The petite T720i fits in a pocket but still offers some big features, such as a large, color screen; GPRS data transfer that supports EMS, SMS Chat, and MMS; and downloadable games, graphics, and ring tones. Possibly the most exciting feature of the T720i, however, is the included digital camera attachment, which lets you take photos from the phone itself and wirelessly send picture messages.

This phone has a sleek metallic gray exterior and a delicate clamshell design that requires a little more care than Motorola’s more rugged phones, such as the V66. When the cover is closed, an external LCD screen conveniently displays the date, time, and caller ID, plus signal and battery strength. When the flip phone is opened, the stunning 4,096-color screen is revealed.

The 7- to 9-line screen is a large enough palette to take advantage of some of the phone’s key features, such as viewing photos, surfing the Web, or playing rich Java 2-powered games. (MotoGP is included, but more are downloadable from Motorola’s Web site.) A button centered just under the screen takes you to the main menu, which has an intuitive iconic interface. This button is flanked by two other navigational buttons and another round, multi-directional button below helps you navigate through the menu or get right into four different features from the main screen according to your preference. Buttons are well-spaced but the multi-directional joystick-like button was a little bit difficult to control, even for small fingers.

The T720i was one of the easiest phones to set preferences for that we’ve encountered. We programmed all of our buttons to go to the features we used the most and found it very handy. In addition, we customized the color of the main screen to pacific blue, a color choice that offered the best contrast, and set our screen saver to an EMS file of a devil. For our ring tone, we chose Deep Purple’s "Smoke on the Water," which, with the rich harmonies of polyphonic ringers, sounded almost like the original. The phone comes loaded with 50 different ring tones, so you can choose a more conservative ring or download additional choices.

The sound during calls was a little bit tinny but not overly so. Our tests of the voice-activated dialing proved excellent. We recorded the name of our contact with a child screaming in the background and the phone still detected the contact’s name later in a quiet room and dialed her number. The 720i holds up to 500 phone book entries, which is a large amount for the average caller. However, phone numbers and email addresses for one contact are stored as separate entries, filling up those 500 slots much more quickly. While a small letter icon designates which of your two entries is the email address, we still found it confusing.

We sent a text message from the 720i to a friend from our address book and got a quick response, confirming that data transfer was fast. Inputting the message was tedious, but the phone includes a handy list of 10 Quick Notes with common text phrases, such as "Where is the meeting?" and "I am late and will be there in __ minutes." You can even compose and save your own phrases to save time on keying them in.

The hot feature on this phone is its ability to take photos using the camera attachment. The picture-taking feature seems more fun than functional, but might be appealing for professionals such as home inspectors or insurance adjusters who need a cell phone and lightweight camera for their work. The camera snaps onto the bottom of the phone and has an 180-degree rotating lens to photograph everything from shoes to sky and store them as jpeg images in 640 x 480 resolution. It stores up to 48 pictures at a time, which you can then e-mail to friends or view on the T720i’s color screen as a photo album or slideshow. The only downside is that the digital camera shares memory with other digital applications on the phone, so storage space is limited.

Overall we think this is a great phone for early adopters who want all the most recent innovations in one phone—Web access, Java 2 games, MMS, and a digital camera. It’s great for business use but the hip features will likely appeal more to the social cell phone user. --Cristina Vaamonde

Pros:

  • Separate camera attachment for taking photos and sending picture messages
  • Fast GPRS data transfer
  • Java 2 for playing graphically enriched games
  • Easy to customize

Cons:

  • Phone number and Web address for one contact are separate entries in phone book
  • Camera attachment shares phone’s digital memory

How We Tested Battery Talk/Standby Time

When reading our reviews, you should view the test results of mobile-phonebattery talk time and standby time as relative information only. Many variables, including carrier signal strength at your location, signal consistency(including incoming and outgoing calls), display and ringer settings, andbattery charging methods and history, will affect performance. When handsetmanufacturers and mobile phone carriers list talk-time and standby-time ratings, they usually include disclaimers about variable performance and often refer tothe times they publish as maximum times. Some quote expected battery liferanges, and in this case you're probably safe to assume you'll experience atleast the minimum rated range. Note that manufacturers of dual-mode digital andanalog handsets publish battery-life rates for both digital and analog modes, asanalog mode consumes much more power than digital mode.

Our Tests: We tested digital-mode talk and standby times with each phone.Prior to each test, we fully charged the phone's battery according to themanufacturer's directions. To test digital-phone talk time, we turned the phoneon, established a digital carrier signal, dialed a number in our test lab, and, when the call rang through, took the receiving phone's handset off the hook. When all went well, we didn't do anything else except record the time when thephone died. In a couple of cases, the phones lost the signal and dropped thecalls. If we were right there and could redial, we did so immediately andcontinued running the test. Otherwise, we halted the test, recharged thebattery, and started the test over. Assuming consistent carrier-signal strength, this test should represent best-case talk time. And it's worth noting thatseveral phones' talk-time performance significantly exceeded the manufacturers'ratings.

To test digital-phone standby time, we turned the phone on, established acarrier signal, and left the phone in standby mode. We checked the phone everyfew hours (for what was often days on end) until the phone finally cut out.Since no outgoing or incoming calls occurred during testing and because thephone was not moved, this method should represent best-case standby time, againassuming consistent carrier signal strength.

1-0 out of 5 stars Unreliable Suport
This is a great phone and PDA, until.... fails!, I enjoyed the P800 for 20 days, then, the touch screen stop working, on this device means all!, at the endonly the on/off button works, The vendor saids that they can't apply the warranty becouse they don't have phones, unless I acepted a motorola with price $100 lower! and i would lose the diference. and the service center that I have to pay if I want that they fix It! (Is still under warranty!!) anyway was impresive for the time it works, my recomendation, Check if the company were you purchase the phone is honest and have the capacity to cover the warranty. It's a great phone, shiny it don't last.. (oh and the online support never giveme a solution!)

3-0 out of 5 stars one gadget less in your pocket
I was an intensive palm user (Vx), and I never thought about upgrading until a phone+pda which really worked was done. I left myold Vx mate at home when they gave me a p800 at work.

Pros:
-it really does the job; even for a palm maniac the graffiti is a good aplication and the screen is smaller but it's all right
-if you have 1500 contacts with home, cell, work phone as I have, its ability to dial from any contact it is a huge advantage and time-saving feature! the same for knowing who's calling

Cons:
-battery
-coverage: it works definitlely worse than a high range cell phone, sometimes loses signal...
-in general, phone features

My opinion: the device is a much worse phone than I expected and a much better pda than I expected. If you are a user looking for multimedia, entertaiment features in a phone, the pros are not worth the cons: you have a bad phone that still doesn't meet the highest standards for games, music that you are expecting... If you want to take one device out of your jacket and use your new 2-in-1 it as a organicing advanced tool, it really gets the job done, even tought as a phone is not great. That's my case, so I will keep my p800 for a long time.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Multipurpose Phone
This Phone rocks!
It is a very good phone/PDA. Since it is Symbian OS, so no more "Microsoft Blue Death Screens". Being open source, and having the capability to program in C, and JAVA, this phone opens a new portal to mobile programming.

Advantages:
I'll leave that to any site that tries to sell this product.

Disadvantages:
1.Memory Stick Duo is relatively expensive, and small (128MB max)
2. Screen is only 4096 colours, so it may be a bit lousy when shooting pics. But with digital effects you can always adjust the picture to what you want.
3. Phone can't play MP3 ringtones. It only goes on WAV (Very large size), MIDI, OGG..and may be other formats but MP3 ringtones aren't supported.
4. MIDI table is kinda limited. If you have a rock midi it won't sound that nice on P800. But the MIDI table can always be changed with a better one, but on the expense of may be some delay in playing it.

4-0 out of 5 stars actually P800 is not too bad
I have been using this phone for almost a year and if ind it and excellent gadget.

SE P800 is, however, a challenge sometimes.
GUI could be improved to give bigger buttons when using touchscreen with fingers.Power saving mode could be improved.

I used it all over US, Germany and Russia.Works well. US mobile companies are way behind on SE pda phone product line. i don't know why. perhaps there's not a high enough demand in their estimations.

Sony are not making them any longer. It is time to upgrade to P910i. ... Read more

The outside cover of the handset sports a supplementary OEL (Organic Electro-Luminescent) 96 x 38 display that can display time, call information, battery and signal strength, and more. Most of the phone's features and on-screen menus are controlled by a five-way center button on the handset's blue backlit control pad. Meanwhile, the top right side of the unit houses an antenna while the USB-capable data and charging port is housed on the unit's bottom edge. The speed dialing feature allows you to dial up to 99 numbers virtually instantaneously. A built-in speakerphone makes it easy to talk without having the phone to your ear and the VX6000's GPS location technology pinpoints your exact location when you dial 911.

Messaging, Internet and Tools
The VX6000 is a messaging powerhouse with support for Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS), which allows you to send picture messages as easily as text and graphics. You can also personalize your handset with ringtone downloads and digital photo-sharing tools using the Get It Now service.

The VX6000 ships with a calendar and scheduler, a voice memo application with up to 4 minutes of record time, and a notepad. An alarm clock, calculator and world clock are also included, as is the very handy restaurant tip calculator. Never dine without it!

The camera can be set to one of three quality levels (low, medium, high) and there's also a shutter self timer. Built-in framing software lets you place one of five "fun frames" around your photos before you send them off to friends.

The fun doesn't stop with taking pictures. The VX6000 is also BREW enabled, meaning it supports games written on the BREW platform and many games are available via the Get It Now service. The phone also features customizable caller ID pictures and 7 built-in screen backgrounds so you can make your phone reflect your personality.

5-0 out of 5 stars LG VX 6000 star performer
Have owned this model over one year.
It is beautifully designed with TWO color displays...a large display when the phone is open and a narrow color display on over when clam shell top is closed.
All functions are intuitive and easy to learn....manuel is well written and easy to use.
Only limitation is that the number of voice activated numbers is too few...about nine...you should be able to buy this at a very favorable price as there is now a new version the VX6100.

2-0 out of 5 stars Wouldn't recommend
I have this LG phone for a year now, and I have a lot to say about it.

The Pros: Good reception. Easy to hold (not to small like some cell phones are) and has a little bit more weight to it (which I prefer).

The Cons: 2 phones later and they both have a short battery life. They both also shut off in the middleof a conversation ALL the time. The phone will power off for no apparent reason, and it will do so if you go to answer it and pick it up the wrong way. The battery doesn't seem to stay charged for as long as I'd like.

About the Camera: I think it's crap, but it's a cell phone, in my personal opinion, it's not meant to be taking award winning pictures. So neither a pro or a con, just what I'd expect from a camera on a cell phone.

Overall: For all the hassle I have with it shutting down all the time, I wouldn't recommend it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good phone, bad software
I just purchased this phone 8 days ago.The phone itself is great.I get a better signal with this phone than I did with my old LG VX10.I love the voice command and driving mode features--they allow me to talk on the phone without risking a car accident because I'm pressing buttons on the phone. The biggest downside is the software. As of the date of this review, the 6100 is on its second software version. However, one big problem remains in that version:the caller id feature does not work properly while roaming.Your phone may display "Call from: no ID" when receiving an incoming call. However, once you answer the phone, the caller ID information shows up.This only happens about 50% of the time: sometimes it works; sometimes it doesn't.I have been told by Verizon technicians that this problem will should be fixed soon in the next software release for the phone. I will be waiting for the new software to come out rather than exchanging the phone.

4-0 out of 5 stars Over all Im very happy with phone.
I have only had the phone a short time. I upgraded from a LG VX10 but over all Im very happy with the LG VX6000. The phone is simple to use and if you have used LG flip phones before then you want need the manual. I read that alot of people complain about the phones lights turning off while typing, well that aint so because as long as you are typing it keeps the lights on and you can set the inside lights for seconds to minutes to always on. The signal strentgh is good and I live in a mountains region and on a road where people loose reception the LG VX6000 all digital phone still had one bar on this road. Now another copol detail is if your phone keeps loosing reception in areas it will only search for towers every fifteen minutes wich is good to save battery. I had a phone that always searched and a full charge in that area would be dead by end of day without making any calls so I like that. The pictures are real nice and the phone come with some good ring tones but I use normal phone ring. The voice recognitionis awsome, I had a phone where you could only say one name like John but this one you can say John Doe and it repeats it back to you correctly.

Now down sides are that its all digital no analog but Im not complaining because I new this when I bought it but you might not. Also the outside display goes off to save battery but if you want to see the time then I just push the right side button to turn it back on but that is another non important down side. The lights on the numbers when the phone is opened are nice but not that bright and the end and send button are'nt very well lit, now that is a ligit gripe. The camera lens cant be covered and it has no flash but then again if your taking pics in the dark buy a real camera. Another grip I see is that it only holds 20 pics but theres ways around that and if you put more then 20 pics on in two or three days, buy a real camera. Over all this phone is great and Im happy with it so unlike the 6100 wich I had problems with a few days after getting it but then again might have been that one phone but if your looking at this phone then I dont believe you will be unhappy. If you want to see my thoughts and updates then check out my forum and under cell phone will be post from me and others as the forum grows so its at http://uceddiec.proboards24.com/
Also my main site is http://eddiethecomputerguy.blogspot.com/

4-0 out of 5 stars Sweet~^^
This phone is very good, except for the camera. The camera's gallery can only save up to 20 pictures. What's up with that ToT.The phone is pretty cool, and has o.k ring tones.I like the voice memos as well.I don't highly recommend this phone, especially if you like taking many pictures.Peace outie~........................^^ ... 84. PCS Phone Samsung VGA1000 (Sprint)
by Samsung
list price: $259.99
(price subject to change: see help)
Asin: B0000C1HLG
Catlog: Wireless
Manufacturer: Samsung
Sales Rank: 1559
Average Customer Review: 3.5 out of 5 stars
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France | Japan

Amazon.com Product Description

With an integrated camera, voice dialing, and dual color displays, the Samsung VGA1000 makes a great mobile companion. Other features, like support for Sprint's wireless Web services, as well as built-in games and ringtones, round out a strong package that is sure to please.

Design
The VGA1000's handsome clamshell form factor houses an internal 128 x 160, 65,000-color display. There's also a supplementary color display on the front panel of the device that displays call information, battery life, time of day, signal strength and more. An extendable antenna is located on the top right side of the phone, and the camera and flash unit are placed on the rear of the device. Meanwhile, most of the phone's features and on-screen menus are controlled by a five-way center button above the handset's dial pad. A 2.5mm headset jack is also provided.

Calling Features
The phone's built-in address book allows you to assign up to 300 entries, each storing six numbers, with a total capacity for 300 numbers and 300 email and Web addresses. You can customize your caller ID by linking a photo to a specific phone number in your contact list. In addition to a vibrate mode, the phone allows you to choose from a number of polyphonic ringtones that make your received calls all the more exciting. The VGA1000's GPS location technology pinpoints your exact location when you dial 911 (where available). Perhaps most importantly for users in rural areas, the VGA1000 is a tri-mode phone, meaning it can operate on Sprint's digital PCS network, as well as analog networks that serve many outlying areas.

Another key calling feature of the VGA1000 is its enhanced voice recognition capabilities. The system allows you to speak numbers digit by digit or speak the name of anyone in your phonebook. Voice features are speaker-independent, so there's no need to train the phone to respond to any one person's voice.

Messaging, Internet and Tools
If you need basic messaging capabilities, the VGA1000 has you covered as support is built-in for sending and receiving SMS text messages (Sprint PCS text messaging charges apply). T9 text entry, a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built-into the unit-- a plus for text messaging users.

The phone also supports PCS Vision email and instant messaging capabilities. Sprint PCS Vision transforms the wireless experience from something that's simply functional into something visual, entertaining and highly personalized. MSN Hotmail, Yahoo Mail and AOL Instant Messenger are all supported by Sprint's PCS Vision service. 3-0 out of 5 stars OK phone.Probably better off with something else
+ Reception is fine - bar meter acts almost exactly the same as my Hitachi P300 when tested in various areas.I don't think that there is as much noticable difference in reception between today's phones as some people would make you think.(Quality between providers is a whole other story.)

+ Talk quality - my earpiece is too loud. There are about 6 volume levels.I always keep mine on 1 and it is still commonly too loud.I am thinking of sticking something on the earpiece to dampen the volume. To comfortably have a conversation, you want to be able to put the earpiece right up to your ear without getting blasted. Also, you don't want everyone in the room to hear your conversation.

I have intermittent faint beeps in my earpiece while using the phone (also reported by many other users of this phone).

+ Picture quality - Usually not very good; finicky about lighting conditions and requires subject of photo to be perfectly still. Also, if you want to email photos or put them on your PC, you must pay $5/mo for Sprint's picture service -- you can not just pay per Kilobyte.Or, I read that you can get a third party software and connection cable (not so fun). But, this is true of all Sprint camera phones.

+ Battery life - fine; up to par.

+ Bugs - when you are in the menu or on the web, the phone randomly exits and goes back to the initial wallpaper/screensaver screen. This problem is also widely reported by other users.(Yes, I have the current software: WL15).Not much of a problem if you use the phone only for talking, but if you like to play with the Vision and whatnot, this would be annoying.

+ The phone has a nice quality feel.It is heavy and feels substantial - not plasticy or like a toy.The screen is beautiful (far more brilliant than my Hitachi P300 screen). The phone also looks nice and classy. However, it is bigger than many clamshells - it may be too big for some people.

+ I had to do it all over again, I would not get this phone. It is not that bad, but you can do better.I value talk quality and physical design most in a phone (not cameras, internet, bells, whistles etc). While not entirely fatal, the talk quality issues that this phone has (i.e. earpiece too loud and faint beeps) brings its score way down in my book.

At this point, this phone is old. There are alot more Sprint phones to choose from that are probably a smarter choice.

I might look into the Motorola v60v or LG vi125 down the road (A featureless clamshell with good talk quality).Word on the street is that the newer LGs for Sprint are way better than the older ones which had tons of problems.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not the best phone
Had this phone for about 15 months; just long enough for the warranty to expire. Both my wife and I own this phone and we have the same problems with it.The phone has developed a habit of shutting off at just about anytime. I replaced the battery, but still have the problem on both phones.Lots of dropped calls, basically just not happy at all with it.Should have went with what my friend got, he is very happy with his sanyo phone, it gets better reception and no dropped calls.Dont buy a samsung.

4-0 out of 5 stars great great phone
have had the cell for about 1.5 years now and its great. though not as small as my older one, none the less the more important issue is that it works flawlessly. havent had any issue's with the phone. the cam on the phone as well is great, phone book is nice and big, keeps 20 of that last calls made saved better then my last one which only held 10 in place. all in all, the only bad thing is sprint service but thats not the phones problem.

edit - one issue no sms, text messaging can get expensive but if you dont do text messagin then dont worry about it.

3-0 out of 5 stars It's alright.
Iv'e had this phone since its come out about 1.5 years. I replaced it once cause it just stopped charging, not cause of the battery was old, it just wouldnt wouldnt charge, now about 8 months of getting my replacement phone it's doing the same thing, I have to sit there and wiggle the charger just to get it charged, I want to go replace it again, but I have all my settings and downloads on it and I don't want to have to start over. It also doesn't have sms, you have to sign onto the web to text, which can be slow sometimes, and other times it totally doesn't even work. Other times my phone will just turn off by itself. The camera is alright, it's fun to have, but picture quality is bad, and the flash is useless cause it just washes the picture out completly. I like the size of it, not too big.

5-0 out of 5 stars WHY??
I THINK THAT THIS IS ONE OF SPRINT'S TOP OF THE LINE PHONES EVEN THOUGH IT IS NOT READY LINK!! I WAS LOOKING FOR ONE OF THESE AND WHEN I WENT TO SPRINT THEY TOLD ME THEY WERE DISCONTINUED!!I AM LOOKING FOR A PHONE LIKE THIS.IF ANYONE HAVE ONE AND WOULD LIKE TO SALE IT, PLEASE CONTACT ME.MY E-MAIL IS JOE14872002@HOTMAIL.COM OR JOE18872005@HOTMAIL.COM

4-0 out of 5 stars Would've given it a five, but...
I've had this phone for almost 4 months and I love almost everything about it. The only thing I don't like about it is when I talk to people, I can actually hear myself afterwards. People who have this phone might understand what I'm talking about. It's also hard to hear, too. But, I got this nice little blue headset and it makes things clearer. The phone is pretty good if you want to fork over about 50 bucks for a headset. Overall, it's a neat little phone. I don't understand why someone had a problem with the external camera button. The camera doesn't go off if the phone is closed inside your pocket. And the voice memo feature may not remind you when you open the phone, but if you use the text memo feature, it will ring and remind you on the exact time and date you set it to ring.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst piece of technology I've ever owned
The user interface of this phone is just awful.I can't believe how it is designed. Most features are completely non-intuitive. The first day I received the phone, I couldn't figure out how to get it to vibrate-mode.I looked in the manual and it referred me to page 29, but it turned out pages 28-32 were MISSING from the manual.I went on-line to find another manual, but page 29 had nothing relevant.I finally figured it out by accident.

Another example: I keep the phone in my pocket; every time I go to take a picture with the phone, it's memory is full.Of what?Of pictures of the inside of my pocket. The external buttons are constantly getting depressed in my pocket and I don't see any way to lock the buttons to prevent this.So I need a belt-mounted case I guess, but I hate things hanging from my belt.

Another example: there is a voice-memo feature which is GREAT to have. However, if you leave yourself a voice memo, you have to REMEMBER that you left yourself a voice memo: there is no indicator on the main panel to remind you.So it's a useless feature for me.

The voice dialing does not work at all; I did all the training and still it cannot find the simplest of names.I say "Ty" and it says, "did you say Bob?" I say "no" it says "did you say Rob?" I say "no" and it gives up.What a joke!I never use it.

Warning: you can take low-quality pix, which is great, but even with the low res, the camera is VERY slow, and you canNOT get
the pix off of the camera without paying Sprint for a special service to do so.And it ain't cheap. So I don't use the camera mostly because the pix have to stay on the camera (I refuse to pay the $5 to transfer them).

There are many many other useability problems... too many to list.

The biggest problem is that the phone book has a serious bug whereby it will crosslist numbers sometimes erasing other numbers.I have a phonebook now where if I change Andrew's work number to 123, it changes my wife's cell number to 123.If I erase one, it erases the other. Then I reenter the number and it changes Bob's home number to 123.It's crazy!I'm a computer science professor and the past owner of 4 diff cell phones... I know how to use technology. This product is simply awful.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great little phone, would definitely recommend
I personally love everything about this little phone. I was first attracted to it because of it's size and design. It is very small and can fit in the palm of your hand. I also wanted a phone with a camera, which this has, and a good one at that. I have had this phone for about 6 months now, and I am still finding things that I love about it. Everytime I think to myself... I wonder if my phone has this feature... it usually does! I love the voice dialing, the sound is wonderful. I can always hear my ringer, and you have the option of vibrate just in case. All in all, I would say that this is the best cell phone I have ever owned.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Price Good Phone
Ive had this phone for over 4 months now and have been nothing but delighted with this phone. Good battery life, good sound, the ringers are loud. If you are out in the market for a good quality phone for a decent price you should really take a look at this phone. Its easy to use and the camera and video is so easy a kid can use it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Feature-rich but poor audio
Yes, this phone is good in almost everyway except the main thing I bought it for: talking/listening.The speaker sounds distorted and muffled -- much worse than my 3-year-old LG 5250.I'm considering returning or exchanging the VM-A680. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Just looking for an upgrade
When i first bought this phone 2 years ago, i fell in love! It has a camera w/ a flash, and took better pictures than most of the other phones out there at the time.

The phone is durable and came with two batteries, one extended. Like i said, i have had this phone for 2+ years and its not falling apart! I have had no dropped calls, but the internet speed is kinda slow for my liking. The only real problem i have with the phone is that its not SMS compatible. I can not receive texts directly to the phone, but need to log onto through the internet to read and send (short mail) messages.I wouldnt recommend this phone if you are looking for text messaging battles with your friends. Lots of times the network would have problems, and you wouldnt be able to send and receive.Of course, that is Sprint's fault and not the phone itself!

Other than that, Sprint is a reliable wireless provider, and whenever i do have a problem, they are always patient with me!

2-0 out of 5 stars Bad hinge
The flip phone hinges froze up and then one side at a time broke the plastic case and came apart until it broke the display cable. Takes the special y driver to replace the case and I can't find a Cell Phone store to replace the case.
Also the data cable/charging port failed.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best out of me cellphone history
When I was a Sprint customer, I was very satisfied with everything this phone had to offer. The phone always kept a decent singal, and the extended battery actually had an extented life unlike others from different manufacturers. After 6 months, I lost it in a shopping mall.Fortunately, I had insurance and Sprint replaced it with a Sanyo 5500.Yeah the 5500 was blue, Readly Link enabled, and had a video camera, but it gave me a whole lot of drama along with Sprint's terrible customer service, which resulted into me cancelling my contract. It is a shame Sprint discontinued this model as opposed to the Sanyp 8100.For those who already have or intend on purchasing this phone, use it until it cannot be use anymore before upgrading to a new model.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is one great phone
I had been an ATT customer for years, but after the last few months of lousy service in my area I began shopping for a new provider. At first I was reluctant to switch from my beloved Motorola phones, but after using the Sanyo 5300 for a few weeks now I am very impressed with what Sanyo has done with this phone.I also have to qualify these next remarks because I understand that cell phone carriers vary in reliability throughout the country, but here in Central Iowa I have had better coverage with Sprint and this phone than with any other phone.I travel to lots of rural and remote areas in the state, and so far I have not lost a signal anywhere-even in areas that my old phone/carrier combination would drop.

1-0 out of 5 stars where is the beef?
The phone WOULD be the ideal dream... ideal if it worked. I get horrid reception and phone cuts off half way through calls... and forget it working indoors anywhere! If that wasn't all.. the camera takes weak pics and the flash is of no use. I have tried to manually operate the camera for what the automatic selection lacks... either way i get pics that are too white or way too fuzzy. I've decided to return it for a cheaper model with less problems... ... Read more

Sporting a large, 4,096-color display screen and an unconventional, rotary-style keypad, we found the sturdy, feature-rich Nokia 3650 cell phone one of the best designed phones on the market, with excellent ease-of-use, crystal-clear reception, and a camera, video camera, and Internet access.

Take and share pictures with the 3650.
(See detail)
In our tests, we found that the comfortable rounded base of this 5-inch phone rested easily our palm, and the clever retro button display took only a moment of getting used to. The buttons and disc navigation felt quite durable, with a nice, solid action. Menu navigation involves two thin buttons on the top left and right that allowed us to move in and out of menus; then the standard 4-point clickable disc provided more detailed selection. There's a separate button for the main menu prominently below the disc, and the faux-rotary layout of the number buttons helped keep the navigation buttons out of the way during dialing. The requisite call and hang-up buttons are intuitively marked, and a futuristic-looking blue light shines through the numbers on all the buttons for easy keying in low-light areas.

The 3560 delivered consistent, excellent reception in a variety of testing environments, including a basement-level room that typically causes trouble with similar phones. The default ring tones were a bit too gentle for their own good; they were hard to hear in busy outdoor environments. The tones that we created using the composing feature, however, were quite audible, even in the midst of lots of noise. The vibrate alert was also quite effective and hard to miss. Nokia has also preloaded a variety of other polyphonic ring tones for alternate use, as well as a voice-dialing feature, which stores 25 numbers and was easy to use.

In Calendar, you can keep track of your appointments, meetings, birthdays, anniversaries, and other events. You can also set a calendar alarm to remind you of upcoming events.
(See detail)
With the video recorder you can record video clips, and play video clips stored on your phone or on a memory card. Also, the video recorder is integrated with the messaging features allowing you to easily send created clips.
(See detail)
Nokia 3650 provides various functions, in an-easy-to use interface, such as Camera, Video recorder, Messaging, e-mail, Clock, alarm clock, Calculator, and Calendar.
(See detail)

Thanks to high-speed GPRS connection, users can access a variety of Web content, such as news, travel information, and entertainment specifically designed for mobile phones via an XHTML browser, which supports pages written in both HTML and WML (Wireless Markup Language). The 3650's calendar, phone book, and to-do list can all be synchronized with a PC using Nokia 3650 PC Suite software. This phone also supports Java for downloading business applications, and built-in Bluetooth and infrared connections empower users to send photos and text in either e-mail or MMS format to a PC or to another compatible wireless device. Some of the downloadable Java and Symbian applications provided by Nokia through their website include Merriam-Webster Word Search, and games like Racing Fever, Avant Go, and Terminator.

The phone's digital VGA camera is cleverly built in to the back of phone, and can store up to 1,000 photos at 640 x 480 megapixel resolution on its (upgradeable) 16 MB memory card. Also, the Nokia 3650's photo capability is immediately accessible from the top-level display menu, so unlike other phones it was easy to snap a photo at a moment's notice. The camera records images in standard, portrait, and a nighttime mode.

With the same basic set of controls, RealOne software lets the video recording function capture short, low-fidelity sound and video clips for immediate MP4 video playback on the generous screen or for sending to another Web-enabled user. The 15-frames-per-second video recording rate delivers stuttering, delayed images that look sort of like Neil Armstrong's transmissions from the Moon. We found this all very entertaining, and potentially useful for transmitting small bits of information, but hard to take seriously as a true video recording device.

Among the scores of additional features on this phone are text messaging templates, where you create a basic message (like "Let's eat at --- ") then fill in the blank as you wish; a foreign currency and units converter for the jet set crowd, and a "favorites" folder to store Web shortcuts and links. For hearing-impaired customers, Nokia even provides TTY/TDD (Telecommunication Device for the Deaf) compatibility. The headset included with this phone is functional, and Li-Ion battery comes rated for up to 4 hours of digital talk and 200 hours of digital standby time. The phone comes with a refreshingly well-written manual. While decorative faceplates and other accessories are available, we found that even without them, the Nokia 3650 is one of the most coolest phones we've ever laid our hands on. --Erik Hammen

Pros:

  • Great reception
  • Excellent, intuitive user interface
  • Feature-rich
  • Solid build and large display screen
  • Fun camera and video features

Cons:

  • Large phone size to accommodate large display screen
  • Default ring tones a bit quiet.

4-0 out of 5 stars I had this phone for 2 years and loved it!
This phone is a little clunky, but wonderful! The symbian operating system makes this phone infinitely expandable. Some of the programs you can download and install include: eBook readers (to download and read books from the New York Public Library, for instance), remote control software (to control your TV through infrared or your computer through bluetooth), game emulators (I had hours of fun playing games with a game boy emulator).

The operating system supports multitasking, so you can switch back between a phone call and an ebook without ever quitting either program... so you can turn the speakerphone on, and play a game while you're on hold. I grew to like the circular orientation of the number pad... while confusing at first, it made sense after a while.

Also, since the phone's PIM synced up with my Mac (via iSync), I never had to type a phone number or email address into the phone, which made for speedy usage.

The more advanced nature of the phone's operating system makes it prones to crashing. If a program isn't coded correctly or it crashes, this phone is prone to go into a "reboot loop", where the phone can't start anymore, and the only remedy is to take it back to T-Mobile or Nokia through the warranty. Meaning, if a program crashes your phone (which happened 3 times over 2 years to me), you have to get the phone replaced. Not good. So make sure you have a carrier with EXCELLENT customer service (like T-Mobile, as opposed to Cingular or Sprint).

Overall, I loved the phone, and the benefits far outweighed the costs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bluetooth works great

5-0 out of 5 stars Sounds Great, Looks Great, Easy to Use
Even a technologically unsavvy person like myself finds it easy to use the dozens of features on this phone. The speaker phone is very convenient; every person who calls can be assigned their own unique musical ringer; and little things like the calculator and the alarm clock can really come in handy.Sprint PCS has by far the clearest reception of any cell phone network.I have never had a problem hearing people even when I have called from the remotest of places in out-of-the-way corners of the country. My wife and I bought the red and green models six months ago, and we have not had a single complaint about the phones or the service.I was a little skeptical at first about spending so much money on a phone, but the clear reception and numerous easy-to-use features make this product well worth it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Impressed!
I am impressed. I yet have tacked down every usable feature.
I know that the hinges are not SO STRONG.But the overall con-
cept a cell phone with a camera and a speaker. Plus able to
get information on the world wide web. I can attest to that.
That getting info.. on the internet can be achieved using
the sanyo 8200.

5-0 out of 5 stars MY FAMILY LOVES THIS PHONE-ALL 3 COLORS!
I switched my two Sanyo 8100 model cell phones AFTER TWO YEARS WITH NO PROBLEMS for the newer up-graded 8200 and although we loved the 8100's, the 8200's are even better with a speaker phone, more better, faster everything it seems and the all new colors! From what I have seen in just a few days of use, the 8200 stands up to all the claims made by Sprint and Sanyo.
GREAT PHONE!

4-0 out of 5 stars COOL PHONE,GAY COLOR
I bought this phone 5 months ago. It has alot
of great features, and I like everything about
it, exept the color. It's more of a pinkish red,
than a cherry red. So if you're a guy like me, do
yourself a favor, buy a different color!

Amazon.com Review

The tri-band Motorola V600 cell phone features Bluetooth connectivity, an integrated VGA digital camera, and MMS with video clip playback. You'll also get "Situational Lights"--a feature that lets you light colors for various types of calls--and much more, all displayed on a large, high-resolution 176 x 220 pixels, 65,000 color interior screen.

The basic Motorola clamshell format continues to provide a solid and attractive option for any dedicated cell phone user. Its steel frame is compact and attractive, (the faceplate-changing capabilities seem a bit unnecessary) and it's loaded with all the essential features you'll need for power usage plus a few bonuses. You may find the volume a bit high out of the box, and it goes into hibernate almost as fast as you can dial a number, but these are minor, adjustable quibbles on a truly stellar phone.

Calling Features

See a detailed view of the phone's features,
front and back.

Used simply as a cell phone, the V600 features a five-way navigation key with multiple dedicated function keys for easy menu navigation. Primary calling features include voice dialing, integrated speakerphone, vibrate mode, call timers, redial, missed call indicator, call log, any-key answer, auto-answer, auto-redial, roaming indicator, speed dial, linked (credit card) dialing, phonebook look-up, phonebook scroll, mute control, no-answer transfer, one-touch 911, system select, usage alert, and a phone book of up to 1250 entries, including picture caller ID functionality. When the phone is closed, its external screen (two lines, 96 x 32 pixelss) displays caller ID, date, time, and various status icons, including text message waiting, voice message waiting, battery and signal strength, and voice and message mail. There's even a blue backlight on the secondary display for nighttime viewing.

The V600 sports well-placed, well-machined keys, and its compact size does nothing to hinder dialing even for large-fingered users. The solid scroll keys bring you to very intuitive menus presented nicely on a single screen, marked by functional but showier-than-necessary graphics. There are also dedicated external buttons for speaker volume, voice recording, and ring volume.

Messaging and Internet
The advanced MMS capabilities built in to the V600 enable users to send, edit, forward, and receive image, text, audio, and video messages over the wireless Internet, to and from compatible phones or PCs. (Messages can run up to 100k in size.) You'll also get instant messaging capability, messaging templates, SMS two-way messaging, conventional email, and predictive text assistance. Beyond messaging, the V600's Internet connectivity lets you access online services such as stock quotes, road directions, airline information, entertainment, and more. You can also download Java applications (version CLDC 1.0, MIDP 2.0, 100k per application limit) for which the phone provides 5 MB total (shared) memory. High-speed data transfer and download round out the package. The V600 supports digital TTY/TDD functionality for the hearing impaired.

Organizer
Organizer features include a calendar, calculator with currency converter, date book with event storage, and voice memo. You can also transfer this data to your PC wirelessly via the phone's Bluetooth capability.

We found the V600's appointment scheduling to be right in line with our fairly basic needs. Other than the universal annoyance of pecking out appointment details with the ten-key letter system (there's no QWERTY keyboard here as you'll find on some of the more recent, albeit early-adopter phones) this phone's organizer features provided enough data entry space for any busy person taking these functions seriously, but no more.

Fun and Games
For fun, the V600 sports a built-in 640 x 480 pixels integrated digital camera with zoom and brightness adjustment functions. Pictures taken with the camera can be stored in the phone or sent to others via multimedia messaging. The 5 MB of memory available for storing pictures is also shared with whatever wallpapers, screensavers, ring tones, Java applications, or games you may download from the Internet. The V600 also features 24 chord ring tone capability. Users can assign different tones for different callers in the V600's phonebook, and assign separate tones to denote incoming messages, faxes, and reminders. Wireless multiplayer gaming capabilities and two included games, "Bejeweled" and "Stuntman", round out the entertainment perks that ship with this phone.

Conclusions
We liked this phone's very basic camera. It was easy to use and worry-free and the device can be accessed instantly from the phone's top level screen menu. From power on, it only took us a moment to take and save a fairly nice picture. However, photo quality is only adequate; about as good as you'd expect for a cell phone circa 2004, as opposed to a dedicated digital camera. We also found the ring tones included with the phone to be generally pleasant, and it was a breeze to assign a custom tone to a number in the phonebook, thanks again to the easy menu system. The included games were basic and fairly fun (at least once). In "Stuntman", the phone's vibrate mode provided road rumble as a little car skidded around a bland, full-color stunt course. But player beware! Once the game starts, the volume becomes LOUD and is not apparently adjustable. Finally, there is a nutty little feature called Motomixer, which lets you modify various settings on little songs that you can download, emulating a very rudimentary, miniature studio console.

In all, we found the Motorola V600 to be a rock solid, highly effective cell phone with attractive and efficient graphic and audio capabilities. We recommend the V600 without reservations for any serious user.

Vital Statistics
The Motorola V600's security features include call restrictions, phone lock, and new password capability. The phone weighs 4.4 ounces and measures 3.5 x 1.87 x 0.83 inches. Its lithium-ion batteries are rated at up to 450 minutes talk time, and up to 240 hours standby time. It runs on the GSM/GPRS 900/1800/1900 frequencies. In the box, you'll receive the V600, instruction manuals, a high capacity li-ion battery, a headset/earbud, and a battery charger. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars i want to know how to use the speaker phone capability
hi,well maybe this review is not that helpfull, but all i want to know is how to use the speakerphone when the phone is closed, so if yo could please tell me how, i would very much appreciate it. Please help me with this, please.

1-0 out of 5 stars DON'T Buy it!
H.J Spivack's review (12/17/04) is dead-on!I have experienced the same issues and frustration with Cingular & this phone. My advice, get a different phone & service. Received the first phone in June 2004 and now in May 2005, I am on the fifth phone. Each time a problem has come up (buttons didn't work, display stops working, phone answered the call on its own (while sitting on the desktop), etc.), the service has been tremendously awful (1 hr on the phone) and my only viable option is to receive another refurbished phone. The company tells me the replacements are "reconditioned" and suggested I contact Motorolla.Even after clearly articulating I was dissatified with the quality of the phone and service, my request for a refund and/or different phone at their cost was denied. This company is not customer friendly or interested in maintaining any level of customer service or satisfaction.Add to that poor phone performance and it is a lose-lose scenario.

2-0 out of 5 stars Don't bother wasting your money...
Now I'm not going to bash this phone. I'm going to give you my honest opinion. Dont get this phone.

Now I dont own it, but my friend does and let me tell you, it's not all it's cracked up to be. Sure, it looks luxerious and beautiful on the outside, but dont let the sleek looks fool you.

The camera quality leaves much to be desired, it takes very low quality pictures, and you dont have the option of caller ID.. and that's the main reason I'd buy a camera phone.. so I could literally see who's calling. Most ringtones sound horrible and washed out when you purchase them. The outer cover of the phone may look nice, but over time it wears down, tiny pieces of plastic fleck off, etc. The browser is old, the download times are much slower than most of today's phones, and it locks up and glitches up all the time. The phone is out of date. When Cingular put it on the market they took it off shortly after.. because it was a dud.

2-0 out of 5 stars Samsung
This phone is good and bad. I really wished it had Picture Caller ID. Also, after dropping it once, it all started falling apart. The volume adjust arrows don't work, my antenna is chipping away. The games on it are horrible unless you're into flying a spaceship around tying to kill little alien ships. Then you can't even download any games to it. I recommend to not get this phone. I had the X427 before this and it was not that great either. Battery life does not last. I have had the phone for about 5 months and I am on my 3rd battery. The phone often freezes and I sometimes have to end a call by removing the battery. The only good thing is the camera but if this phone had picture caller ID, that would be a great feature. My next phone will not be made by Samsung, I am sure of that.

4-0 out of 5 stars Cute little phone with little customization
I've had this phone for almost 8 months now. This phone has been pretty good to me. I love the bright little flashing service light. It's bright and cute and you can change it to any color you want. The screen is very bright too, enough to use as an emergency flashlight so you won't stub your toe in the dark.

Since I've had this phone I haven't really had a problem with reception, I've always managed to get good reception with this phone. I even got service where I never used to get service with my previous phones.

You can have groups and customize ringtones for each group but not for each particular contact. I also wish it had a feature to place a photo when a caller is calling you considering it's a camera phone but I have yet to figure out this feature, or if one even exists.

I've dropped my phone once, on concret might I add and it's held up alright. It has a few minor scratches on the face but other than that it's fine. I love this phone, but I'm getting sick of it. It gets old fast.

It only has two games and they're both games that have to do with an airplane which you would think is the same exact game but with minor adjustments.

If you want a phone with a lot to do, this isn't for you.

But if you want a simply phone that's compact and great for calls , it's all yours.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great phone
This phone is a replacement for my nokia brand which I have had three. The Samsumg phone is great looking, has exceptional outside display, good sound quality, colorful and easy to use menus and numerous options including a simple to use camera. The only downside to this phone is the short battery life.Otherwise I love this phone and would recommend it to everyone and anyone.Cingular has terrific service towers and I never drop a call. ... With a built-in VGA camera, multimedia messaging, downloadable games, a speakerphone, and support for Nextel's legendary Direct Connect walkie-talkie service, this phone is all about lots of fun and plenty of functionality.

Design
The i275's candybar form factor sports a large, 128 x 128 TFT color display with 65,000 colors. The speakerphone unit is located on the rear of the phone, as is the VGA (640 x 480) camera unit. Meanwhile, the trademark Direct Connect and menu scrolling functions can be controlled from the side of the phone. The phone's control pad also features a five-way button that can control most of the phone's functions. There's also a 2.5-millimeter headset jack for connecting a hands-free headset.

Calling Features
The i275's built-in address book can store up to 600 contacts for quick and easy management of phone numbers and email addresses. The phone comes with built-in polyphonic ringtones plus a vibrating alert. More polyphonic ringtones can be added via download from the Nextel Online service. Voice activated dialing makes calling your friends, family and associates as easy as saying their names, while a built-in speakerphone makes it easy to talk without having the phone to your ear. And if you have an emergency, the i275's GPS location technology pinpoints your exact location when you dial 911.

One of the key features of any Nextel phone is support for Nextel's Direct Connect walkie-talkie technology. The i275 fully supports the service, which allows for one-touch conversations with anyone else on a Nextel phone, or with entire groups of Direct Connect users. It's like a having a CB radio with enough range to cover all of North America, Canada and Latin America. With the i275's powerful Direct Talk function you can also communicate in walkie-talkie mode when you're not even connected to the network. The system works anywhere, anytime between compatible phones within a range of up to 6 miles (range will vary based on terrain and conditions). Direct Talk provides a reliable back-up communications tool in times of emergency, network outage, or when traveling to remote areas not under Nextel coverage such as hiking, cruise vacations or inside buildings. And last but not least, the i275 features a walkie-talkie private speaker button. This switches from the external speaker to the earpiece for private conversations or to minimize disruptions in quiet environments.

Messaging, Internet and Tools
The i275 features MMS-based support for mobile-to-mobile or mobile-to-email text, images and audio messaging. When used with the phone's built-in camera, MMS messaging opens up a whole new world of messaging fun. T9 text entry, which is a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit-- a plus for mobile email and text messaging users. Getting on the Internet anywhere is easy with the i275, as well. Nextel's optional Nextel Online package allows you to read and send e-mails, exchange instant messages and view your favorite web content on your phone. Nextel Online also features games, ringtones, realtime news and sports updates, virtual address books, and more-- all delivered to your Nextel phone. Also, because the i725 is GPS-enabled, you can use Nextel's location-based safety services like Mobile Locator, which allows you to locate a friend or family member's phone location at anytime, right from your computer. And finally, the i275 ships with a calendar, as well as a time and date clock.
