.
This was my second Tracfone purchase. It is for my eldest son. Worst company I've ever dealt with
The basic premise for Tracfone is solid, and in general they provide a needed alternative to the big wireless carriers and their expensive monthly plans.They also seem to have solid wireless coverage by selling a variety of phones that work on different technologies (TDMA, CDMA, GSM).But, if you ever have to deal with them on a problem with your phone, and you need to return your phone for whatever reason, good luck.I originally purchased a reconditioned Nokia 2285, and the battery would not hold a charge.I sent it back.They sent me a Nokia 1221 as a replacement.I sent it back (not the phone I purchased).I pleaded with them to send me the 2285 (I wanted a CDMA phone that had a vibrate feature - the 1221 is TDMA and has no vibrate).They sent one, but the back did not stay on.I sent it back.The sent me another 1221.I sent it back, this time with the postage paid by them - not in compensation units.I pleaded with them again to send a 2285; they promised they would.They sent me another 1221.The reason?In my area, there are more TDMA towers, so that was the phone THEY (the warehouse) felt I should have.They told me that the 2285 did not work in my area, even though I confirmed that it would before the purchase and, in fact, it worked fine while the battery was charged.After dealing with numerous supervisors, who promised they would call me with information on my case but never did, I decided I'm done.I'm accepting delivery of the wrong phone and selling it to the highest bidder on ebay and I'm done with Tracfone.

Yes, they gave me compensation minutes for all my trouble (didn't come close to the amount of aggravation), and the CSRswere generally curteous (their customer service centers are somewhere outside of the US - South America?), but when they tried to give me compensation minutes for a phone I did not want, I almost gave up.After the third wrong phone, I gave up.It's next to impossible to speak to a supervisor; I had to force the issue to get what I wanted.Even with the help of supervisors, they could not send the correct phone.There is also no way to reach anyone in their corporate office to complain.There is no accountability with them.I suppose that as long as you don't have to interface with customer service for anything, you are okay, because they plug into the wireless networks of all the major players.But if I can't even get an exchange for the correct phone, there is something very wrong with they way they do business.Go with other prepaid options if that's what you're looking for, but stay away from Tracfone.

Can be good but can be disappointing
The Virginmobile payment non-plan plan can be good for those who use a mobile phone infrequently, which I do.It could be terrible for those who use it most days. After getting used to the interface, this can be a likeable phone.If you happen to be where the signal is strong, clarity can be excellent.However, even well within the service area I have had weak signals and broken calls. That's not surprising in the building where I work.It is surprising in my apartment. The voice volume is low, even when set to level 5.It can be fine in quiet surroundings, but it's a struggle to hear in moderately noisy environments.
There are no roaming fees, because there is normally no connectivity outside Sprint's digital service area.According to the manual 911 calls can connect in the roaming areas. I have not tested this.
Battery life is disappointing.In standby the 1000mAH battery supplied is only good for about two days between charges.I bought the optional 1700mAH battery from Audiovox.It's twice as thick as the standard battery, and it extends standby to three days between charges.
The minimal features of this phone don't bother me, but deficient signal strength, volume, and battery life make me covet a real phone from another company.

That other review above about the "warning of the customer service" is ridiculous. Once I had my phone stolen and customer service helped me through it, were quick in replying to my order for a new phone, and even paid for the minutes the thief used! It's the best customer service I've seen for any company, hands down. This phone has great features, and cool ringtones. It's a great deal for it's price and it has cool color screen backgrounds. I would give this phone the best rating possible!

Pleased So Far...
This phone and Virgin Mobile as a whole are obviously targeting an age group other than my own. Quite frankly, I don't care. I dropped traditional land-based phone service in February, and went with AT&T CallVantage VOIP service instead...a tremendous savings, but when the power goes out, VOIP phone service goes as well. Also, with CallVantage as of this date, 911 calls do not provide the answering call center with your phone number and location automatically.

The Audiovox 8610 phone, coupled with Virgin Mobile, seemed like an inexpensive supplement to CallVantage, filling some very unpleasant gaps...and E911 service is provided. Features such as speed dial, caller ID, and even a speakerphone are included, and I'm extremely pleased with the voice quality. It's almost indistinguishable from a corded phone.

For the age bracket that this phone is marketed towards, there are also two games included, and several wallpaper designs. A ton of downloadable ringtones are available at the Virgin website, provided that you don't mind spending $2.00 to $2.50 apiece for them...want to hear the "Meow Mix" ad when a call comes in? It's available for download at the Virgin website, as are ringtones involving such oddities as bodily functions, none of which will be discussed in detail here.

Per minute pricing is high enough to keep me from ever using this phone other than when it is absolutely necessary (25 cents for the first 10 minutes each day, 10 cents per minute afterwards), but that's okay with me. Unexpected emergencies were the sole reason for making the purchase, and the added peace of mind that it brings more than makes up for the airtime that must be purchased from Virgin every 90 days to keep the service active...and I'm still saving money each month over traditional phone service.

I would recommend the Audiovox 8610 phone and Virgin Wireless to anyone who needs a cell phone for similar reasons.

A good, basic mobile phone.
I purchased this phone for my wife as an anniversary gift earlier this year. Thus far we are very pleased with it. Keep in mind: this is a PHONE. If you're looking for something that will allow you to play games, chat with friends, and browse the Internet, you need something else (like a PDA/phone). As a phone this is a nice product.

First, the phone itself: very nice. It is well-built, and we feel that the screen is easy to read. Sound quality is good, and when listening to someone using this phone they sound good as well.

Some people gripe about the keypad's lack of raised keys and poor backlighting. This has not been a problem for us. The keys aren't raised, but this has never caused us discomfort. The backlighting could be better, but it isn't difficult at all to dial without looking--the key layout is the same on every touch-tone phone, so this isn't foreign territory. Use of the phone's software is straightforward for the most part, although there are some things that are confusing, and the manual is no help.

As for the prepaid phone service, make sure you do your research. We selected T-Mobile because the pricing options were more in-line with what our use would be. Text messages are free to receive, which is great, because instead of calling my wife to tell her something (and using airtime) I can send her a text message via e-mail, which she can read (using no airtime).

Thus far, where we are (Oakland, Livermore, Silicon Valley, CA) and where we go, coverage has been great.

If you need a basic mobile phone and don't plan to do a lot of talking, this is an excellent option.

Worst coverage of any phone I've had.
I had this phone and tmobile service. Like the reviewer before me, I had no signal 90 percent of the time. Tmobile has no roaming for their prepaid.The phone was useless. On the bright side, I found a prepaid phone that not only has coverage were I need it but, because of all their roaming agreements, the phone has coverage in more places than any phone I've had previously. Inow have a motorola v60i with Tracfone. I can roam on many different providers.I purchased a year card so my phone is paid up for a whole year! Before I switched to tracfone, I read online from someones post that If you get what Tracfone calls a "Referral", before you activate your tracfone, you get 100 free minutes when you activate. I had someone email me one and it worked great! That beats any company I've had thus far. sunnyryanj is my yahoo address and you may request a referral from me if you decide on tracfone. Choose wisely, What good is a phone if you never get good reception on it? Don't waste money like I did. I've had all these prepaid services;Verizon prepay,cellular one, virgin mobile, boost mobile,Tmobile and now tracfone. None of the others allows the roaming that tracfone does. And most don't have the year card service, most erase your minutes every month!

Much Better than Verizon
I couldn't be happier with this lightweight and thoroughly useful device. I wanted a simply pre-paid phone with good coverage and reception. It delivers this in spades.

The features, such as instant access to the lates news and sports is wonderful. The keys and menus are logically laid out and very easy to learn.

I first tried a phone from Verizon Wireless that was an unmitigated disaster. The differences between the two plans and the phones couldn't be more stark.

I heartily recommend this phone and T-Mobile's pre-paid plan.

Great Phone, Best Performance!
I bought this phone several months ago because my old (...)cell phone had no reception in the office where I work. I choose this phone because it has an exceptionally high rating for performance on the CNET cell phone reviews (...). This one has at least half the bars all the time and it has never lost signal where ever I have taken, including places where most other phones don't work, even in a basement! It is also a very loud phone with a brightly lit color screen. Although the screen resolution is a little lower than the more expensive models, it is easy to read.

It comes with all the basic features including some nice ones such as wallpapers and screensavers and a nifty feature called timed profiles which means that you set your ring tone and alert preferences and they will revert to normal at a time that you specify. It also includes a basic organizer and comes loaded with 4 games (Sky Diver, Backgammon, Bowling and Air Glide). You can download additional ring tones and graphics but the prepaid plan does not support game downloads. By default it comes loaded with a nice variety of ring tones and most users will find one that appeals to them. Yahoo!, MSN, AOL and ICQ instant messengers are also included.

The keyboard layout is rather strange and that is the only real shortcoming of this phone. However, once you get used to it, it is not a bother. Overall, this is a great little phone which offers exceptional performance and all the basic features. I bought it directly from the T-Mobile website where it was selling for less, so you may want to check the price there before buying. T-Mobile recently increased the minutes that you get from some of the prepaid cards and lowered the limit for Gold Rewards program participation to $100 which makes it an even better deal.

I wasn't that impressed with signal strength
I had this phone with Tmobile. I didn't get signal in a number of areas. My keypad became faulty after 3 months and I couldn't dial certain numbers.My friend had a tracfone and got signal in way more places than I did.(he has the v60i-cdma vers.) I bought a tracfone, had him send me a referral through tracfones promotional referral deal, activated the phone and got 100 free minutes for the referral.I'll send you one if you think you are going to get a tracfone instead,just email me(before you activate phone!). I have the v60i now too and I'm so much happier with it. They also have GSM phones, nokia 1100 and 2600.

3 1/2 Stars...And it's Not Bad
I got this phone free when I signed up for Cingular almost 2 years ago.It's not a bad phone.The ringer can be very loud if you don't set it to the lower volume, which can be a plus if you're in a noisy area, but a minus if you work in an office!

My biggest complaint is because it's not a "flip" type phone, if I have the phone in my purse, it tends to get hit very easily on the number pad and ends up calling a speed dial that I've programmed...not good when someone is listening to you and you don't know it! :0)

It's a little bulky since they can make phones so thin now, but overall, especially since I didn't pay anything for it, I'd give it high marks as far as cell phones go.I don't need a lot of "extra" gadgets, so if they're missing from this phone, I don't miss them.

T-Mobile Nokia 3595 Prepaid Phone
The phone is great and the sound is EXCEPTIONALLY LOUD. If you were in an auditorium or movie theater and want to sneak a game in with the volume at its LOWEST, forget it! Keep this phone in silent mode if you don't want to be embarassed - at the same time, now that the audio quality is pretty good. Reception-wise, the phone can only be as good as the service will let it and within the Washington DC Metero area, I would say that it is a notch below Sprint. Don't expect it to work in every building you go into even if other carriers do. Blame it on coverage, though, not the phone itself. Overall, it's very much so worth it (and cheaper at T-Mobile's website as of this review).

About the Nokia 6800

The Nokia 6800 is simply a phone made for text input. The basic looking phone hides a full QWERTY keyboard (though obviously with smaller keys than you're used to) under the numeric keypad. Just flip it up and turn the device 90¼ to use the keyboard. Its unique design is only featured on the 6800 series and offers the largest full keyboard of any consumer level mobile phone in the US. The only problem with the keyboard is that because it's quite wide, it's hard to handle with one hand. If you want to jot a text message while walking, you'll have better luck by using predictive text on the numerical keypad. While sitting down, or stationary, the keyboard is very hard to beat.

It's hard to beat the Nokia 6800 keyboard's ease of use.

Even though the Nokia 6800 is made for text, it does a great job at voice. Call quality is excellent and dropped calls should be few and far between. It has the standard Nokia series 40 operating system that should be familiar to users of past Nokia models. A joystick in the middle below the screen serves as the main navigation tool. When the keyboard is flipped out it makes using the joystick slightly awkward, since it's to the side of the screen.

The Nokia 6800 ties in very easily with your existing email account and it even supports IMAP which is email technology that keeps email in sync across multiple devices (your phone and computer for instance). It doesn't have fully push email like a BlackBerry, but you can set email to be automatically checked at short intervals. Text and data plans from T-Mobile USA are some of the most affordable in the industry, which is a good thing since you will find yourself using these services a lot.

Like other phones with a built-in radio, the Nokia 6800 uses the wired handsfree unit as an antenna. This means you'll have to plug-in the handsfree before the radio will work, which is a minor inconvenience. The screen is large enough to handle most mobile web content, such as sports scores and weather information. Since the 6800 has GPRS, it downloads data at about the same speed as a dial-up internet connection. Java MIDP 1.0 support is included, so all sorts of applications can be installed. A currency converter, portfolio manager and two games come pre-installed. Custom ring tones can be downloaded in various formats, including MIDI.

The Nokia 6800 weighs 4.3 ounces and measures4.69" x 2.17" x 0.91". It's a little longer than most phones out there, but having a full keyboard more than makes up for it. Lousy performance
The problem with Virgin phones is they use the Sprint network.It's highly unusual that I don't get a dropped call or someone complaining that I'm cutting out real bad.I work very close to the Sprint campus and tower.I can't even stand outside in the parking lot and call across the street without the other person saying I'm cutting out.Don't be a sucker--choose a better phone.

The most awesome Virgin Mobile phone around!
I just bought this phone for my boyfriend and he never had one so he absolutely LOVED it. ^.^ Personally, I thought it was pretty cool as well. I mean blue and black and red and pink are my favorite colors and it's a bargain to have the screening BLUE!! Before I sent it to him (Long distance relationsip), I was playing with it and it's SOOOOO cool. Recommended....
....I would recommend Tracfone to anyone who wants to get away from cell phone contracts.Tracfone has been reviewed as a phone for the occasional user, but... I own one. ;-)I use my phone alot, [...] Tracfone's customer service has been complained about, but I've used them once and they got my problem solved.The only problem was that they sounded foreign (no disrepect 2 anyone)-- so I had to really listen to every word to make sure I knew what they were saying (a lil' communication barrier).

Great and inexpensive for occasional use
I got two Nokia 2285 Tracfones for my wife and me after looking at the alternative of spending around $70 each month including taxes for the next two years with a Verizon contract (plus activation fees etc.). So far everything works great. Despite all the negative comments on the internet I found their customer service to be prompt, friendly and helpful. Yes, they have an accent, but so do I... Activation through the webpage is easy, although a little lengthy with dozens of numbers to type into the phone. I got a referral from a friend, which is worth 100 minutes and 2 months of service. I "referred" my wife's phone after activating mine, which gave us another 100 minutes and 2 months of service each. So we ended up with two phones which can remain active for the next 6-8 months and a few hundred minutes each, all for less than what I would have spent at Verizon every month.
I like the fact that you only pay 2 minutes per minute when roaming (roaming means you are outside of your normal calling area, around 50 miles from home depending on where you live), while a friend of mine recently complained about paying several dollars per minute when roaming on her 2-year-plan phone. With Tracfone there are never any surprises. Also calls of less than 15 seconds are always free, great for busy signals or when you just want to check if it works.
Tracfone does not have coverage outside of the US. This is why I gave it four stars. It would be nice to be able to use it in Canada.

The battery doesn't last as long as they say it does.I get about 72 hours on standby.I use it for emergencies and those times when I'm out and need to call home.I really like that you can enable GPS for 911 calls.A very good option for me.The display is very bright (doubles as a flashlight for me in a pinch) and the functions are easy to navigate.The built in games are cheesy, but fun when you're waiting and there's nothing else to do.

Tracfone's service...

I have no problems at all.Recently though, every time I send a text message the system sends me back one that says "message delivered" and it charges me .5 units for it.After a few wasted units, I learned not to choose "view" and to just choose exit and manually go to text messages where the first 10 characters are visible and delete it without paying for it.To me, they're just trying to force me to use a whole unit on sending one text instead of a half unit.Overall though, I find that I get the minutes I pay for and the service is A+ ... A decent phone by Nokia, but nothing special
This is a very good phone for anyone who is a Nokia fan or who doesn't want anything fancy.It will call people and receive calls.It has a color screen, downloadable ring tones and games, and has a decent audio quality.There is no camera or bluetooth or advanced organization tools.It is growing increasingly outdated and by a year from now hardly anybody will be using it anymore, but if you own this phone I wouldn't go running to throw it out just yet.It gets the job done, but isn't going to wow you in the process.

Perfect phone for light use
I bought this phone as part of my T-Mobile EasySpeak prepaid package and am happy with it so far.I'll admit it's my first cell phone so I don't have anything to compare it with, but it seems to work well and has more features than I'll ever need.I just want to be able to easily store a handful of numbers, make and receive calls with good reception, and occasionally check my account balance, and this phone does all that well.Also the color screen is a nice feature.It probably isn't as high a resolution as on higher end phones, but it's still much better than black & white.It has many other features like voice dialing, text messaging, instant messaging, calendar, games, etc. that I don't see myself using much, so if you're interested in all the bells and whistles you'll have to do some research to make sure the phone has what you're looking for.One problem you probably can't avoid is it takes a while to get comfortable doing the simple tasks you want since there's just so many features included in the phone.But I'd say it's still probably about as simple as could be expected.

How We Tested Battery-Talk/Standby Time

When reading our reviews, you should view the test results of mobile-phone battery talk time and standby time as relative information only. Many variables, including carrier signal strength at your location, signal consistency (including incoming and outgoing calls), display and ringer settings, and battery charging methods and history, will affect performance. When handset manufacturers and mobile phone carriers list talk-time and standby-time ratings, they usually include disclaimers about variable performance and often refer to the times they publish as maximum times. Some quote expected battery life ranges, and in this case you're probably safe to assume you'll experience at least the minimum rated range. Note that manufacturers of dual-mode digital and analog handsets publish battery-life rates for both digital and analog modes, as analog mode consumes much more power than digital mode.

Our Tests: We tested digital-mode talk and standby times with each phone. Prior to each test, we fully charged the phone's battery according to the manufacturer's directions. To test digital-phone talk time, we turned the phone on, established a digital carrier signal, dialed a number in our test lab, and, when the call rang through, took the receiving phone's handset off the hook. When all went well, we didn't do anything else except record the time when the phone died. In a couple of cases, the phones lost the signal and dropped the calls. If we were right there and could redial, we did so immediately and continued running the test. Otherwise, we halted the test, recharged the battery, and started the test over. Assuming consistent carrier-signal strength, this test should represent best-case talk time. And it's worth noting that several phones' talk-time performance significantly exceeded the manufacturers' ratings.

To test digital-phone standby time, we turned the phone on, established a carrier signal, and left the phone in standby mode. We checked the phone every few hours (for what was often days on end) until the phone finally cut out. Great in a pinch ...
This is a pretty good phone for the price.I take mine with me anytime I leave home for emergencies, etc.It also comes in real handy when my power goes out ... in the hills of PA, that's fairly often.I hardly need to make calls so my minutes go far, all I have to do is add 40 minutes every 60 days and I'm good to go.It may lack some of the fancier features like vibrating alert but it serves its purpose.I would highly recommend this phone as a "safety net".

The minutes on the Tracfone service can get a little expensive if you use it for non-topic-specific just-to-talk calls to friends, but it does help if you're stranded somewhere and you don't have a quarter or a calling card.Reception in my little part of the country is great; I usually recieve full bars, and considering I live in the mountains of Maine, it's pretty surprising.

I travel constantly and have not encountered any problems with reception. I highly recommend either the Nokia 2600 or 1100 because of their no roaming set-up. They are both GSM phones and utilize the same nationwide network as T-Mobile/Cingular.

Its changeablefaceplates, 30 different ringers (and room for 5 downloadable tones), and an expansive world of accessories, makes the5125 a fun, general-purpose phone. And with predictive T9 text input, wireless business card and e-mail capabilities,Nokia has created a more competent business communications tool (although they have yet to introduce a Web-enabled phone).

Weighing in at 6.2 ounces (including battery), the 5125 measures 5.2 inches high, 1.85 inches wide, and 1.2 inches deep,not counting a stubby antenna that extends another 0.7 inches. As a moderate-weight, midsize phone, the 5125 is highlyportable. It's also extremely rugged in typical mobile phone environments--including being thrown into bags and cases andoccasionally dropped on the ground.

Four buttons handle most of the menu navigation: a hefty button in the middle that Nokia calls the Navi key, up and downarrow buttons that control volume during calls, and a key marked "C" for "clear." Menu navigation is very intuitive. Ifyou tap the Navi key, the first of a series of graphical menu items pops up. Hit the Navi key again to drill down tooptions within the menu or tap the up or down arrow keys to choose a different menu. The top-level menu choices are phonebook, messages (SMS and voice mail alerts), call log, settings (for calls, phone, and security), system, games (Memory,Snake, and Logic), clock, tones, and keypad lock. The brightly backlit display works well with the control keys tosimplify finding and making choices. In text mode, five 16-character lines are displayed.

If you like distinctive ringing tones, you'll be satiated with the 5125, which lets you select from 30 preprogrammedtones. You can also download an additional five ringer tones from your service provider's website, if applicable. Andwhile there's no internal vibration mode, an optional vibrating battery is available. You also can store electronicbusiness cards in your phone book. Any friend or associate can forward their name, number and e-mail to your phone, andyou can automatically store their information with some deft menu navigation.

One caveat worth mentioning: Not all faceplates work with the 5125 phone. Nokia-brand faceplates will work, but faceplatesfrom other manufacturers will not fit the 5125. Although this is a 5100-series phone, the keypad is a unique size, and itdoes not accommodate other manufacturer's faceplates.

The Nokia 5125 has the usual array of standard call and messaging features. If supported by your carrier, you can use thisphone with caller ID, call waiting, call forwarding, and voice mail alerts. A call history maintains the last 10 dialednumbers, 10 most recently received calls, and 10 missed calls. The phone supports two-way SMS text messaging, but is notWAP- or Internet-enabled.

The 5125 offers four basic security features: An initial security code, keypad lock, call-restriction modes, and a lockcode that can activate or deactivate memory and menu options. One nice thing about the lock-code feature is you can storenumbers in a secret unlocked location, which will allow you to make calls even if the phone is locked.

The 5125's NiMH battery is rated to last up to 180 minutes of digital talk time and 200 hours of digital standby time. Inour testing, we achieved 180 minutes of digital talk time and over 225 hours of digital standby time.

Overall, Nokia's 5125 is a noteworthy addition to their 5100-series phones. Choose your favorite faceplate color andringer tone and shock the world!

How We Tested Battery-Talk/Standby Time

When reading our reviews, you should view the test results of mobile-phone battery talk time and standby time as relative information only. Many variables, including carrier signal strength at your location, signal consistency (including incoming and outgoing calls), display and ringer settings, and battery charging methods and history, will affect performance. When handset manufacturers and mobile phone carriers list talk-time and standby-time ratings, they usually include disclaimers about variable performance and often refer to the times they publish as maximum times. Some quote expected battery life ranges, and in this case you're probably safe to assume you'll experience at least the minimum rated range. Note that manufacturers of dual-mode digital and analog handsets publish battery-life rates for both digital and analog modes, as analog mode consumes much more power than digital mode.

Our Tests: We tested digital-mode talk and standby times with each phone. Prior to each test, we fully charged the phone's battery according to the manufacturer's directions. To test digital-phone talk time, we turned the phone on, established a digital carrier signal, dialed a number in our test lab, and, when the call rang through, took the receiving phone's handset off the hook. When all went well, we didn't do anything else except record the time when the phone died. In a couple of cases, the phones lost the signal and dropped the calls. If we were right there and could redial, we did so immediately and continued running the test. Otherwise, we halted the test, recharged the battery, and started the test over. Assuming consistent carrier-signal strength, this test should represent best-case talk time. And it's worth noting that several phones' talk-time performance significantly exceeded the manufacturers' ratings.

To test digital-phone standby time, we turned the phone on, established a carrier signal, and left the phone in standby mode. We checked the phone every few hours (for what was often days on end) until the phone finally cut out. Since no outgoing or incoming calls occurred during testing and because the phone was not moved, this method should represent best-case standby time, again assuming consistent carrier signal strength. ... Tracfone
The tracfones are good for people who don't require heavy cell phone usage. Basically you have to keep the phone active by buying month or year cards. If you run out of minutes then you have to buy more of those too. The minutes on the Tracfone service can get a little expensive if you use it for non-topic-specific just-to-talk calls to friends, but it does help if you're stranded somewhere and you don't have a quarter or a calling card.Reception in my little part of the country is great; I usually recieve full bars, and considering I live in the mountains of Maine, it's pretty surprising.

Advice for customer service +300 free minutes
I purchased my phone with a 1-year plan ($8/mo.) and have been happy with both phone and service. Others have posted complaints however. When all else fails, contact the little known Executive Resolutions Department with this link. All one line:

I travel constantly and have not encountered any problems with reception. I highly recommend either the Nokia 2600 or 1100 because of their no roaming set-up. They are both GSM phones and utilize the same nationwide network as T-Mobile/Cingular.

Its nice
I've had this phone for about 4-5 months. Its a nice phone but I want something up to date like the audiovox 8610. I think it can have better reception though. The games are kind of boring also. I recommend it to people getting their first phone.

Try to find out what the minutes cost on the website
I considered purchasing a T-Mobile phone but after going to the website and looking under the prepaid phone section under the heading important information (which was on the left side of the screen) I saw that each domestic minute cost $.30 - .50 a minute. I wasn't so sure after that, even if the phones do look nice. I settled on a virgin mobile phone $.25 a minute for the first ten minutes and then $.10 for the rest of the day.I mean if you are looking for special features you should consider

T-mobile, but that wasn't my main focus in looking for a cell phone.

This phone is really good if you are looking for a phone with nationwide coverage. Only with T-Mobile you can send Text messages all around the world. I am using it to send messages to my friends in Europe and it works (you get even a delivery report)!!! You dont need to sign anything. Just buy it and use it without any restrictions. No monthly payments with this phone. And NOKIA is best brand in cell phones.

It fell apart
When I first got this phone I thought that it was pretty good.Although I had previously used verizon's freeup and virgin mobile was more expensive.The phone though, had a very diappointing not so clear screen.The ringer to the phone could be louder and you never even notice when it vibrates. The keys to the phone are not risen so it can be hard to dial. The color schemes, wallpapers, and screen savers are all pretty lame and you lack a choice.They all promote MTV and who wants an MTV background?After having this phone for around a year, the back part where the battery is attached fell off and would not reattach.I never even mistreated this phone in any way and I just opened my purse one day to find it that way.As a result the phone never stayed together in the right manner so it would automatically turn itself off over and over again.I would not suggest that anyone by this phone.It is so not worth the money.It's also on clearance on virgin mobile's website...I wonder why.

Virgin Mobile Rules Pay As You Go!
I <3 my slider not only because its lightweight and compact, has a full color screen, and works perfectly in places where friends phone wont. I also love it because of the awsome VM extras, and not having to pay a set monthly charge, you can pay as little as 20$ every 90 days, unlike other service providers, Tmobile coming up with the most inexpence monthly bill i've seen @ 20$ a month for 500 minutes. The most you'll pay with VM is 20$ for every 500minutes and thats IF you only talk for 10 minutes of each day. After the first ten its only 0.10 a minute, alot less than most others.
Dare to be diffrent. Be a paygoist instead. ;-D

I love my virgin mobile v5 phone. its small, compact, and best of all it slides instead of flips. I've had no problems with it at all, the text messaging is great, the games are great. I really like tetris. and *mtv and virgin xtras are espescially useful because you can get ringtones for your phone from your phone. you can also add airtime to your account right from your phone! overall, if your thinking about getting this, you should.
